    .

is this true? I'm new to the show and can't seem to fix the fact that the AI pitchers just pound the strike zone in my RTTS. I was wondering if it was maybe because my SS has such low ratings, that they are pitching to me like a non-threat and just want to pitch to contact.

In baseball games I love to be a patient hitter and work the count, but I gave up on that after I realized it was just pointless...might as well swing at that fastball in the zone on pitch 1 or 2. the sliders weren't working, maybe I need to up it to allstar instead and they will throw more balls?

Im having no problems with walks on vetran timed hitting pichers don't go agianst me in the strike zone probley becouse they fear my hitter. my contact stats are 91 righty 87 lefty. power is 87-92 so if they do come in the strike zone i make them pay. i get normally 1 walk per game in my rtts games. i use defalt sliders except contact -2 power-2 and solid hits-3 everything else seems fine.

ps: sorry for the spelling just trying to type fast.

oh the minusses from defalt slider position.

I play on veteran, timed and draw walks at a nice rate. I also play with guess pitch and don't swing on the first 2 strikes unless they are in my zone. I find that helps get me more solid contact (obviously), walk and strike out more. The only slider adjustment I have made is OF speed down 2. Like I said in another thread, I am in love!

Timing on all star is amazing frustrating. You get a hit, double play the next batter. You hit hard liners, defenders always right there. Perfect timing on a fastball? Well tough ****, you swung under it? Hanging curveball? Might as well get you to hit a grounder to first. Such crap.

You can also bump up your solid hits slider and or power slider. That helps as well. There isn't one thing in particular, to answer the OP. There are lots of other factors to consider as well. I would always recommend tweaking sliders before any massive whole sale changes. I am a timing guy, to and thus far I've only dropped pitch speed to 4, and lowered fielder speed to 4 as well, and that is giving me more hit variety and more balls have eyes and are dropping in for hits. So my suggestion to the OP would be to play with the sliders first.

Excellent post. Once you get the setting to play to your liking there's nothing better than Timed hitting for me. Makes pulling/replacing cold players and giving players rest that more important. I want them to matter, not my "skilz"

                  Amen!

I must say i did tweak a few sliders too... it was too hard to get a decent team avr with defualt...now i raised solid hits and timing window a bit and im hittin .268 with the A`s as a team, with Weeks leading the team at .311, pretty realisitc if u ask me.

Yeah, looks like it's back to the drawing board for me. Just got two three hit complete game shut outs thrown against me. Multiple times I had "wheelhouse" contact and "perfect" timing. I'm definitely going to have to play with the sliders a lot tonight.

I tested this last year pretty extensively, and on veteran it was impossible to get the AI to throw less than 70% of their pitches in the zone. In real life the MLB average is roughly 60%. On all star it was much more realistic, and I could get it so it was usually around 65%.

This year that doesn't seem to have changed. When I went from veteran back to all star it was very noticeable right away.

Definitely something this game needs work on, having AI pitchers labor more, and issue more walks more easily. That, along with getting AI hitters to chase pitches outside the zone in a realistic manner.

Like I said above I really think power is key this year, maybe due to the new ball physics, I don't know. But I've been playing as the Tigers and squared some pitches up with good to perfect timing with Cabrera and Fielder, only to result in pretty weak hits.

And yes I fully understand that using timing leaves much of the result up to a hitter's stats, but it definitely seems off with the set up I'm using (timing, guess pitch off) even when taking that into consideration.

With power raised it makes it less necessary to square a pitch up to really drive it, and so the results tend to be a little more realistic.

But as N51_rob said, it really isn't one thing in particular. It's more a matter of getting a feel for what the sliders do, and tweaking them to suit your difficulty level and settings set up.

What are u using for power? im currently at +1, so far so good, would like a bit more extra base hits, but im affraid the HR would become cheap.

I was wondering if anybody has tried zone hitting but not moving the PCI at all. I was frustrated with the fact when using timing hitting, too often after waiting for my pitch and timing it perfectly, I couldn't make good contact, even with the sliders raised a bit. I tried switching to zone hitting without moving the PCI and I found I'm having much better luck - as long as I wait for my pitch. This way it's very similar to timing hitting...

Currently have everything maxed out in my favor, including power and even the CPU pitching sliders.

It's resulting in some cheap HRs, and feels easy, but it's not that over the top. I think there's definitely a balance point to be had on all star difficulty, and it's just a matter of finding it.

Well if you figure something out, definitely let us all know. It's getting kind of absurd with the shutouts and 2 hitters every game. I want a true to life feel to the games. But like you mentioned, I also want to avoid cheap home runs/hits.
