    Re: Franchise Player Ratings Decline

    If you simple skip spring training players will at least start the season at their full ratings. If you decide to play part of spring training, lets say half the ratings will only drop half. Make sure you hit end spring training and don't simulate the rest.

    For example if I skip spring entirely Dickey will still start the 2013 season a 95, if I play or sim spring he starts the season at 76. If a play or sim half of the spring and then hit end spring training he starts the season an 85.

    Ending spring training without simming or playing it basically stops progression or regression during ST.

      So set you 25 man rosters and skip spring is what you're saying?

        How about in Year 2? Same thing?

        Do guys drop points twice in year 2, at the end of season AND the end of spring or just once at the end of spring?

          If you end spring training, no one drops. If you sim or play it, they'll drop. Once the season starts, they'll drop. After simming several seasons, I've found that the cutoff age is about 33. Under 33 and they'll improve as the season goes on. Over 33 and they dramatically drop. At 33 and they have mixed results.

            I just tested a season and charted some of the progressions. All of the players had the same overalls that they ended the first season with after S.T. in 2014. I did push the "end spring training" option though, so I don't know if that bypasses the ratings drop again in 2014 or not. But in my sim there wasn't any further progression/regression during 2014 S.T.

            I just charted some significant players, some young and some old, their starting overall and their overall to end the season.

            https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...nc&usp=sharing

            One thing I noticed, was that the individual ratings dropped similarly for every attribute for all players. For instance, Soriano saw a dip of -10 to -12 points in every individual attribute, resulting in a 14 point loss in his overall rating.

            Hope this spreadsheet helps give some more insight. It'd be cool if someone could start a franchise and chart the progression/regression of the same players just to see if it's randomized at all.

            Edit: All training was set to "auto" for the sim.

              Haha yeah I made a mini chart on pen and paper to show my roommate when he gets back. Somehow 36 year old Carlos Ruiz is an 85 overall but 37 year old Roy Halladay is a 79 overall. Meanwhile, 36 year old Chase Utley comes in at 64 overall and was cut from my AA team...

                This was one year in? Halladay was a 88 after one season in my sim, so there must be some randomizing involved. Which is good news.

                  I just skipped one with the Phillies and the following occurred.

                  Halladay 94 to 72
                  Cliff Lee 96 to 80

                  Both ended up behind Lannon and Cloyd

                  Michael Young 85 to 70

                  I tried to use the pitching training session that gives you like 3-4 attributes at a time to minimize the hit and didn't help at all. For Young I put it on contact and it didn't go down as much. Also, Utley was backing up Fransden.

                  I even tried to trade some of these guys before Spring Training and it was impossible.

                    Those declines don't look so bad. I hope they patch the Spring training drops, that is like double taxation. I sort of want to play spring training to decide which guys to use.

                    I'm looking at the pitchers.

                    Roy Halladay age 35 94 -> 88
                    Ryan Vogelsong age 35 86 -> 82
                    Ryan Dempster age 35 87 -> 77

                    I wonder if their season stats affect how far they drop? I assume that to be the case do you still have the save could you post those guys stats maybe?

                      That's interesting since in my sim, Halladay and Lee only dropped to 88 and 94 respectively. Maybe performance ties in? I didn't check their 2013 performance, and didn't save it gah!
                      EDIT: Sorry BrianU!

                      But I know in the case of Soriano, he had a poor 2013, hitting .220 and only 20 hr's so his drop-off was warranted.

                          If I only play season mode and always choose to "end spring training", will the ratings remain the same to start the season?

                          Does anyone know if player progression differs between season mode and franchise mode?

                          Thanks.

                              You may be on to something here. Both Halladay and Lee posted ERA's over 4 and Halladay's WHIP was 1.43!!

                                Well at least there might be some explanation for the drop-off in ratings, if it's warranted then it's hard to argue with.

                                I'm currently running another test with a more consolidated focus group. I'll post the results when I'm finished.

                                Edit: Unrelated, but I thought it was cool nonetheless. I'm running with everything set to "auto" for times sake. And I just got a notification that the Cubs had traded for Youkilis, Johan Santana and Tim Byrdak (seperate deals) at the deadline since they were in First Place (?!). I thought that was nice to see. Only issue was that the Yankees were also in First, but the Mets were 20 GB. Also, they finished with 70 wins in the first sim I ran so it's awesome to see a team contend surprisingly.

                                Edit's Edit: The Cubs finished in First Place 2.5 Games ahead of the Cardinals at 83-79. Got swept by the Dodgers. That last part sounds familiar. Grrrr.
