    Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

Why would you add names to the speech options, but then remove commentary from RTTS? That sounds counter-productive.

And (I haven't played RTTS yet), why remove only PART of the commentary? Were there really people who wanted Vasgersian removed from RTTS? Couldn't you just lower each commentator's volume in the menu?

That would've solved the problem and NOT created a new one.

None of this decision makes sense. I, for one, am disappointed.

      Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

In the most respectful, "to each his own way" I can, I'd like to give my two cents on this.

The Show strives to be a simulation game. That is why you have the option to watch every pitch of every game throughout your career in this mode. The goal, as I understand it, is to make you feel like you you are a major league ball player. This year focused on the on field experience, something that this mode lacked in recent years. Is it realistic to see broadcastpresentations while you, as a minor leaguer are on the field? It is not.

Now, the valid argument can be made about why there exsists any commentary at all and my guess is that if you ran through an entire game with no way to transition from event to event it would be VERY boring and alot of folks would lose interest really quickly.

The truth is that the commentating does focus on your accomplishments but as the dev video on RTTS said, when you are on the field, just like in real baseball that is the focus. What is going on here is a move towards more immersion through focus on onfield gameplay, honestly something that should have been happening from the start, and for me it works nicely. I get sounds of the game plus some pub for my specific accomplishments.

It is hard on these forums because they lean so "sim" heavy so I would imagine the folks who enjoy the changes see it as a step closer to simulating an actual pro baseball career. My guess is that for those who do not like it, with the upmost respect, I would say you may want to adapt or go back to 12 because you are likely going to see an even more heavy lean toward this in the future.

The irony in all of this is that they claim all these changes are to make you feel more like you're playing baseball, but honestly ive never felt more out of touch in this mode.

The unrealistic sounds of cleats just mashing around the field, sliding sounding like a whooshing sound, the random interruption of a commentator about something that may or may not have to do with your player, the new screen that shows you what is going on (but it all happens so fast you end up not paying attention to it) and lets not forget the random swooshing in and out of the broadcast booth.

I also love how the game randomly zooms into the character as if some sort of commentary is about to take place, and then it's just silent.

They can talk about all the people who like this, but this is the biggest stumble the show has ever taken in regards to RTTS. Fitting Cutch is on the cover, because much like the Pirates, this had the chance to start strong out of the gate, but then fell fat on its face.

          Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

When I tried at the CD event I initially thought a bit weird not hearing much commentary... just because I was so used to having it (even if I wasn't paying attention). ... but hopefully you guys take more time to discover the ambiance of actually playing out in the field by focusing more on what you might have considered noise before (from crowd, umps, coaches, etc.)....

I think the new change really shines when you take time to play each game, not just skipping though everything...

To each his own, but it's so weird that there has been so many complaints about the commentary in The Show and now it's partially gone some people feel it's essential. Life indeed is a total disappointment, hhahaaha.

I just use Music Mode. One of my favorite features of the show has always been the customizable soundtrack. I just tweaked the sound effects down a few notches and the commentators all the way up. You can still hear them fine when they do speak. It helps to break up those long moments of silence. I just pretend my player is wearing some ear buds while he is playing.

Pro baseball players can't hear the announcers describe the game while they play. In an effort to give us a more realistic on-field experience SCEA has (for the most part) changed RTTS audio to a simulation of what the players actually hear while playing. I think it's a great idea.

I think that they should either leave the commentary in or take it completely out. Professional players don't listen to what sounds like a 1970's quality radio while playing either. I for one would like to have had the option to hear commentary. Everyone enjoys different things, so why not have a with or without option to satisfy everyone?

This direction made me try out RTTS for the first time!

                  I love it.

I love the RTTS experience however the commentary while sparse it seems to me disconnected from whats going on. All of sudden the announcer says something but without any kind of emotion or barely connected to the game, its like well I need to say something about this player and so here it is, it just seem kinda odd they way they presented the commentary this way, this is really my only problem, otherwise RTTS you rock.

Holy crap, talk about complaining. This thread is interesting to say the least.

I think it is awesome. Seriously guys, if you want more realalistic, then that is what they gave you. Guys don't go around in real life with little radios and ear buds so they can hear there name being called when walking up to the plate or hear their walk off home run called.

I think they did a great job, I think the coach yelling in some situations and the sound of sliding into the dirt are great touches. Haven't had an outfielder call me off (I am an infielder in my RTTS) but I am sure that is awesome too.

                      Great job SCEA!

Oh, and just thought I'd ask, doesn't everyone hate the commentary? Now they take it away for a mode that is trying to make you feel like you are in real life and you complain? People are funny.

Just as I feared....seems we are stuck with the new presentation mode...sucks. This absolutely kills the mode for me.

Rtts is the only mode I've played since picking up my first The Show game in 09. Guess I'll have to start liking franchise mode or just buy The Show every 2/3 year.

                          Re: Change New RTTS Presentation

We live in a world where every single moment of every single sports game we watch has commentary, it's so engrained in our consciousness that when we play a video game rendition we expect commentary because that's what we get on TV. When it's taken away from the mode we enjoy most, we'll naturally complain because it's a necessary part of our sports psyche.

Sure, some people love having no commentary, but they had that before, because there was an option to mute the commentators. To not give us an option to at least have commentary during ab's just seems a shortsighted oversight to new design choices. How many casual players will stop playing RTTS because of it and never say a word because they don't know about OS or TSN?

RTTS is a popular mode because it allows us to fulfill our own sports dreams and in almost all my sports dreams there's someone commentating the great moments. Think of all those historic moments you watch on youtube or they trot out on ESPN, all of them have commentary to ratchet up the emotion and intensity.

RTTS is not an exact representation of a MLBer's life on the field, because it's a video game, if it was, there would be no commentary, no cut-scenes, no scorebug, we'd be playing in first person and there would be no opportunity to sim games or ignore facets of the game.

One thing I don't like is not seeing my batter walk up with no stat overlay. I know it pops up during the AB next to the score bug but I want to see it when I'm walking to the plate.

Minor gripes for a great mode, but like we all say in baseball it's the little things that matter the most.

I think that they had to eliminate most of the commentary so they could add the super annoying "whooooosh" sound.......

As has been said, in years past, if I wanted to get rid of the commentary, all I had to do was turn the sliders down. I appreciate what they tried to do, but the mode now feels flat and boring. We should have been given a choice.

What I don't like even more is the constant transition from crystal clear sound to it sounding like it's in a tunnel. Someone described it right when they said "1970's radio". I always use headphones with the game, and between the "whooooosh" and constant transitions of audio quality, it's almost unbearable.

I've also noticed that I can barely hear my walkup music and my custom stadium music effects. I had no problems with any of that last year. I have to basically put everything else at 50% to hear it.

By the way, what was the point of adding the new walkup choices when all we can see is the back of our player at the plate? And even though I have chosen to wear my sunglasses "always", I've only seen them make an appearance one time so far.... and I've played plenty of day games.

I don't generally play RTTS (usually on play Franchise), but I have enjoyed it in the past and enjoyed it.

I haven't tried it yet this year, but if this is the direction that they're taking the presentation, then there should be more of an emphasis put on other on field sounds, like your teammates. Ok, if there aren't announcers, then you should be able to hear your teammates and coaches being more vocal. That could make the big moments of the game feel more emotion. Coaches encouraging or criticizing if you make a poor decision or are in a slump. Little things that would put you closer to the actual on field experience. You could hear little conversations between your runner and the 1st baseman when you're on 1st.

That would put you way closer to the field and immersed without the commentary. Just my 2 cents.
