Re: MLB 12 The Show Game Update 1.16 Arrives, Details Included - Post Your Impression

I am probably the only guy here who has two PS3 Slim consoles, and I'm damn sure happy to have two! I have 1.06 installed on one and 1.16 on the other, and I have two The Show 12 discs. Hopefully there won't be a problem starting a franchise with the 1.16 patch, but if there is, I'll start one with the 1.06 patch.

I bought two PS3s because I've had optical drive problems and waiting for the repair was not acceptable, or put another way, I need to play The Show baseball.

      tru dat blueduke.

my rtts is as basic as it gets. i play with almost all default setting. i used knights roster. i can understand people with a franchise can get very different set ups that are hard for a developer to work with. controlling multiple teams and what not. my rtts is as normal gameplay as it gets. knights roster is the only wrinkle i put into it. guess its my own fault for being past the all star break? i dont know.

HAHA I'm right there with you. I have 3 PS3's. I have the fat and slim upstairs still stock and have updated my main system. No problems at all with the update.

Do we have an option for a download of a patch? When I pop in the Show and there is a patch always get prompt to download it. There is not a yes or no option. I see this patch unlike others there is information or details of patch after the first or two downloads. Also I notice unlike in years past, we do not get info about patches in the announcements in the game.

I appreciate SCEA trying to get things correct, but it seems this year patches are causing problems. Problems that might allow some customers to sway a little. IMO!

So what's the final thought here with the patch? Don't download if you want to continue playing your franchise?

I went into my franchise (May 10th) and simulated all the way to the playoffs. Every team that was supposed to make the playoffs did, and all teams had 162 games played.

I am using 30 team control with Knight's ST rosters. I had to start this franchise over because patch 1.06 froze my original. Maybe it has something to do with the people having franchises past the All-Star break post patch?

So if we restart the franchise or RTTS, we should be fine? Does this only effect existing saves? I don't care about starting over, I just don't want to keep turning my PS3 off incorrectly in order to restart it when it freezes.

Seems like the game won't freeze anymore in the schedule when trying to start or simulate a game or watch certain box scores. But unfortunately the decimal bug (game ticker) is still existent (e.g. Home runs: 1. Fielder 23.00)! Why? The decimal bug that has been existent since last year only affected ERA stats. The 1.06/1.16 patch made everything worse because now pretty much every other statistic that shouldn't have decimals now has them. That's not a patch - it's the opposite of that!

Yeah, I think that's all most of us are looking for is an official statement from SCEA about what we should do regarding Franchise play, and also CROSS-PLATFORM SAVES.

You see that feature advertised in stores, on TV on the Internet and for it to not be working is a damn shame. Aside from posting in the Vita patch thread, I've been pretty silent, hoping we'd get an answer from SCEA about what the future of the Vita holds. But yet here we are with ANOTHER PS3 patch and still NO NEWS about the Vita.

                      I'm now officially pissed.

                        That's just not the case.

But I was asked if I think SCEA fully tested the patch ver. 1.16.

Instead of an answer, I'll ask one in return.

Do you think it was physically possible for SCEA to test the patch to match every save that the end users of this game have saved on their HDD's?

If your answer is yes......I've got no reason to even respond, because as much as I feel sorry that guys are having issues with in progress saves(of which I don't doubt one bit).....if you think they can test for every possible variation of our saves, you're being completely unreasonable.

....and.....even though it was said by SCEA that you would be able to continue........except for the guy who bought his first console and this is his first patched game.....to think that it was impossible to potentially have a problem with an in progress save is naive.
Not excusing anything here, but let's get real. Patches are a crapshoot except in fresh starts.
...and you know it....and I know you know it.

Redownloaded patch today to see if it would still freeze and it does. Doh!

                            You can tell them.
                            For sure.

Again....my points have little to do with the actual patch, but more on the point that guys are referring to the in progress franchise saves and "how can they not test that?"

WE are not even getting the same things across the board.

This is not about slack......me getting invited to SCEA(hint....even if I said "this patch sucks", which I wouldn't, but not for the reasons you guys would likely jump to conclusions on)....I'll likely still get the invite. You guys who bring that up constantly need to let go of that a little. Seriously.
....and more about the fact that you need to realize that what you guys are talking about is an impossibility.
It is impossible for them to test the patch in regards to OUR saved games.
Obviously.....something unique to certain saves is causing problems.

With that....I didn't say "patches are a crapshoot" but rather "patches on SAVED games is a crapshoot".

If the problem was arising on totally fresh starts......I could agree.

                            Guys...please don't twist what I'm saying because you're angry.
                            It's not right.

That's fine then, I know things happen. Can they return my money for training points so I can start over with the patches? If I have to start over, I have to. But I'd at least like a refund ASAP.

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. Do I delete the patches, continue with my RTTS and forget about franchise mode
Or do I download patches, so F it to my RTTS and start a new franchise mode.

I'm enjoying this game a ton, but can't do both modes I like now.

The MLB series is one of my favorites. And I have the utmost respect for the developers. They're far from lazy and they obviously care about the product they put out (of course, this goes for EA and 2K as well). Year in and year out they produce one of - if not the - best sports games on the market.

But this patch fiasco is simply unacceptable. These patches have broken the game for a significant number of users. If there's too many variables to accurately test the patch and make sure that it will work across all variables then don't release the patch. Simple as that. You can't break the game for X% of the buyers and then say "sorry, it was too hard to make it work for everyone. Better luck next time."

And it's pretty obvious now that the adjustment in the schedule on both patches is what is wreaking havoc. A simple statement of "hey, the schedules are different now, we recommend restarting any career modes" would have gone a long way, I think.

It'd be really nice too - and this isn't MLB specific - if they could do patches like NHL does tuners. You could select and choose which patch you want. Don't like 1.16? Go back to 1.06.

Anyway, this whole thing aggravates me, and I've been one of the lucky ones (knock on wood) who hasn't had any problems.
