Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
RTTS commentary volume is not locked.
The lock you see is for volume for a 3D TV only
And it wouldnt be done anyway. There is no commentary in RTTS that does not involve your player.Comment

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification about the 3D TV only.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
I understand where you guys are coming from. And honestly, I really dont care either way. Im just trying to explain the thought process behind it.
To give you that on field feel, but still give you SOME of the commentary.
Russell said they couldnt add an on/off option because there was already too many options in that mode.
Apparently, that response was too offensive to some.
This isn't a minor tweak that the implemented, it's a major shift in a mode that for many of us, is the only mode we use.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
Actually, you could please everyone quite easily, by making it an option to turn commentary off or on.
I was actually planning on trying to play a full length career this year, and attempting to break the career homerun record with my created player. I had a whole backstory written up for my player and was going to make a thread here about him and his quest to become the new career homerun king. Since playing through 20+ seasons of games would take a very long time, I was going to turn fielding and baserunning opportunities off so I could focus just on hitting. So I would be missing out on any specific player sounds that only happen in the field and on the bases anyway.
For me, the entire mode feels eerie and awkward without audio commentary, and stat overlays when I walk up to bat. I was definitely NOT one of the people who hated or was tired of the commentary. I really enjoyed hearing the commentators talk about how I've been hitting lately when I come up to bat, or talk about the pitches as I bat. Now, the entire mode is being played basically in silence. I know there is some player chatter, and I can hear the sound effects more now like the pop of the catcher's mitt and slide sounds, but the lack of commentary while I am playing makes the mode boring for me. I no longer want to play a career with my player, when there is so little in the way of presentation.
I am upset because this series has always been great about not removing old gameplay options when new ones are introduced. When pure analog hitting was added, we didn't lose the option to use button hitting. When pulse pitching was added, we didn't lose meter. I watched the RTTS developer video and was crazy excited for the changes, but I never assumed that turning commentary back on if we wanted it would NOT be possible. That commentary is already in the game. It was a design choice to remove it from the mode. I'm not going to debate whether it was a BAD design choice or not, because it seems some people do actually like it. But it's pretty clear from this thread that a lot of people do not, and not giving players the option to choose how they want to play the game seems to go against everything Sony has done with this game over the years.
I've been playing this series since 2008, and this is the first time I've felt like the developers are forcing players to play a certain way, rather than allowing us to choose. And based on what Ramon wrote earlier in this thread, they don't seem overly concerned with the fact that a lot of us don't like this change. I'd consider myself a very loyal fan of this series, and a big part of that is because the developers have always tried to listen to fans, and given us a ton of ways we can enjoy the game, but this situation feels like it runs counter-intuitive to that, and that really bothers me.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
As someone who has been playing RTTS before it was called Road To The Show, I find the change refreshing. The big scarey word there is CHANGE, something most people don't like and I can sympathies with that. However if you actually watched/listened to the dev blog on RTTS they made no mention of having commentary like previous years so that should have been your clue there was no option. I have never thought to turn off commentary in previous years as it was what I was accustomed to and honestly how many more times can you hear the same lines? You could argue better commentary is needed and I don't disagree but how long until that would get stale and hear the same lines over and over?
It's stupid silly how big of a deal this is when you were not led on in anyway that you could change this to the old presentation. Your assumptions were false because you assumed, because they leave options in all the time, that this would stay when they made a point about changing RTTS to being different from other modes as well as previous years. This mode is not perfect, nor is it completely true to life but then this is also a Video Game so it can't be completely true to life. Over the next couple titles this mode will improve from it's changes this year and will become better overall as with any big change.
This mode needed a change and it got one, SCEA is one of the very small amount of devs who never seem completely satisfied with any mode and probably even on shorter list of devs who actually listen to their community. You may not of asked for this change but the mode needed something fresh to it. The only issues I personally I have with it is the lack of variety in what is shouted by couches, lack of communication between players and the cleats on the dirt. The Woosh sound is just a minor annoyance and I dunno why it was necessary for it to be there but it is.
Sorry for the long read, these are my two cents.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
It isn't that I find it offensive, I just find it a poor choice of words. There are a number of new "choices" that the developers put in, not the consumer. So to say that "there are already too many choices as is" isn't a fair thing to say. The consumer didn't put them in this corner, they put themselves there.
This isn't a minor tweak that the implemented, it's a major shift in a mode that for many of us, is the only mode we use.
Well you did say you were offended.
The change to RTTS this year I think is a good one. The mode was getting stale. Time to revamp it.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
That's your opinion, and is clearly not shared by everyone here (though it is shared by SOME). And regardless of whether they changed the commentary or not, they DID do some other things to revamp it, with the new hit cameras, new baserunning controls, being able to look at base coaches, the sim screen when your player is not on the field, etc.
All of that stuff, I think is great. But with the exception of the sim screen, I believe all that stuff can also be turned back OFF if the player desires.
Taking away the player's ability to choose how he/she wants to play is what I take issue with. I have no problem with them trying to innovate and add to the mode, but a lot of us had no problem with the commentary and feel the mode is incomplete without it.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
There are 300,000 members here on OS. How many of them play The Show? I would guess 50K
We are not the only ones playing this game and this isnt the only forum to share feedback.
And more people wanted the change than didnt.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
I will quote Russell when I say, OS barely represents 5% of the MLBTS sales.

Then we get told the mode has too many options already and so we're stuck without something none of us wanted rid of.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
Whether that's the case or not (and there's really no way you can say that with any certainty), all I'm saying is we should be able to choose for ourselves whether we want that change or not. If all of that commentary still exists in the game (since it's used in other modes) there's really no good reason to not allow us to decide for ourselves.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
Well Russell said it himself. So unless he's a liar or pulled that out of his yoohoo, I would say that SCEA does in fact know that for a certainty.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
Though i think they might be realising people are peeved as there are many bug reports on TSN purely on the lack of commentary in RTTS.Comment

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
A quick look at theshownation forum shows there are a lot of people that do not like the change. I'm not sure what the percentage of players there make up people that actually buy and play RttS as compared to here but there does seem to be a growing sentiment of people that would rather have the option of the commentary on or off. If they (SCEA) did a polling in several different locations, they would probably get something close to 50/50 split in regards to that.
I think the main issue I'm reading from people is that they want the option to close.est 1978

Re: Change New RTTS Presentation
To me it just feels like a cheap shortcut they took. No one was asking for commentary removed, what people wanted was revamped, improved commentary, much like the 2k series.
People have been complaining about the commentary for years, and this feels as if they are just testing the waters to see how far they can push it before just scrapping the audio completely.
Really, what is there to like about hearing your fielders yell "c'mon, let's get his guy," "pull two here," "get 'em" ad nauseum? Couple that with the very unrealistic zooming/swoosh, and you just have a very unplayable mode.Comment
