When are you guys planning on making that call on Appel? Will he come up to start or go the David Price route as a reliever to begin his career?

This year I've been really intrigued to start a chise with the Stros. All this conversation in this thread is just adding to it. Like a lot of people I would be most interested by their farm, especially Springer. I am a HUGE fan of the UCONN product.

Previously discussing that the bullpen is a weak spot for the Astros. What players are you targeting to bolster the pen?

Could JJ Putz be a realistic trade target to have as a closer and leader in bullpen?

You definitely should. It's a great team to run with and MMP is a really nice venue

realistic? yes...likely? not for me....im not taking on anv kind of *hefty* salary....especially not for a 37-year old reliever

Stick with Crain but if he gas cans go with Cody Allen from Cleveland

Crain's INJ rating must be crap low....considering the Indians don't have anybody TRULY reliable closing, would they really wanna deal Allen?

They were confident enough in Axford to sign him so probably

Also, Paco Rodriguez from the Dodgers is a really, really good fit. Kelvin Herrera. Daniel Webb, Steve Delabar, Jeurys Familia, Seth Maness, Tim Collins, Sean Marshall.

I like Tim Collins outta this bunch. Probably because I have pitch with him before. He got gas to be a little guy!

Axford received a 1-year deal so he's not exactly guaranteed a spot..........I really like Herrera, Familia (not sure why the Mets would trade him)

Collins would surely be an upgrade over whatever lefty is in their pen currently
