Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
MLB 10 The Show was the first game of the series I have played and I haven't played any other baseball game besides the show since. I have gotten the latest show game each year and my favorite mode is franchise.
It has always been really hard to play a whole 162 game year. I don't want to make it to where the season is like 14 games because then there will be no regular season series. I have been reading other posts on this thread and I really like the idea of play 1 sim 5. That way I can possibly get through multiple years and the scouting I have done will be of some use.
This year will also be the first year I download the OSFM rosters. I have seen people talk about these for a while but I never new what they were talking about. I searched around and found out what they were and I was very happy when it meant full minors. I have heard great things about them and I think it will truly bring another level of being realistic. The only thing is that it will be another month after the release of the game until they come out. It will be so tempting to just start a franchise before march 31st but I have heard it is worth the wait so I will have to suffer through and wait it out.Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
For the longest time I was strictly a RTTS player. I started a Franchise in MLB12 more so that I could control league trades, plus I liked the Franchise aspect. I usually do all the batting and sim the pitching when I play. That lets me complete a game in a decent amount of time.
What I really wish for would be a merging of Franchise and RTTS where you have the option of just batting with your created player, if you so choose, and simming all the rest. That way you could still control trades and Franchise aspects, but control only your player and really speed up the number of games that you can actually play. This would be a good way to be able to get several years into a Franchise without simming a bunch of complete games...Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
Before All-Star Break.
+ Play one Division Game each time there is a series.
After All-Star Break (Until September 1)
+ Play two Division Games per series.
September/October
+Play Key Games As Needed
This is still a lot of games to play (around 34-40) but you can also fast-forward as you like.
I will be doing something like this with MLB 13.Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
I keep up with the current season moves and play all 162 games for one team in each league. What I do is sim the first four innings of most games. I let the chips fall where they may and take over in the fifth inning, even if my team is way behind. So far this has worked out well for me and helps to balance W-L records and stats.Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
What I do is when I first get the game, I play a couple of exhibition games just to get a feel for it. I then start a franchise with Fantasy Draft to get me going until OSFM Opening Day Rosters come out. I then start a franchise and a RTTS from there. After this point I never play an exhibition game unless someone comes over or I play one of my kids.
During my franchise, I will play all holiday games (Opening day, Mother's Day, Jackie Robinson Day). I will also play key matchups where I don't think the computer will give me a win. I also like to play days where I put a lot of bench players in. But then I will also sim 1-2 week stretchs. I will also play every game in the playoffs. I always sim spring training. Oh yeah and I like the Away interleague games.
I play RTTS when I don't have a lot of time as I can get a lot of games in, in a short period of time.
Hope that helped.Comment

Originally posted by baseballin23I'm the same way but for 2013 I think i'm gonna just try to play one season because getting 2-3 years in while playing every game is too time consuming. I don't have a set plan yet but i'm leaning towards starting my franchise as soon as i get the game and playing spring training close to the pace of the real life scheduleComment

Yep, I think they just have not advertised the feature well enough or explained it in the game. Even some of the diehards here are confused by it and we get a lot of questions about it every year. It is one of the most amazing features in a sports video game ever that gives you total control over your franchise to take as much or as little control as you like and there are no drawbacks. You can use it to literally manage every teams lineups and bullpens or just use it when the CPU does something dumb. Some guys like to play a game a day and keep all the rosters up to date to real life and this lets them do it, but for the most part people use it to fix it when they thing the CPU messes up. You are really going to love it! Glad to see you got your question answered before I could get back to ya.Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
Sorry for the late reply. I only want to play one game a week - essentially 26 games + playoffs - so I keep track of all the games I play in Excel. My goal is to complete the regular season in 4 weeks. Hopefully I will play over 162 games throughout many seasons and I'll have TEAM stats for those games. Here's the document I use - it's currently set up for my PIT '13 franchise. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1FG...it?usp=sharing Any field that is a white cell will need to have data added and any field that is blue will have the data calculated. For W, L, and S place an "x" (no quotes) to have it tally in the Stats tab. All information in the Stats tab will be calculated. You only need to place data in the Game Log tabs.Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
I think the main reason I'm more interested than usual in playing more than 1 season is because of the revamp to the scouting, and the ability to really develop the future of your ball club more accurately using this. I guess the fact I don't plan on picking this game up til mid May will help with seeing how well the scouting/potential/franchise changes have been implemented and how well they work.
Really enjoying all the input in this thread, both in terms of people offering ideas, and people who are in the same position as myself.Comment

Re: MLB 13 - The Show: Franchise Playing Tips
I am hoping that this year I might actually get past year 4-5. I typically get burnt out once all the OSFM prospects make it up and a lot of the big time players retire. Hopefully the new scouting and in-contract players not retiring might keep me interested enough to keep going past year 4-5. I usually hit that mark and then start a new franchise with a new roster and do a fantasy draft to keep things interesting. But if you get bored of franchise, there's DD, RTTS, online, and others to keep you busy. Hell you could try out a different game as well...Comment
