Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
I think it does get more severe the older the player is, never really bothered to check though... Some guys hold really well and they all seem to be 35 - Rodney, Vogelsong, Westbrook, Halladay, Dempster... these guys only drop ~6 points... so yeah, you're probably on to something here...So they get whacked twice? I am liking the progression/regression. Maybe not as extreme, I'm wondering if it is tiered? 35 hit, 36 bigger etc...
Good thing about progression is there is not a flood of 99's in the league. I am in 2018 and there is 15 (99) players actually 2 less than the beginning.
There needs to be more higher rated RP with decent potential in the draft though, The league has almost no relief pitchers on a ML squad in the future.
I posted some results in the Mariners OSFM thread... Thoughts on players like Smoak still progressing in their late 20's? I thought there was a hard cap this year?Last edited by seanjeezy; 03-10-2013, 03:12 PM.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

I've seen progression up until 32. I don't quit get the regression now, unless its a bug, Trout starts to regress at 27 and by 28 gets more severe. He is a 96 at 27 and an 88 at 28.Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Carlos Martinez was regressing after 2016, went from a 94 to an 89 (and he had a decent year) but at the same time OT and zunnio kept progressing well past thatComment

If Trout is regressing in his "prime" years, that's an issue. They've really screwed this system up.Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Do you guys feel the progression/regression system would be better/acceptable if the increase and decreases were capped at like 6 points either way max?
seeing a guy drop 20 points in 1 year seems really extreme who thought that was a good idea?
Beyond that the drops should not be in every category but in categorys that get worse with time like fielding, and a little bit of power. Something like plate discipline shouldnt really change imoComment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
If he does every time you sim it then that would be wierd, but if its just a random thing i kind of like that. The best system would be tieing the rating changes to sim stats but it would take a major overhaul to do that this year im sure. Hope they can tone things down a littleComment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
same here
I know soriano is old and all but dropping down 15 points is way too much especially during the season
He's also practically untradeable because of this same reasonComment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
From my experience the players are untradeableCan anyone comment more on how the overall rating affects the CPU?
Even if a player like Jeter still performs well, if his overall drops significantly how does this affect the CPU in terms of trades, FA, lineups, MLB/AAA/AA rosters, etc.
If it uses the individual ratings this isn't a big deal, but if the CPU uses the overall for a lot of its AI decisions I can see why some would be upset by this.
I had Carlos beltran at 79, I couldn't even get a D potential player in a straight up tradeComment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Uggla had a good year and actually went up a point for me at 33 years old. Halladay had a terrible year and went down a LOT, like 20 points. This was in my RTTS. It seems that performance affects ratings more than I thought.Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Not true. Simming seasons I was offered an A potential 73OVR picther and a B Potential OF for Soriano staright up when he dropped to a 77.Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
Yeah, I completely agree with that. First of all, if a young player has a breakout season, let his rating go up quite a bit. However, let his rating change during the offseason. If a young guy is rated 75, and winds up having a season where he hits .300 and has 30 HR and 100 RBI's, fine, let him go up to a 90 or so.Do you guys feel the progression/regression system would be better/acceptable if the increase and decreases were capped at like 6 points either way max?

But the regression thing just doesn't make any sense. I keep going back to A.J. Burnett because, one, I am a Pirates fan, and second, I think he is just a good example. He just came off of a superb year for the Bucs at 35, and is listed at an 84 in the Spring. Even if I do just skip spring, he starts out the season well, but as the season progresses, he just falls off the table and wound up with an ERA in the upper 5's each time I have simmed a season. He drops to 72! I could see him dropping to maybe an 80, losing a MPH or two off of his fastball or something, but this drastic regression thing just kind of ruins it for me.
Not that I loved the old system, but I still think I would prefer it compared to this.Comment

Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline
I like seeing how players perform so I know who to move aroundFor everyone complaining about the decline in Spring Training: Why? It is very easy to click "End Spring Training". I love the new system, but I wish that players would not rapidly decline or improve. Everyone keeps talking about Jeter so I will use him as an example. He should decline maybe 4 or 5 points throughout the season, and then decline maybe another 3 or 4 in the offseason.
I am pretty sure Potential does have a lot to do with this system even though a lot of you are saying that it doesn't.
I'm not saying this system is perfect, but it is better than anything we've had before in Franchise mode.Comment
