Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread

is the draft in the show the same length as it is in real life? and did the show incorporate the new CBA rule where draft picks are now able to be included in trades? and just one final question, how do compensatory picks work? in 2K you get 2 picks for an A type player and i think just 1 for a B type player, how does it work in the show?

No. It only lasts around 4-5 rounds.

No. Remember, too, those are only certain picks.

      Same way.

That's completely ridiculous. Are you gonna trade someone to make room?

            Idk Right now I have

            Santana- Trying to Trade
Dickey- Could trade but he has bad stats and is old
Niese- Want to keep to Develop
Gee- Just came back from AAA
Mike Minor ( traded pelfrey and a prospect for him. probably gave up to much tho)

            Chris Young on DL
            Harvey in the Minors

            My Rotation is cluttered!!

Off topic, I'd say you gave up too little for Minor, but that's besides the point. Move Dickey into the bullpen?

Ceasar Puello was the Prospect. He's a Mid or High B. Not sure which one. And Thats probably my best bet. Unless I move Gee back to AAA and Trade Santana. The Next few Starts for Gee and Dickey will determine who goes where in terms of staying in the rotation.

I'm running a test M's franchise to test out some training strategies... anyway just finished my first draft and here's the highlights:

Round 1: Jorge Guerrero age 21 SP D overall A potential
Round 2: Kareem Benoit age 20 RF D overall B potential
Round 3: Todd Upshaw age 20 RF D overall A potential

Guerrero's OVR reaches the last L in "overall", so I'm assuming a very high D
Benoit's OVR is about 2/3rds full
Upshaw's OVR is about 1/2 full

The last two picks are scrubs, I'm not even gonna sign them, but how about the first three rounds

Yeah, CF and LF. The crazy thing is that the pitcher I drafted has CF and RF as secondaries lol. When I sim into the offseason I'll post their ratings.

It's weird, I see pitchers with secondary positions too... I got a couple of REALLY nice guys to post in the offseason, one's even a utility guy, LOL.

                          Quick Question

If you call up a pitcher (reliever or starter) and he does bad in his 1st outing and immediately goes cold do you send him down or give him a few more outings? His potential doesn't have a chance at going down until the end of the month and thats only if he's doing very poorly correct?

                          Thanks

Generally, it takes multiple weeks of being cold. Give him two/three more shots.

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread

Holy crap manual training is seriously the best! My players only gained points in the most important categories, resulting in a lot of +3's, +4's, and +5's, regardless of potential...

Anyway, here's the ratings for the three players I drafted:

Jorge Guerrero (RHP, age 21, mid A- potential)

                              Stamina - 76
                              Clutch - 41
                              (H/HR/K/BB)/9 - 34/51/54/32

                              SL 83.9 MPH (52/29/47)
                              4SB 89.9 MPH (52/61/59)
                              CUT 87.9 MPH (52/48/49)
                              CB 79.9 MPH (74/86/75)

*So the first thing that jumps out at me is the fact that he is already 21 and only a D overall, so he should gain +4/+5 every year. The low rate stats are a little alarming, but after 3 years he should be a #4/#5, and maybe a #3/fringe #2 in his prime (26-27). Stuff-wise I'm concerned about the lack of a offspeed weapon against lefties, but the curve looks dynamite and the cutter can be a bat buster.

Kareem Benoit (RF, R/R, age 20, highest B+ potential)

                              L/R Contact - 76/60
                              L/R Power - 28/24
                              Vis/Disc - 62/55
                              Clutch - 87
                              Dur - 91
                              Speed/Arm/Acc - 22/35/23
                              Reaction/Fielding - 69/56
                              BR Ability/Aggressiveness - 8/5

*If the power ever develops, this guy has a chance to be dangerous. No secondary positions so he might end up as a DH in the long run, but the glove is good enough to play a serviceable RF.

                              Todd Upshaw (RF-OF, L/R, age 20, low A- potential)

                              L/R Contact - 57/57
                              L/R Power - 29/34
                              Vis/Disc - 56/52
                              Clutch - 62
                              Dur - 82
                              Speed/Arm/Acc - 30/50/33
                              Reaction/Fielding - 17/26
                              BR Ability/Aggressiveness - 5/3

*Really excited about this guy, has a potential ceiling of .290+ and 15+ HR. Hits lefties and righties equally well and already has a good knowledge of the strike zone. Defensive shortcomings might force a move to left, but the bat will be good enough to stay in the lineup

Side note, but I love the fact that the game randomizes deliveries, stances, and equipment now. Didn't have to edit any gear, my guys already looked like professional ballplayers.

Totally agree. I never really paid any real attn to it before this year ,Now I have really noticed a difference. Although I found that the Control an movement stats for pitchers don't seem to go up very much or rather as much as I felt like they should even if you leave on them for the whole season
