Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I used to be a huge fan of Buck and FOX Baseball games, now I'm less interested because of his lack of emotion. Let him go do football.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Ive always said, its not so much what the commentators say in this game, its how they say it.
Way too canned, not natural or flowing enough, but im sure its something SCEA will work on in the PS4 versions to come.
As for Joe Buck - honestly, id rather sit there in total silence than listen to that self important weak knowledged man utter one single word on this otherwise wonderful game. The problem with The Shows commentary is that there are pretty much NO flow and conversations.. They don't ever talk to each other... And hardly react to what each other say. None of them have any life.. Hit a walk off homerun.. Matt sounds hardly interested. It's not the guys.. It's the uninteresting tone in their voices and lack of knowledge and interesting stuff that they talk about in the booth.
No more *event happens*... "one line response"
They need to have actual group efforts out there. No point in even having three commentators if only one is ever doing his job in any given inning.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Joe Buck's lack of enthusiasm as an MLB commentator and play-by-play man have sunken to new lows the past 3 seasons or so. Have you heard the man in the playoffs the last couple years? How about the dramatic Nelson Cruz HR that he called like he was drowsy and didn't care?

Honestly, I wish they would just let TV broadcasters of each team commentate their team in the postseason. With the exception of broadcasters like Hawk Harrelson, of course.
"YOU CAN PUT IT ONN THE BBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRDDDDDDD, YEESSSSS!!!"
That's not something I wanna hear in the postseason.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I hope he is good. I've listened to a few Dodger games he called and I liked his style. I play so much RTTS though, so I probably won't really hear him with the commentary out of RTTS.Detroit Tigers|Detroit Reds Wings|Green Bay PackersComment

Mike Krukow was the the best. He did the MVP games a while back. I'd be stoked if they got him and Duane Kuiper for The Show.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Commentary isn't a huge concern for me, but it would add to the immersion factor ten fold if they could redo it in a way that sounds more natural and conversational.
Hell, I'd take a booth of Joe Buck and Joe Morgan if it sounded more natural than what we have currently. Now, more than everComment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Reynolds for play by play or color instead of Lyons? I'd would have rather had him than Lyons but Lyons is still an improvement. As for the play by play, my top choice would be Costas. He's gone on record in the past saying that baseball is his favorite sport to do and he's always entertaining. But, he is Bob Costas and would probably cost an arm and a leg. My other choice would be Chip Carey. He does the national TBS game and always seems to have a ton of enthusiasm. Plus, he's a Carey and they've been doing it a long time in that family. Then there's always the option of getting rid of the other two guys and just have Vin Scully do everything. But, because of his name and his age he may cost even more than Costas would.
With all that said though, other posters are correct. The format itself needs to be fixed or it's not gonna matter who does it.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I still believe Joe Buck has gotten the chances he has because of who his dad was. It's the same with Skip and Chip Caray. I'm a huge Cubs fan, but there was only one Harry.
Nothing makes me madder than hearing Buck and McCarver announce Cardinals playoff games. That would have been like letting Harry and Santo announce a Cubs playoff game. Anybody who doesn't hear the bias is deaf.
I like Vasgersian, but I believe too much is recycled every year. Was Vasgersian originally selected because he was a Padres announcer and the game is made in San Diego? Was it a convience thing? I honestly don't know the answer (so don't roast me if that is widely known).
I love commentary in games, but what I really ask is that it just doesn't take away from the game. I can always turn it off, but to me it adds an extra layer to the game. I just don't want it to be like the NCAA basketball game a few years back with Dick Vitale!Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Yeah he's certainly a real life commentator. He did play-by-play commentary for several season with the Brewers and Padres, not to mention he also does commentary every now-and-then for games on MLB Network. Infact, I remember Vasgersian doing the play-by-play in Game 2 of the ALDS with the A's in Detroit.Comment
