just had 11 hits with the R2/right analog stick tip...wow. Didn't hurt that CJ Wilson threw a no hitter until 2 outs in the 8th. (TNK sliders)

Not really relevant to the R2 thing, but I also had a game where I was losing until the 8th. Down by 7 and suddenly a single a walk, a sacrifice, another single, and a home run and I'm back in the game. With 2 runs in the 9th, and 1 run in the 14th, I finished a pretty insane comeback.

My bad...I was winning in the 8th as the Angels & CJ Wilson was throwing a no-no...Ended up winning just 4-0 but hit much better. He gave up 1 hit.

Yeah it sucks, makes the game painful.....I hit everything right on the nose, driving it hard. The problem is it is always at somebody. Infield, outfield, it is like there are 30 guys on defense. And this is on Rookie difficulty. Its like the game hates me all of a sudden.

Any tricks to alleviate this? It is impossible to meet achievement goals like collecting 36 bases & getting 12 RBIs when I can't hit to get on base. I'm still puzzled why they have me hitting lead off with a .078 avg.
All I gotta say is WOW, this game is streaky. After my abysmal hitting described above, I just entered a new month and now everything I hit is finding open space. I'm hitting .720 in my last 10 games. The weird thing is I am doing absolutely NOTHING different than I was before. So I guess my previous post is now mute.

              Man, what a game...........

I'm getting very frustrated with hitting. Analog is too hard, timing just seems too random and I hit everything at a fielder.

I think I need a break.. been playing 3-4 games a night. I've moved down to lower difficulty, etc.. meanwhile, teams I play don't hit until about the 4th inning, then the floodgates open.

What are your sliders looking like? Do you use guess pitch with timing? What does your bb/so look like?

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

These tips have helped me, though my patience/pitch recognition is terrible. I am actually doing pretty good in my RttS but have been unable to draw a single walk.

Through 17 Games(All-Star Default Sliders, Guess Pitch Off)
                    75 AB(31 Hits, 5 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 13 RBI)
                    .413 Average, .600 Slugging, 1.013 OPS
                    10 Strikeouts, 0 walks

I just always either read a pitch wrong or I take a great pitch to hit for a first strike then frustrated I swing at a terrible pitch.

Guess I just have to hope to get better in time.

I'll start messing with those tonight. I've never used guess pitch or zone. I walk maybe 1-2 times a game.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

I've bought the last couple of versions and have always given up in frustration with hitting.

Now, I'll freely admit that I'm not great at video games, and my baseball knowledge (in regards to what pitches to expect etc.) is lacking. It also doesn't help that I am the biggest sore loser in the history of all things.

This year though I decided to give it one final crack of the whip before I settled on MLB 2k again.

Giants @ Marlins. Rookie everything with Pitch Speed down to zilch.

I never guess pitch after reading a tip on this forum but I just couldn't read balls or strikes, invariably leading to me swinging away at everything. After 4 innings of play I hadn't registered a hit or even had more than 1 ball per at-bat. I struck out two or three times.

I then did something I never normally do...I turned the strike zone off. For the rest of the game I scored twice on 6 hits and struck out once (still didn't get any walks though) and could've had one more run if I didn't botch my baserunning by pressing the wrong button. I still lost, 3-2, but I didn't rage-quit and here's my reason why (imo of course).

With the strike zone in place, it is too absolute, you can see exactly where the strike zone is and when a 50-50 call goes against me, I get upset making me swing away the next ball and end up frustrated.

The other problem with the strike zone is you can temporarily lose the ball when it goes behind the strike zone "lines" if you understand what I mean. Without the strike zone in place you can see the ball totally uninterrupted and you don't feel too frustrated when you leave a 50-50 ball.

Of course, patience is still key, there is no denying that, but removing the strike zone seems to have been key for me so far *fingers crossed*. Compared to the rest of you I'm the worst player to ever play this game and this tip may be useless to most of you, but I figured I would share it in case someone else gets the same success as me.

R2 and up on the Right Analog. Find your pitch elevated and swing away boys. doubles and homers came immediately for me when I discovered it.

This is precisely the main reason I have always turned off any and all visual indicators. It can definitely be a distraction.

IMO yes a little bit, you don't get really deep into pitchers pitch counts, or see their "pitching pattern". I was hitting .177 in the spring. Not that I am hitting much better once I got into the season, but I am hitting .225 right now.
