They aren't allowed to use anything Expos related. This was in the agreement for letting them move cities. They can't have any Expos throwback jerseys or hats, and all of the numbers that were retired for the Expos were even unretired for the Nationals.(Not sure they even had any, but it was in the agreement as well.) It was pretty much like a brand new expansion franchise when they moved. It was the same situation as the Thunder not being able to wear Super Sonics stuff.

Ok but the Expos uniforms were definitely in as throwbacks for the Nats a few years ago, like MLB 09 or so. How did that happen if the team was already in DC in 05 but 4 years later the Expos jerseys were in the game?Comment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
Example, Nats have the Senators. The Senators became the Twins and the Rangers.
Neither the Twins nor the Rangers have Senators throwbacks in MLBTS
The Mariners have Pilots throwbacks, even though the Pilots became the Brewers.
STL had the Browns. The Browns became the Orioles.
There is obviously a reason for this.Comment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
I dont think so. Every team that is an expansion team has only had throwbacks from the city they currently reside rather than the franchise in which they cam from.

I'd like to see a source that explains this.Last edited by Curahee; 02-21-2013, 07:22 PM.Comment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
No offense, I dont know that this is true. MLB bought the Expos and essentially bailed them out of Bankruptcy. Maybe MLB told the Lerners when they sold them the Nats, but I cant see the Expos telling MLB you cant use our old stuff.
I'd like to see a source that explains this.
Hence that's probably the reason the Nationals have never worn Expos unis since going to DC.Comment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
There is an article on this (can't find it currently) but the stipulations were that the Nationals were prohibited from wearing Expos gear, colors etc...... Same stipulations that the OKC Thunder had when they left Seattle. The only thing the Nats were allowed to keep that were Expos related was their minor league affiliates(players included) and their Spring Training complex in Florida.
Hence that's probably the reason the Nationals have never worn Expos unis since going to DC.
Ive found no stipulation saying they are prohibited from doing so.
OKC & SEA is a different story because SEA was not purchased by the NBA.
And it was the city of SEA that sued Clay Bennett for the rights to the team so that they may establish another Supersonics if they so desire.
MON was purchased by MLB instead of contraction and sold the Nats to the Lerners in 2006.Comment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
Yeah if you can find it, Id like to see it, because the articles Ive read state just the opposite, that the Lerners want nothing to do with the Expos because they want to create their own identity and not relive old ones.
Ive found no stipulation saying they are prohibited from doing so.

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
In 2001 MLB was gonna contract MIN & MON, Henry who owned the Marlins, Bought the Red Sox and sold FLA to Loria, Loria sold MON to MLB to avoid contraction. MLB kept the Expos in MON until 2005 when they moved them to DC which was voted on by all 30 teams 29-1, only rejected by BAL.
In 2006 MLB sold the Nats to the Lerners. Again, nowhere in any of that info can I find any stipulation from Loria to MLB or MLB to Lerner not to use the Expos. Normally, when you buy a team, you also buy their rights.
I can easily find info on SEA vs OKC. Ive studied baseball for many years and Ive never once heard the Nats are not allowed to use the MON likeness, but rather Lerner doesnt want to. So much so, that many fans & organizations are begging Lerner to host an Expos day and are offering to sponsor it. Lerner each time has said no. Not "I cant", more "I dont want to".
JUST SO YOU KNOW.....
Im not saying youre wrong, Im just saying Ive never heard that and cant find it anywhere.Comment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
Weren't these Royals unis already in last years game? If anything I would've loved seeing the 02-03 black uni's in just for something different. Our current jersey's are almost exactly like the throwbacksComment

Re: List of Every Teams Throwback Unis
One thing to remember is that the Texas Rangers still owned the identity of the Washington Senators when the Expos moved to Washington. It wasn't until hicks was being pushed out that the team sold the old history back to the Nationals. That could be a big reason why there is a split.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks
