Yeah.....I'm about done with this game. Shame, because I was really excited, and everything else is really good.

I've played two more games without guessing pitches(no clue how thsi is supposed to help) and I'm getting the same results. My timing and contact are good, but I went hitless in one game and managed two bleeders in the other.

I would say stick with it, tweak sliders and don't give up yet. Its baseball, you can fail 7 out of 10 times and still be a HOFer.

          Re: Extremely Low BABIP

Try any of these things (only one at a time, not all)

          - Raising the difficulty, only to All Star, no higher.
          - Raising the Solid Hits slider... 2 points should do the trick
          - Use Zone hitting, but do not move the PCI, ever. Simply press X at the appropriate time, as you already are. This requires you stay on Veteran for a bit, since higher difficulties have smaller PCIs

None of these solutions are permanent, it's just a matter of you getting a feel for the game at the plate, and I urge you to try them before you throw in the towel.

As for raising the difficulty, I believe the excessively large PCI you are gifted with at Veteran ends up hurting you, because you make contact on pitches you would have been better off missing/taking, and thus make an out on the first pitch, instead of crushing the 3rd. A larger PCI only means a larger chance of making an out - the center of the PCI is what you're interested in. Only a theory of course, but it's worth trying.

Sounds like me, i even raised the power and contact and it didnt seem to make much difference. I never had this problem in years past, i just can't get a lot of hits. Out of the 15 games i've played, i havent had one blowout, never scored more than 5 runs and those games were against teams that were doing poorly. I think i'll put the game down for a while and try it again later. I'm playing as the Phillies btw, i can't imagine what i would be doing with someone like pirates lol

              Re: Extremely Low BABIP

I normally use GP on every pitch.

              I have two reasons:

The reason I pick fast ball every pitch: I was told from the age of 13 and in college to "look fastball - adjust to offspeed." So that's what I do.

The reason I 'guess' low on every pitch: I have a hard time seeing what balls are going to be low in the zone or a low ball. I like to see whether it's going to be a ball or strike so I can take more pitches. I'm victim of hitting the first strike I get and not compiling good at bats.. just trying to hit anything in the strike zone. Also, if a pitch is going to be in the dirt, I send the runner on first. The ball usually kicks away just enough to get the SB.

BUT!!! With that said... I think I'm going to stop guessing pitches with everyone other than power hitters. (For starters... maybe not them, too.)

I still get hits when I hit offspeed stuff up in the zone... My problem is when I guess pitch and location, I'm rewarded with a ground ball to SS or 2B. ha

I've hit more homeruns on pitches that weren't guessed pitch or location than the ones I guess. So I think I'm going to stop guessing every pitch just to try and see if it helps my big hitters to hit for more power when the pitch is guessed.

But I've read on other threads to bump up the contact and power a couple clicks. It has helped get more hits... but doesn't chance the guess pitch issue. Guessed pitches are still weak hits.

Is there someone out there who is getting solid hits? A few 15 hit games here and there, not every game, but just to break up the monotony?

I am. I'm tracking my team batting in May of my franchise I've had 3 games of 10 plus hits in the 9 I've played this month. One 9 hit game, one 7 hitter, and 2 games of 4 and 5 hits with the. Nats. Team BA is .228, OBP is .287 and BABIP for the season is .293. Just gotta keep playing it will work out I think.

Are you playing with the Twins? This could easily be your problem.

I never use guess pitch. I actually can't believe I used to play with it. It's very arcade-ish.

I get plenty of solid hits. I have two players in the top 5 in the majors in batting averages, Ben Zobrist (#4) and Sam Fuld (#1), and Zobrist is also in the top 10 in the league in doubles, although I have no idea how many doubles that is.

Have you tried any of the suggestions yet?

And wait are your games against the CPU or against other humans?

I have never used guess pitch. I don't even know how to use it. I think this game does a good job of varying what happens. I just played a game where I got only 4 hits (all ground ball singles) and scored only 1 run. This following the last game I played where I scored 5 runs on 12 hits and hit quite a few liners. So it varies. I guess the game I just played John Lackey had his A stuff and the game before that Josh Tomlin didn't have his A stuff.

Are you just playing exhibition games against their top starter or are you facing #4 and 5 starters? You're going to have more success against a fifth starters fastball than an ace typically.

I would'nt give up on the game if you're frustrated. Try something other than just timing, that's why the options are there.

Nothing but scrubs for the last 20 games or so.

You mean the more difficult options? I should forfeit my skill with the mechanics of the game? Not to be a dick, but does anyone read posts before replying?

It's too late anyway. I've played at least another 10 games with a number of these suggestions, only to have things go worse. I'll decide over the weekend, but I'm leaning towards Craigslisting the PS3 and going back to 2k.
