Could a hardcore timing guy give me some pro's of using the timing feature? I have been zone for a while and am currently trying ZPA at the moment. It should be known i'm not ripping timing hitting just being open minded with it all.

Timing is an overwhelming winner (and my choice as well). Why isn't it available for online games?

Pure Analog for me. timing is so easy it feels like cheating.

This is my first year ever playing The Show. I consider myself to a pretty quick learner when it comes to video games. I love everything about this game. With all that said I cannot hit for anything after 2 days. I started out with the default Pure Zone or whatever it's called. Struggled mightily with that. Bumped it all the way down to Timing/Rookie and still can't do a whole lot. My RTTS RFer is hitting .215 after 150 ABs or so.

I can't even imagine what it must be like to play the MLB The SHow series for the first time with this game (MLB 12 The Show). It must be confusing as all hell. When EA lost the ability to make MLB games back in 2005 I had no choice but to give Sony's MLB series a shot. Learning the game back then was a pretty confusing experience, and that was back when the games were a lot more simple than they are now.

I use Zone with the PCI on. The reason I like Zone is because it is pretty difficult just like real life, but at the same time not too hard or impossible. It gives me realistic results. The thing I stress about the batting in this Baseball series is that it is really all about timing and patience. To be successful with hitting you need to get the timing right, and have the patience to wait for the pitch you're looking for. It hardly ever fails me, if I have patience and look for that one pitch, I will nail it. If it isn't that pitch that I'm looking for then I will ignore it, even if it is in the strike zone. Otherwise I will end up getting out 7 times out of 10. I had to teach myself that patience is so important that it is OK to strike out looking every once in a while.

Been playing like this since MLB 06 The Show on the PS2.

Thanks for the advice. That is definitely my problem. I swing way too early and way too often.

What would you suggest as far as guessing pitches?

What I do is study the pitchers pitch selection, and try to find their pattern. I may be wrong but I notice that if one strategy works for the CPU then they will repeat it trying to get it to work again. So I try to take advantage of this. For example if I keep swinging and missing at pitches low and out of the zone then they will just keep throwing it down there. I think this works the same for all other pitches.

There is no better feeling than when you just sense and feel that the pitcher is going to throw low and inside so you're anticipating it and then bam, he does and you nail it. When you do this with guess pitch off it feels pretty rewarding.

I use pure analog. Am i great at it? No but mvp 06 got me used to the Swing Stick. I have found that if you wait until he shows the ball to pull back it gives you a chance to get a full stride while allowing long enough to decide the type of pitch. I strike out according to my vision for that game. Sometimes i can read the pitches perfectly and other games i am striking out like 15 times. I will be using pure analog for this game and hopefully i will improve.

Why do so many people use timing? Is it easier? I would think zone or analog with zone would be more realistic. Puts pretty much all the control in the players hands.

For a couple reasons. First, it's too difficult for most to move the PCI and swing in the split second you have. Timing is a good compromise. It combines the ability to control the swing and timing, while allowing the game and ratings to control the PCI.

That's exactly why I like Zone, because I feel like I have more control. But this more control is what also makes it harder. In real life, the bat doesn't magically connect to the ball. The hitter has to time his swing AND aim it.

Took your advice and tried Zone. I had much better results. I scored 7 runs in my first game with 3 homers.

My problem with analog hitting is that it's never felt realistic to me. For example the right stick should be the back and say the left stick are your feet. (kinda like how EA NHL, right stick is stick and left stick is skates) You don't stride with your hands. I think it would make more sense to stride with the left stick and swing+aim with the right stick. Not really sure how you could make it work lol, think that's the reason it just doesn't feel as fluid to me. Idk just my thoughts. I currently use the timing option right now.
