Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
Totally agree. I never really paid any real attn to it before this year ,Now I have really noticed a difference. Although I found that the Control an movement stats for pitchers don't seem to go up very much or rather as much as I felt like they should even if you leave on them for the whole season
b) I looked at each region's positional depth and chose scouts according to which position had the most top prospects. Then I set the scouting focus to those positions and basically let the CPU do the rest of the work. Next year's crop is already looking good, they've already scouted 3-4 A potentials per region, and I just started spring training.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
So in my 2nd draft (2013) I had 8(!) picks, netted 2 A's and 3 B's. I'll post the ratings after the season, as well as guys like Walker, Paxton, and Hultzen to show how my training program is going.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
Quick question and hopefully not a stupid one:
Would I be correct if I said that training assignments only improved players at the single A level? Or does it affect all minors or all players?
For instance, I have Courtney Hawkins in A-ball so if I put him in the weight room would that increase only his power, Alex Rios if he was still developing, and everyone in between or just Hawkins?Comment

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
*Does anyone know if players will randomly gain secondary positions? My B+ RF now has 3B, LF, CF as secondaries, was only a RF when drafted.
OK so I finished 2013 so here are the players I drafted:
Kevin Schmitt (RHP, age 20, mid A- potential)
Stamina - 70
Clutch - 51
(H/HR/K/BB)/9 - 33/25/49/32
4SB 92 MPH (63/54/50)
SCV 80.9 MPH (80/29/46)
CH 86 MPH (11/47/39)
CUT 91 MPH (68/42/49)
*Really, really, really raw. Good fastball but overall poor command, might end up as a bullpen guy.
Javier Ramos (RHP, age 20, low D- potential)
Stamina - 20
Clutch - 31
(H/HR/K/BB)/9 - 61/48/56/40
4SB 92 MPH (63/63/82)
CH 86.9 MPH (6/61/62)
2SFB 88.9 MPH (59/20/73)
*Probably already maxed out, good stuff will help in the lower levels but probably will struggle against advanced hitters.
Jason Clemens (1B, L/R, age 19, mid B)
L/R Contact - 47/76
L/R Power - 25/36
Vis/Disc - 68/71
Clutch - 63
Dur - 40
Speed/Arm/Acc - 38/82/41
Reaction/Fielding - 27/40
BR Ability/Aggressiveness - 23/14
*Another advanced bat, might be injury prone but has the potential to be a solid big leaguer
Shaun Haage (2B-3B/SS, S/R, age 19, low B-)
L/R Contact - 27/38
L/R Power - 46/41
Vis/Disc - 29/38
Clutch - 40
Dur - 81
Speed/Arm/Acc - 43/56/47
Reaction/Fielding - 46/61
BR Ability/Aggressiveness - 57/36
*Good glove, good pop, but currently well below average with the stick. Has plenty of time to work it out though.
Russ Rubin (LF-OF, age 21, L/L, low A- potential)
L/R Contact - 35/42
L/R Power - 26/27
Vis/Disc - 39/41
Clutch - 54
Dur - 93
Speed/Arm/Acc - 29/39/31
Reaction/Fielding - 33/35
BR Ability/Aggressiveness - 22/14
Junior Gutierrez (LF-3B/OF, age 18, R/R, mid B potential)
L/R Contact - 35/25
L/R Power - 29/28
Vis/Disc - 48/37
Clutch - 49
Dur - 59
Speed/Arm/Acc - 30/32/30
Reaction/Fielding - 27/28
BR Ability/Aggressiveness - 34/22
*The last two guys are projects, might end up becoming trade bait if they lag behind.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
Paxton was having a ridiculous 2012 in AA, so I brought him up after the All-star break while Vargas was on the DL. Struck out 36 in 34.1 innings but had too many walks, sent him to AAA and he had a meh 2013 as well.
Promoted Hultzen to AAA halfway through 2012, made the big club out of spring training but missed the first 2 weeks to a thumb injury. Went 11-5 with a 5.09 ERA and 127 K's, started out in long relief, but Hector Noesi sucked so he took his rotation spot.
Walker was a monster in 2012, something like a 2.50 ERA with 180 K's in 170 innings. Started him in AA again to begin 2013, remained a monster, so I promoted him to AAA in the beginning of June. Held his own, had a low 4's ERA with a lot of strikeouts.
The biggest surprise for me was Nick Franklin. Was solid in AA, injuries lead to a promotion to AAA but struggled. Started 2013 in AAA and hit .360, traded Brendan Ryan to the Yankees at the deadline (Jeter retired in 2012 lol), promoted Franklin and he hit .269 with 6 HR in 189 AB's.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

This, right here, is why pitcher wins is useless. 5.09 ERA? OUCH.

Ooh boy, maybe there is something to that Bob Feller comparison

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
Lol I'm actually surprised Hultzen won 11 because my bullpen was god awful. Every single reliever had a 4.50+ ERA, they would come in and get shelled, which would cost my starters a lot of inherited runs. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the sim engine, maybe clutch has too big of a role? All of my relievers have 55 or below clutch ratings, and when I look at other teams, their shutdown relievers have clutch in the 70's and 80's. I really need to find a formula to calculate clutch, I can't remember what Scott used lol.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: The Official Draft Discussion Thread
Nope, I do my own re-rates every year using Bahnzo's calc (which Scott uses a derivation of) and I've been updating OSFM v3 since I uploaded it to the vault. I've always rolled with my own rosters, its just that this was the first year I actively published some of my work lol.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment
