Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Finished the regular season in year 1 of my Tigers franchise. My 92-70 record was good enough for the Central Division crown and third best record in the majors behind the Angels and Braves. Didn't skip a single game, though I did play a couple and ended up simming them to the end when they got out of hand. Worth noting that Verlander (19-9, 2.68 ERA, 258 SO) finished #2 in AL MVP voting and won the Cy Young.
I play the Yankees in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, with the winner of our series taking on the winner of the Red Sox (defeated Mariners in Wild Card game) vs. Angels series in the ALCS. Pretty excited. I went 4-3 against the Yankees in the regular season, and I even swept them in NY back in (I believe) August. I struggled majorly against the Red Sox and Angels though.Last edited by timbeau0805; 05-09-2013, 05:39 PM.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
I just had one of my worst pitching, best hitting, most frustrating, and satisfying games ever.
Pirates vs cubs. Edwin Jackson & John Lamb starting
Bottom 1st, Hosmer hits a double to score Crocker. Followed by a double from Garret Jones to score Hosmer. 2-0
Top 4th, Cubs score 1 in the top. 2-1
Bottom 4th, Alex Presley hits a solo homer to get the run back. 3-1
Top 7th, Cubs score 4 on 4 hits and a walk. 5-3
Bottom 7th, Hosmer hits a 2 run homer to tie the game back up. 5-5
Top 11th, Cubs score the go ahead run on a single by Brett Jackson scoring Chad Tracy who got a pinch hit double earlier in the inning. 6-5
Bottom 11th, with 2 outs Rick crocker singles to CF. Then steals 2nd. Next pitch is inthe dirt and gets away from the catcher. Crocker advances to 3rd. Jose Tabata walks. Eric Hosmer singles to score Crocker. And Tabta is thrown out at 3rd to end the inning. 6-6
Top 13th, Cubs score one. 7-6
Bottom 13th, Starling Marte walks. Jarrod Dyson Bunts for a hit. Rick Crocker sacrifices. Marte to 3rd. Dyson to second. Jose Tabata hits a ball that the SS gets to on the outfield grass. Throw is late to 1st. Marte Scores to tie it up. Homser hits a ball off the plate that the pitcher gets to quickly and throws Dyson out at the plate to end the inning. 7-7
Top 14th, Cubs score 2 to make it 9-7
Bottom 7th, Jose Alvarez walks, Walker flies out, Presley flies out, Gabby Sanchez pinch hits for Marte. Hits double to left. Alvarez to 3rd. Jarrod Dyson Reaches on an error by Darwin Barney. Alvarez scores. 9-8. The rookie Rick Crocker (who never played in the minors) hits a 1-1 pitch off the wall in right center to score Dyson and Alvarez and win the game. 10-9Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Just finished a 3 game sweep of the ALDS! Red Sox over Angels...
First game I had Buchholz vs Weaver, Buchholz pitch magnificently going 8 strong, 8Ks and allowing 4 hits, one being a solo HR to Pujols but that was it... Weaver pitched nicely but he gave up a HR of his own, only it was a 3-run shot off Saltalamacchia's bat... Victorino followed up with a solo shot of his own and that was all she wrote... 4-1 I had Tazawa pick up the save...
Game 2 was more interesting it went to the 10th inning to finish it. Jonny Gomes starred in this showdown between Jon Lester and CJ Wilson as Gomes hit a solo shot off Wilson. The Angels had the lead going into the 7th but I came back to tie it. We went into the 10th, Bailey shut the door in the top half and Iglesias opened it in the bottom with a double in the right field gap then Victorino flew out which got Iggy to 3rd but an errant throw from Trout gave me the opportunity to sneak in for the win!
Final Game I wasn't feeling it at all, Dempster vs. Hanson. Neither guy pitched well they both gave up 6 runs through 4 IP... Through the offensive battle Ortiz hit a solo shot and Bradley Jr. came through with a 3-run shot of his own. Ellsbury tripled and Pedroia doubled him in, in the 8th it was 8-6 Sox until Ianetta smashed a solo HR off of Doubront to make it 8-7. Then had Uehara and Hanrahan come in to slam the door shut and close out the series. Red Sox win in 3!
Notes: I have to give a big thanks Trout as odd as it might sound. In the first game he made a bad decision to round third and head home where he inevitably was tag out by a mile. Then in Game 2 he took another base-running chance and went to 3rd base where he was tag out, both were huge plays. He went 1 for 13 in the series striking out 7 times! I also hit him once and he stole second so touche! Another big reason I won in 3 was my bullpen, pitching perfect with exception to Doubront but he's in my rotation so he doesnt really qualify as a reliever lol
Salty is leading the Playoff MVP voting with a .455 AVG 1 HR & 4 RBI. Middlebrooks is also hitting .455 while Victorino is hitting .357 with a HR. Gomes is hitting .500 with 1 HR in one game. Ortiz and Bradley Jr. also homered each...
Final Note: Pujols' homer off of Lester was absolutely crushed, 446ft to be exact! wooow lol (it was quite impressive)Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Last night I did it, I threw a perfect game with Chris Sale. I am playing on veteran with a few adjusted sliders but it's still not an easy feat. It was my 6th game of the season and against the Mariners. I am now 4-2. The 2 losses were bullpen and closer collapses so saying my sliders are too easy really doesn't fit the bill as how I got a perfecto. I will say I do need to change some sliders because I hit too many home runs but anyway on to the game.
Started out with an easy 1st inning and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st thanks to 3 singles and then a 3 run homerun from Alexi Ramirez. Later on Paul Konerko added a 2 run home run to add to the lead. That was his 8th of the season....yes I know, I need to change some sliders since I have so many. Problem is I hate to change them too much and then struggle to score. After a few innings I tried not to think of a perfect game or no hitter but it's hard not to as each inning passes. By the 5th Sale was getting more confident and I was striking out guys with high 4 seem fastballs. ended up with 13 strike outs, most of them in the 7th, 8th and 9th inning. I was never in much danger of walking anyone but had a few batters where I started with 2-0 counts due to either missing my mark with the meter pitching and another from bad calls from the umps. I forget now but I may have had one 3-2 count but got the out. The final out was an easy fly ball to center field. I almost blew it by almost too casually moving Rios to the ball marker and wasn't completely under it. I was just enough though to make the catch and preserve the perfect game.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Defeated the Yankees in game 5 of the ALDS, 3-0. Verlander threw a CG, giving up only 4 hits, walking no one and striking out 6 batters. Went on to defeat the Angels (who swept the Red Sox in the ALDS) 9-2 in game 1 of the ALCS, too.
I'm hoping that I meet the Giants (who are going at it with the Braves in the NLCS) in the World Series (should I get there) so that I can get some kind of revenge. :PComment

REDSOX SEASON MODE
My franchise should be called "slip, sliding, away". Im currently 11-and 22. At one point I thought I had turned a corner and proceeded to win 5 straight. since then Ive gone a dismal 1 and 7.
Poor Base running has cost me at least 5 games. Poor fielding has cost me a few games. and then there's the managerial decisions when it comes to pitching. Those decisions so far have cost me about 4 games also.
I've done bone-headed things like bringing in a left handed reliever when my right handed starter has dominated the game, but ran out of gas. The logical thing would be to bring in another right or use the lefty in a set up situation. Also bringing in the closer, when the reliever had everything under control has cost me 3 blown saves.
All in all I would probably be a .500 ball club or slightly better if it wasn't for dumb mistakes.
as usual I was luke warm with this game, but now Im loving it. I plan on doing the 162 games so far Im a about 4 games behind the actual schedule. but will paly a few double headers Sat and Sun night.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Just finished Game 2 of the ALCS against the Tigers (Im the Red Sox)
Game 1 was a good one, I faced Verlander and decided to oppose him with John Lackey in case I lost then I would still have Buchholz and Lester. Well I actually managed to win! Tigers took an early 2-0 lead in the first but with patience, timely hitting and luck, I got to Verlander for 4 runs in the 5th. He was lifted to begin the 6th for Benoit then Dotel after him but I got to both relievers for 3 runs each as I used patience against there terrible command(they left pitches right over the plate). Alburquerque quieted me down but I still got a solo shot off him wit Saltalamacchia. Iglesias really came through for me when I had a 1 run lead in the 6th, he hit a 3-run opposite-field HR that barely got over the wall. Ellsbury tripled twice, Victorino did everything except homer (almost got that cycle!) and he even stole 2 bases. Amazingly enough Napoli and Iggy stole a base off Verlander, Ellsbury also stole a base and was named the Player of the Game. Cabrera was 4-5 with an RBI, I keep Fielder quiet with a single. Lackey only went 4+ innings with Doubront picking up the slack with 3+ innings, giving up 1 runs and K-ing 5. The Miller closed it out for the 11-4 win.
Game 2 was much closer, Buchholz vs Scherzer was a good matchup. Ultimately Buch gave up 3 ER and Scherzer gave up 2 ER. For me, Tazawa Uehara, Breslow and Hanrahan came in and pitch perfectly and that was big. For the Tigers Dotel blew it for them again with Smyly going 3 inning pitching very good only giving up a solo shot to the unstoppable Saltalamacchia. Pedroia came though with a 2-run single in the 7th which was huge since the Tigers put a 3-spot on the board in the bottom half. Hanrahan closed it out to eek out the win 4-3.
Notes: Pedroia is only hitting .217 but he has had some very timely hitting. Salty has been unstoppable with hit clutch hits and big home runs(3 in the postseason so far). Buchholz has pitched outstanding threw his 2 starts and my bullpen has continued to prove how valuable they are. Iglesias had a huge night in Game 1 with a 4-5 night, 3 runs and 3 RBI and a HR, even stealing a base! Victorino is also showing his worth and proving why he deserves to stick around next season as a starter. Napoli hasnt hit for power yet but he is getting some nice hits(batting .400 AVG).
On to Game 3 at Fenway!Comment

April was a pretty good month. We are 15-7 tied for 1st place. No one got hurt at all. A few players are struggling. Both hitting and pitching. The new guys though have done pretty well. John Lamb is 3-0 . Gerrit Cole has the lowest ERA on the team at 3.20. And Rick Crocker after struggling the first 3 weeks has got his average up to .272 and has an OBP of .359. Gabby Sanchez hasnt gotten much playing time (lineup mistake on my part. Sorted out now). Atlanta looks like it is going to have an easy road the the playoffs.

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
ALCS Red Sox vs Tigers
Game 3 was an eventful one. Lester vs. Sanchez. Lester had a no-no through 6+ until someone finally got to him that ended with V-Mart blasting a 2-run HR off him. But that would inevitably be moot since I had an 8-0 lead at the time. Rewind, I jumped ahead early with a 2-0 lead but in the 5th(if I remember correctly) I had a 4 HR inning, yes 4!... Napoli (425ft) and Middlebrooks (420ft) went back-to-back on 2 pitches, then Salty almost followed them up with one but it fell short for a double. But then Iglesias (401ft) and Ellsbury (420ft) blasted one of there own. Not to mention all 4 HR were to dead center field, just crazy! Benoit relieved Sanchez in the middle of my HR mashing to no avail as he would give up 4 ER overall. Then Albuquerque followed him up to give up 2 ER of his own. Lester went 7 IP giving up 2 ER and Bailey closed out the final 2 innings. Red Sox win 8-2. Red Sox lead the series 3-0. Game 4 is next! (Verlander vs. Dempster with Detroit's season on the line)
Notes: Salty continued his rampant pace hitting 2 singles with a double. Victorino continues to show he still has speed with 2 more swiped bags.
This whole series has come down to the bullpens no matter how good Buchholz and Lester have pitched. Mine has been stellar while Detroit has been horrendous with exception to Smyly & Alburquerque. Coke, Rondon & Valverde have yet to make an appearance, which is kind of odd since this is the playoffs.Comment

<table><td bgcolor=#000000>
I dont even know what to say about May. Second game of the month Jarrod Dyson went down with a fractured shin. Expected to miss 1-2 months. He wasnt hitting very well but his speed is a game changer. Going into the last 7 games of the month we were 12-8. And 12 games above .500. We currently have a 7 game losing streak. And sit half a game out of 1st.
Pedro Alvarez decided to actually use his bat this month. He hit .192 in April. With 1 HR, 8 RBI, and a .269 OBP. In May he hit .354, With 8 HR, 15 RBI, and an OBP of .423. But Garrett Jones did terrible. Hit only 1 HR after having 9 in April. And his average has fallen to .240

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Currently on a 13 game winstreak with the KC Royals, taking me from 11 under to 2 over .500! Swept the Tribe twice, the A's and the Yanks. Went from 4th in the division to 2nd and 1.5 out of the wildcard!
Now at the All-star Break, we're hitting .261 as a team and our pitching has brought our ERA down to 3.76, which I'm currently trying to bring in someone to help lower that stat before the deadline.
All the big name players have really stepped up during this streak, with Hosmer and Butler batter .311 and .318 respectively.
Surprisingly, acquired Louis Coleman has pitched 8.2 innings of shutout baseball picking up 6 Holds in some really close games. Holland and Bud Norris have also really started to turn around.
Should be a really exciting 2nd half of the season!Comment
