Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread

Now that I finally understand how to develop players thanks to that guide, does anyone have any guides on how to scout properly?

I'm 100% confused on what/how to scout. Like not even a clue on how to scout effectively. It's getting to the point where I sign A free agents every year because I'm picking in the amateur draft blindly. (mostly drafting BUSTS!) I have no idea what to do in the scouting screen and what is effective. What am I looking for? Scout focus or scout players? Who do I scout? How long do I scout players for? etc. etc.

    Thanks

What I do is, I set the Focus for my areas of need, hire the best scouts, and just go down the pool of players, scouting every one, three at a time. That way, the best players get scouted.

Hit Jackpot recently in my Mets Franchise. Matt Harvey was already a top 5 A potential prospect on my team (I believe he was the 4th person). He's 14-2 1.60 ERA in AAA. Got the over achiever message and he's now bumped up to the Top A potential prospect on my Team. He's as high at the potential scale can go. He's at a C overall right now and I have my training assignments on although I just started them 2 weeks ago because I just found this thread. Regardless, should I bring him up now or wait until Next Season when hopefully he would have progressed to a B overall?

22 games out so nothing to lose except damaging his development

          Thanks

In Royal's development guide, there are criteria for calling guys up, I'd consult that.

Does anyone really care where I sent this from?

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread

Thanks to some help from this thread, I finally have stopped wasting my picks on A free agents. :P

Got my first "gem" this week. Ended up drafting a Tony Gwynn clone one of those years in the 2nd round (might have even been third). Name is Worley... first name escapes me at the moment. Right now he's a B overall, A potential, 24 years old, with 92/83 contact R/L and in the 50-60 power range. Still getting better every year too. Have him locked into a 10yr/33M deal...hahahah. Started out as a D/A. Can't field very well at all, but I suppose that'll just make his hitting progress to an absolute absurd level.

Is he in the bigs yet? How's he hit in the minors?

He's in AAA right now because there really isn't any room in the lineup for him right now. He hit .324 last year in AAA and at the all-star break this year he's hitting .331 with 14 HRs and 46 RBIs. Still a B overall too, so he's only going to get better!

Also have a B/A 24 year old LF with 56/65 contact R/L, 66/73 power R/L, with 69 PVS. Should be good in the years to come.

Had a pretty good draft this year. Let Reyes walk in the offseason and had a ton of picks. Got a D/A catcher (18), D/A 1B (23), and two D/B players at 19 and 18 years old.

Drafted really well with the Mets. Drafted 4 A's and a C. Future looks bright.

                            FOUR A's? That's half a lineup!

Think I may just be getting lucky. Been hiring the best scouts, and set the focus to each of their strengths. Then I'll go in from time to time to make sure they aren't continuing to scout a guy with a revealed potential and switch it to guys I'm curious about. Been working out well lately.
