Started the regular season a few days ago and am almost done with April. I am the Astros playing 1 and simming 5. I believe we are 9-15 and my hitting has been pretty bad. My pitching though has been surprisingly good. I will play my next game in a little while and give more info then.

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Last night I was down 4 runs heading into the 9th inning of my season (fantasy drafted league).
I got a double, then lined out, then a single to score 1 run and then a walk and a pop out.
2 guys on, down 3 with 2 outs in the 9th inning and I brought in Matt Joyce against a righty (Parnell from the Mets).
BAM! 3-Run homer to tie it!
And then Jose Bautista hits a 2-out, 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 11th inning to beat me. Wow, what a game. One of the best games I've played in.
Then, of course, it's storming outside and the power goes out before I can save....so I gotta play it again tonite. WTF, that was one game I actually didn't mind losing.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
I went to All Star default all around in a test with the Reds, and man am I getting smacked around.
I think my team ERA is in the high 4s, but in the games I've played myself, I think it's closer to 6!
Has anyone had good success pitching on AS default, and if so, what are some of your strategies.
Right now I'm sitting at 4-8.Comment

No, I'm using Classic because I like to keep the screen clean.
I think I like the setting for the most part, but I'm giving up 10+ hits per game easily and am having some trouble staying out of the ridiculously big 5+ run inning.
Could be the pitching staff, though. I think CIN has some good arms, but they're hardly invincible. Plus they play in a hitter's park.
Still, strategic points are welcome if you're working with AS default in your franchise.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
I'm playing a Minnesota Twins franchise. Keeping it as realistic as possible. As of Aug. 11th, our record is 61-56. 1 game back of the Tigers, in a tie for second Wild Card. Have played every game. Didn't make any trades at the deadline because couldn't find a good deal to improve team. A few notables for the season: Morneau is tearing up the league. .359ba, 26hrs, 79RBI. But Mauer has struggled hitting only .248. Willingham went on 60 day DL after starting out hot. has 16 HRs Hicks started very slow but has rebounded hitting .294 with 9 HR. called up Gibson 2 months into the season and he is 8-1 with 2.19 era. Vance Worley is 9-11. Have both Sano and Buxton playing AAA since All-Star break. Sano is tearing it up, hitting .299 with 6 HRs and 32 RBI in 37 games. Buxton is hitting .261 and 10 SB.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
It's been a while since I did any kind of update. I am fast approaching the All-Star break. In fact i am playing in my series against KC (just like IRL) and my Yankees are 2.5 games in front for the wild card and 5.5 games out of first in the AL East behind the dreaded Red Sox.
I made a big trade with SF sending Ivan Nova for Tim Lincecum Straight up. A gamble as both had expiring contracts but I believe I can get Lincecum back to glory as a second ace behind CC and have Pineda and Hughes and after him. I expect to lose Kuroda and Andy (maybe try ti keep Andy for one more year). I have some decent young arms in AAA and will see if Phelps can transition to a 5th starter for me as well. Lincecum has come on in his last two starts for me striking out 17 in his last 2 games going 1-0 with a sub 2.00 ERA. He is coming on and my training is helping as well. Manny Buelos also was called up for long relief and made a spot start and is pitching extremely well.
Hafner landed on the 60 day L with a torn shoulder.....bummer as he was hitting well.
Vernon Wells is solid. Hitting .260 with 11 HR and 30 RBI's
Jeter, Grandy and Tex are all back from their injuries while A-Rod is out for the season. I have platooned nunez and Youk at 3rd. Jeter is struggling, Grandy is on fire and Tex has been up and down.
Cano is 4th in HR's and RBI's and second in BA. Pineda is pitching stellar and actually in the Cy Young voting thus far.
I will post mid season stats and standings as soon as I get to the All-Star Break.
Loving this franchise big time. The biggest surprise is the Oriloles are really struggling and injuries have killed them. The Blue jays are coming on though behind me in third place.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 07-09-2013, 11:19 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

How is Lincecum pitching in your franchise? He'd be a great story if he could turn it around and regain his form from 2 years ago. That's a tough park to do it in, though--not nearly as pitcher friendly as SF.Comment

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Just started off in my Nats franchise - currently 19-10 (I believe, game not open) and broke an 8-game win streak with a 6-2 loss.
Pitching has been solid at the top two (Strasburg, Gonzalez) but from Zimmerman on down, it's been a crapshoot and I'm about to throw Dan Haren off the top of the Washington Monument - don't know what it is with him - guess his H/9 is too low for how I like to pitch. Bullpen is pretty solid and I'm loving using Henry Rodriguez.
Bryce Harper is totally stuggling right now...under .220 in BADenard Span of all people is giving me the most success with a .419 in the first month. Wilson Ramos has 5 HR already (Harper only has 4 D: )

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
Well his last two starts (both at home) were very good abliet short. He lasted 5 innings in one and 6 innings in the other. Very high pitch counts due to deep counts. But a ton of K's. He is still young, has a live arm and is an "A" potential. I am personally looking forward to making him a great comeback story in my franchise. Nova was pissing me off giving up a ton of dingers and I felt...time to move him for another young pitcher with high potential. I scoured the trade block and Lincecum was one that was very intriguing. Plus I like his moxy. So I pulled the trigger. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
I've been doing a fantasy draft each year since the Show came out. I select a different team each year and I play all 162 games + playoffs, every pitch. I record all of my stats, awards, results, etc. at the end of the season. I never do any trades, I just try and draft the best team I can and try not to take any players I've had in previous seasons.
I usually play for awhile before drafting so I can get the sliders to where the games are a challenge for me and the stats are pretty close to realistic. Here's the team I drafted this year (25 man roster). Let me know what you think of my draft....

Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread
So I am almost done in my first year of my Atros chise. There have been some dissapointments and some surprises this year:
Disapointments:
Jose Altuve: .249/7HR/58rbi's
Matt Dominguez:.238/13HR/54rbi's
J.D. Martinez: .196/4HR/18rbi's
Surprises:
Carlos Pena: .252/27HR/78rbi's
Chris Carter: .267/29HR/91rbi's
Robbie Grossman: .313/3HR/13rbi's
We are 72-84 which is a great record compared to the 100+ loss predictions. Only 6 games until the regular season ends and I am ready to see what I can to in the offseason.Comment
