I'm only in mid May but I benched Castro.

He has played 23 games and is hitting (.230/.284/.338) 2 HR's / 9 RBI's. He struggles vs RHP with a .212 AVG. He just doesn't a consistent MLB bat for me and I'm considering trading him.

Here are Castro's stats in my chise..

          26 games, 86AB's, 3HR, 16RBI, .244 BA

Nothing special but he is holding onto the catchers spot for now. This is also after a couple years of progression mind you. He seems to come through in the clutch for me at times then go 0-10 lol.

i'd probably expect more of him after a few years

I hear you and I do as well. However for now I'm not looking for a replacement .. especially at the catcher position. He plays good defense and throws runners out frequently so I give him a bit of leeway until I can either draft or sign a better guy.

i definetly agree...i want the guy to succeed and be my franchise catcher so bad....there's just something about him that's forcing me to sometimes reconsider

See the problem with Castro, and everyone knows it; he isn't ever going to a stud. He is an average to below average player offensive player who lacks pop. It's frustrating because you look at his ratings and hope for more production (or even a hot streak) but he falls short most of the time.... It's a shame because he is young and should be the perfect lefty bat to compliment JD down the road...But that's not going to happen.

If you still have him on your roster past 2012 you probably already signed him to a multiple year deal at the end of year 1. So you have to give him a shot.

If you are still playing in year 1, (NotFat), then you have to make a choice with this being his last year.

My plan with Castro (unless he really turns it around quickly and gets hot) is to package him in a deal with Wandy or (Lee) come early July. If he doesn't fit into any potential deals there, I'd be willing to trade him straight up for a pair of younger C prospects (whatever positions I miss on in the draft).

Right now I'd imagine teams would want him to be a guy that plays immediately and starts; but currently in my franchise, I don't see any teams that would be takers. I'm hoping a team in contention, gets a long term injury to their starter catcher, and looks at Castro as a good option.

A team like the Yankees comes to mind (with that short left field porch for lefty batters)

yeah the lack of power really bothers me as he only has 2 nearing the end of June....i wouldn't mind if he was consistently smackin balls in the gaps or down the lines but he's not doin that either...i dont know what im gunna do with him honestly...i did pick up an A pot catcher in the draft but he's 18 and probably wont be ready for the majors for another 3 years minimum.....there's nobody in AAA or AA that remotely excite me which makes my decision that much harder, plus throw in the fact free agency sucks
