One question I haven't seen asked/answered(if it has then I apologize), but in Spring Training, will we have the option of using our entire roster in order to evaluate players? If so, will the cpu do the same? What about split squad games?

Re: Community Day 2013 - FRANCHISE MODE/EDITOR
I asked them if they could somehow disassociate the 40 man(and options) with Spring Training and open the entire 90 man org. to be available.....
They will look into it for '14

Yeah the options thing is a bit annoying but hey its small potatoes compared to what you get in return.Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - FRANCHISE MODE/EDITOR
Anyone on the 40 man during ST burns an option if he does not start the season on the MLB squad. They got that right.
But...to get a guy to play in ST in The Show...you've got to 40 man him and thus burn an option(when you should really have anyone you want)(unless that is what you meant.
If so...disregard

Well the options part is correct.

5. The Futures Game -
If I see Boof Bonser and Paul McAnulty one more time on the roster I will flip!!!!
Offer a more intuitive AI on the selection of the players in the Futures Game. Possibly have it contingent upon the ratings we give coupled with the potential grades we adapt in OSFM.
I looked into this and to be honest I didn't see any guys with major league service time. Now the disclaimer is I was using default rosters. I don't know what will happen once we fill up spots in the minors with "real" players.
1. Did they fix the Rule 5 Glitch during the season with the Nov 5th message.
I never really understood this and didn't know what to look for. I could never replicate it and never ran into it, and I usually am pretty good at finding bugs..
3. Ability for 40 man rosters before the minor league teams finish their season.
If you are asking if you can bring players on the 40 man up in September before their season is over, the answer is no. Works the same way.Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - FRANCHISE MODE/EDITOR
-Is there/can they add at least a random generator of who the CPU plays from the 40 man roster in ST so it's not always the starting lineups/pitchers and has some variation?
Not at the late time we were there. It would mean changing the options and resetting the 40 man for the start of the season....way too late to try.
Hopefully they open it up next year.
In franchise mode this year is the new FA rule implemented? for example of your a top tier free agent you have a draft pick tied to you. For example Adam laRoche just re-signed with the Nationals today if he would have signed with anyone else the Nats would have been owed a draft pick by the team he would have signed with. Just wanted to know if this has been added to Franchise mode during the off season.
Yes...all the new CBA rules are in.
- Will we be allowed to sign free agents to minor league deals? As it is, when you sign a free agent, he automatically gets added to the 40-man roster and the MLB team.
Not yet....it's all still tied together. That's going to take a large amount of AI rewriting.
- It would be cool if there is some more give and take when signing free agents. For example, it would be cool to sign a SS, but specify you want to sign him mainly as a 2B, and then this would affect the player's decision to join your team, etc. Is there anything new like this or is it still just the bland "more money" and "more years" discourse?
This is a suggestion that tabarnes has been pushing.
A player will take into account your organizational depth and it will make a difference in whether he signs with your or someone else to some extent.
- With trades, is there more involvement with the amounts? For example, it's frustrating when a team won't trade because "the owner is not willing NOT take on more money." Why is there no option to then assume some of the contract and eat some of the money so that the other team isn't taking on more money and will actually do the trade.
Not yet....I don't even know if they are considering this....but it's a good idea and will be brought up.
Knight, is there any way for the dev team to figure out a way to make sure the AI doesn't start a pitcher who's not fully rested. Maybe the AI would know to start a pitcher in the bullpen, like a rested long inning reliever or call up a player for a spot start.
I hope so....we spoke to Aaron about a few pitching AI problems. I hope they get addressed.
One more - will there finally be a spot in the pitching rotation for a spot starter? As it is now, if you spot start a pitcher for whatever reason, but then want to continue the rotation where you left off, you'll have to move the pitchers all up a spot. This could potentially cause your whole rotation to shift so that your number 5 starter becomes your number 1 starter, your number 1 started becomes number 2, etc. If there is just a spot in the rotation for a spot starter (which could be left empty the majority of the time unless you spot start someone), it would help solve this issue. I hope that made sense...
The first spot in the LRP spots is really the spot starter. But the logic to skip a pitcher is in for the CPU at least. For what you are describing....don't make the switch at the pitcher selection screen....but rather in the pitching rotation screen. I know what you want though and it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the Spot Starter and a % of starts for him
Has a living roster type format been talked about ever? I'm sure it has and i'm missing something.
For franchise?...not this year.
What has been done do address the trade logic and franchise finances? It seemed most teams couldnt afford players after 3 or 4 years, then star players in free agency would only receive one year contracts because teams couldnt afford them. I also noticed that higher potential players with no service time would receive way too much money in arbitration, anywhere from 5 to 8 million.
Budgets and logic are totally new. They seemed to work okay except where you noted with arbitration players....that was still a problem. We noted it to them and hopefully they worked on it for release.
Has the simcast experience been revamped? Last year there was a lot of batters swinging on 3-0 pitches, bunts with 2 strikes or bases loaded, and it just wasn't an accurate depiction of baseball strategy. It was my first year playing the show and I remember MVP 05 had a great simcast experience. Would love to see more hit and runs from the computer too during sims.
I don't think simcast manager has changed
also, will there be rained out games or rain delays?
no
I'm pretty sure after the EA/NCAA class action lawsuit, that no company will ever use anybody's likeness without compensating them for it.
This is so true now .....I doubt you will ever see a company try the "fake player with initials" thing again. Plus....a lot of the time I don't even think that most of those were correct in some games. Guys were reaching with their....Keith Matts is Kevin Millar guesses.
I'm afraid this will eventually extend to end user rosters as well. I remember when a guy made the Indy track for Nascar Racing and was personally sued.
That track came of websites mighty fast.
We'll see.
Basically it would be nice if there was an option that gave us complete control over our baserunners, and when (and if) they dove back to their bases. Currently the pickoff system is very forced. I get picked off with guys I have no intention of stealing with, simply because of the dice roll factor.
I believe this is the same
Are any of the new franchise options season length? I hate simming games but like the shorter seasons to get a few years into franchise. Even season mode with changing schedules year to year would be fine, since it had the option for short seasons and was basically franchise minus the detailed financial stuff, if the schedule wasn't exactly the same every season in that mode.
No...162
You might already be able to answer this Knight. If not i am sure you'll check on it while at CD. Can we edit potential and service time this year when creating a player or editing the fake ones?
No...I did ask Lorne to add some service time fake players.
I hope he remembered.
Alright this is my last question and it pertains to the editor. When editing a fake player or creating one can you find out what the maximum amount of characters can be used for last names? For example in MLB 12 when giving a player the last name "Hollingsworth" The game only allows you to use 10 characters therefor it would be spelled "Hollingswor" yet the last name database has "Hollingsworth" in it. Just wanted to know if they've expanded on the amount of charcters that can be used when creating a last name if that makes sense.
Same as '12..
Can you simulate all non-user games without cycling through every team?
30 team control?
It thinks you want to play those games.
Can we throw warm up pitches with a pitcher who enters a game due to an injury?
Too late to add it.
I did mention it.
For drafts (both fantasy and amateur), will pressing the Recommended Player button actually show us the recommended player, or will it show us the highest overall player at that position like before?
Won't need it....teams will draft on their own now...amateur and Rule V It's an option when starting franchise now
More later....

Hey Knight,
I've been searching for the answer to this, but haven't seen it, so I'll ask it again. Basically all I really want to know is if stats have been vastly improved. For me, Franchise would be so much better if you could view a whole slew of stats at will, kind of like the way you would base your lineup in a Fantasy league based off the past 10 games, specific hitter/pitcher matchups, etc. As it is now in '12, after the first batter, a graphic pops up that shows the pitcher's stats from his last game. I hate how you can't view this info with the push of a button. Anyways, you get the idea. Please please please tell me this aspect of the game has been improved... Thanks.Comment

I think they will focus on stats quite a bit on the PS4 as it's all memory issues now on the PS3

Knight, if this has been asked sorry. Has the free agent issue been fixed in terms of having to change the contract option to manual then sim to the last day and change it back to auto to get more free agents?Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - FRANCHISE MODE/EDITOR
For the spot starter thing I think what he's getting at is that the game automatically keeps track of your rotation for you... but there's no way to edit this internal rotation. So if my pitchers are... David Price, James Shields, Matt Moore, Wade Davis, and Jeff Niemann... in that order, 1-5
Let's say Niemann did his scheduled start yesterday. But David Price pitched extra innings last time so I want to give him an extra day of rest... and I start some random reliever instead... "tomorrow" (let's say Tuesday) the game will default on James Shields being the next starter, even though I actually want David Price to start. Then the next day, it will default to Matt Moore, instead of James Shields, and so on...
Even worse, if I want to then sim a game... it will automatically sim the game with the internal scheduled starter. So if I sim that Tuesday game, it automatically makes Jame Shields start that game, even though it's Price's turn by my watch... and there's not really any way around this part.Comment
