Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Here's my lineup for the remainder of the season:

    1. LF Scott Podsednik (signed during spring training)
    2. CF Brett Gardner (Alex Gordon to NYY for Gardner/Pineda)
    3. 1B Billy Butler
    4. DH Josh Willingham (Gave up John Lamb for him)
    5. C Salvador Perez
    6. 3B Mike Moustakas
    7. SS Alcides Escobar
    8. RF Jeff Francoeur
    9. 2B Chris Getz

Thoughts? Also, how many bench players do you guys tend to have? I'm just wondering if I should send someone to Triple-A from my bullpen or not.

True, I like Hosmer as much as the next guy but we already have a guy who struggles to hit lefties in Morneau. Sure Hosmer could put it together. Or he could fizzle out. Would it be worth our best slugger, closer and another propsect like Kyle Gibson? If we had a need a first but the Twins have a variety of options there and Mauer to 1st has been discussed in the eventual plans for a while now.

WaitTilNextYear, it could possibly work. Both Hosmer and Morneau are good fielders for their position so DH'ing either one of them will probably decrease their value. Morneau's contract is up after this year so if he shows no sign of some of his pre-concussion form, it leaves room for a Hosmer trade. I think the Twins will wait it out this year though.

And to the OP, you still overpaid for Willingham

Very speedy lineup, very RH dominant for power. Where is Hosmer? You could toss Willingham in RF, Butler back at DH and Hosmer to 1B if you still have him. Overall though, not bad, a good mix of vets/younger players. Podsednik really depends on how he plays for you. I like it.

The bench really depends on the construction of your team. I feel that for an AL club, 4 bench position players is optimal, so 13 position players and 12 pitchers on the 25-man. Now, if you have a super-UTIL guy who can switch hit and has some pop, you can probably roll with 3 bench players and stack your pen. Then again, if you have 2-3 poor defenders chained to a position, you might want to carry a 5th bench player to bolster your particular weak position.

I know I did, but I really liked the idea of Willingham in my lineup, so I went ahead and gave them Lamb.

Hi guys, I need to know what you think of this trade.
RP Bill Bray OVR 80 low b + Ian Krol OVR 66 mid B + Brian Goodwin OVR 70 high B for Tim Lincecum. Giants out of contention.

I also need a good, cheap defensive CF.

Goodwin's an OF prospect, right? That's completely fine.

Jarrod Dyson, Peter Bourjos, Craig Gentry, Gerardo Parra, Jordan Danks, Gregor Blanco, Roger Bernadina, Brandon Barnes?

Don't shoot me for this; what would it take for Rendon on the Blue Jays? I'm not very familiar with the Nats' needs. I have him at a low A/mid B in the spreadsheet but other opinions would be appreciated.

I'm thinking Ricky Romero as a mid B because the Nats could use a starter in case of Haren and Ricky in the NL is a nice thought, but I don't really know what to do beyond that.

Yikes, Rendon is a really, really good prospect (as you know). The Nats wouldn't be interested In Romero as much as they would Norris. He might be required as the Nats would want someone to complement Lucas Giolito. As for the B, I say it would be along the lines of Rasmus, as they need him. A high C can be returned to you (as I don't know their system). Rasmus gives them a young OF prescience, that, besides Harper, they lack. It's a high price, but you will get back a top tier prospect.

How about me now? I like Rendon too! Or Giolito. Giolito might be harder but I wanna see.

Osuna and Gose? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want Ricky and his contract.

There hasn't really been a true untouchable on the Sox since Frank Thomas before his falling out. Kenny Williams absolutely would deal both Danks and Floyd at the deadline this season if they are out of it. They let Buehrle go, they absolutely wouldn't bat an eye at trading Danks if not in contention. Peavy too. Sale is the only SP safe in my book. Would anyone offer enough to get Kenny Williams to trade Danks? There I agree with you (Danks' value is low right now), that is the question, not whether KW or the fan base would allow it to happen.

And remember the OP was trying to trade FOR Danks to the Rox so what other GMs think about Danks is kinda irrelevant since the OP is the acquiring GM. KW being amenable to potentially trading Danks is really the key thing here. I appreciate you striving for realism, but as a Chicago-area native who has a good handle on KW's career in Chicago (as a maverick willing to trade nearly anyone at any time), I see the realism much differently.
I never said Danks was a face of franchise player. Your reading comprehension skills are lacking. I was saying that he, like Jeter, have more value to their teams than others and value is what this thread is about.

As for Williams, he'll trade anyone to make the MLB team better which is why they are so thin. He didn't want prospects, he wanted MLB talent. I imagine Hahn will be the same way. Jocketty is the same way and he came from the White Sox organization.

His contract is 1.1M in the game and in the roster set I'm using he's rated fairly decently (3 year weights). Not sure about Gose for above reasons although he makes more sense.

Do you guys think if JJ is doing well-ish at the deadline, he could be flipped for Rendon straight up? I really like the sound of that for both sides tbh.
