Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

My newest tip if you're using TIMING : use your regular controller like "move" controller. Get your arms up like your holding a bat, step, load and swing an imaginary bat holding your controller with both hands. Press the button to hit the ball with the appropriate timing has your hands come forward. This technique has helped me get BB's and more hits per game (plus give my upper body a baby workout)

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

As odd as it sounds, one thing that has made a difference to me is turning up the difficulty level. On All-Star, I was hacking because everything was a strike. Too often, on the black. But I saw a suggestion to try Hall of Fame. Now, it may very well be a placebo, but it seems to be a lot different because the CPU will actually throw me balls instead of strike after strike after strike. I am still struggling because I am trying to get rid of some bad habits picked up while playing on All-Star. For example, since switching, I've had a lot of bad swings on bad pitches on 2-0, 3-1 counts because I have it in my kitchen that it's almost guaranteed to be a strike.

Practice Mode "Good At Bat" gets me ready to face franchise...

You can get your camera / sliders / timing and "eye" tuned without the frustration of tanking in a game...

You'll also see that things that make an AB "Good" can be a simple as running up the pitch count before you're out...even due to K...

Which leads me to one of my favorite in game strategies...

Make the CPU's starters total pitch count (and his inevitable fatigue) your only goal and then jump all over his gassed azz in the 5th...

When I can't "see" / "feel" (or thereby) "hit" a certain pitcher, I go all pitch count on him and then unload...

        Works well / often...

Re: MLB 12 The Show - All Hitting Tips

i had a question about analog batting with no plate coverage.

Because i do not have plate coverage, how do i control aiming, or is just just based on my stride and timing.

I ask because i look at the feedback on my next pitch it shows the aim zone and it's not on the ball

          EDIT: also

I was wondering if anyone has ready links or seen youtube videos that help hitting in mlb the show and would share the links.

PCI placement with pure analog is based on player's ratings. You push R3 up and to the left/right/center depending on where the ball is thrown. Overall timing still determines whether you pull or "push" the ball. Sorry if I have confused you more! lol

Ok, i think i've settled on trying to learn zone pure analog and had a few questions:

              1. does pushing the right stick left or right effect my swing if i am using PCI?

              2. should i use influence pitches? (and if so, does influence left and right now vibrate my controller)

              3. does pressing x, o, and square change the type of swing i use?

hey guys question about the R2 + directional thing. im currently playing on pure analog and i thought r2 + direction just guessed the pitch location not move the bat, or is it pure analog + zone where you can manipulate where the bat starts ?

                  1. Not using Zone+. You have to physically move the PCI with L3

                  2. Not a requirement, but I will say "yes" depending on the situation. I have only noticed the rumble while pressing up and just recently pressing down. I have yet to feel the rumble pushing left/right although others swear you can do it.

                  3. Yes. Square=Power; X=Normal; O=Contact

using zone + analog has worked awesome for me and as to moving the pci what i do is guess high fastball a majority of the time, unless i know the guy is going to go to his dirty slider or something for an out pitch, but guessing high fastball, if your right then put a jolt in and try and drive it, and if your wrong on both high and fastball then just move the thing lower quickly and sit on the most likely breaking ball unless the pitcher has like a 2 seamer or cutter, and if your right on the fast ball then assume its low and just move the pci down there when the red strike zone box flashes to indicate that you guessed right, and if it looks like its hittable, then swing, but if its going to be too low or on the corner then hold off on it
                      i hope this helps

does changing between normal, power, and contact swing change the timing of the stride and swing?

I'm not talking about getting fooled by those that are close to the zone, I'm talking about at the eye level of my players and sometimes even higher.

I really don't want to (or intend to) swing, but it happens as almost some sort of unconscious reaction. It feels as if as my eyes follow the ball up the screen, my thumb automatically goes forward as well. On other instances I can tell you exactly when I swung...as those high balls come in, I follow them all the way, and right about the time I see the laces spinning I swing (which is way too late)--but again it is unintentional, I really just want to let it go.
I have the same problem. The ball comes you at eye level so it's a natural reaction to swing. I tried changing the camera angle higher, but then I miss the low pitches. LOL.

I started out hitting awful but after a few slider adjustments and being patient and waiting for good pitches to hit I finally started hitting. Now I can't hit anymore. It seems every game I play now the opposing pitcher's confidence bar is so high that it only takes them getting a couple of outs before it's maxed out and once that happens it's game over.

I really hate pitcher confidence because it overrides everything else. It doesn't matter if you get perfect timing, wheelhouse contract and good stride you won't hit the ball hard and if you do it's right at someone. It's so frustrating!

Edit: As soon as I went and posted this I hit a homerun. Go figure!

What sucks about the hitting on this game is that I have the pitch speed all the way down to 0 and still I'm either always late on the fastball or way out in front of the off-speed stuff. Everytime I make up my mind that a fastball is coming and gear up for it and swing early it's always an off-speed pitch and I look stupid. And it doesn't matter if I do it on pitch 1, 2, 3 I'm always wrong. The same goes for when I'm expecting off-speed and try to sit back on it then I end up being late on the fastball and what makes it even worst is when it's fastballs that I could hammer if I timed them right.
