Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
The first pitch strike bug is:
RTTS
Every at-bat
Exhibition/Franchise
First at-bat of each inning + first pitch from the opponents reliever
These are the circumstances you should use the step out of box timeout button (D-Pad down) to get a realistic first pitch strike ratio.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
Finally got to do some testing in batting practice using the "good at bat" mode, here's some results. BTW, before playing I completely uninstalled the game and used the expert settings when re-installing, I then changed to a typical all-star set up using zone hitting.
First test facing the Royals Ervin Santana using default all-star sliders, I did not swing at any first pitches.
K = strike
B = ball
number = where in strike zone grid 1 would be upper left, 2 upper mid, 5 dead center, 9 bottom right...
AB 1: K5 4 seamer
AB 2: K7 4 seamer
AB 3: K8 4 seamer
AB 4: K6 4 seamer
AB 5: K7 4 seamer
AB 6: K2 4 seamer
AB 7: K4 slider
AB 8: K9 4 seamer
AB 9: K7 4 seamer
Although Santana threw all strikes, rarely were the pitches very good, most were borderline strikes on the black. Overall throughout each at-bat he kept up with this, pounding the strike zone throughout
Test 2: Using all-star custom sliders provided by Authentic/IL4T on the slider page and Jays pitcher Ricky Romero. Again over these next 18 at bats I did not swing at one first pitch.
AB 1: K5 4 seamer
AB 2: K8 4 seamer
AB 3: Ball High 4 seamer
AB 4: K5 4 seamer
AB 5: K5 4 seamer
AB 6: K1 2 seamer
AB 7: Ball High/outside 4 seam
AB 8: K7 12/6 curve
AB 9: Ball inside: 4 seamer
AB 1: K1 4 seam
AB 2: K6 4 seam
AB 3: K7 12/6 curve
AB 4: Ball inside 2 seamer
AB 5: Ball low 2 seam
AB 6: K1 4 seam
AB 7: K1 4 seam
AB 8: ball low/away 4 seam
AB 9: K5 4 seamer
Overall 66% strikes, a nice mix of pitches, but definitely fastball heavy but really just 5 pitches that I'd consider meatballs. Overall Romero had much less control than Santana you could definitely see why he walked 100+ last year
Still facing Romero, same sliders as above, the lone difference was that I swung twice, on the first and third pitches, singling on the first pitch and flying out deep on the third, I do not use guess pitch.
AB 1(swing): K1/5 4 seamer
AB 2: K4 4 seam
AB 3(swing) K8 2 seamer
AB 4: K3 2 seamer
AB 5: K9 2 seam
AB 6: K7 4 seam
AB 7: Ball inside 2 seam
AB 8: ball inside 12/6 curve
AB 9: Ball low 4 seam
first three AB's were get em over fastballs, two of which were nailed pretty good. From there he got cautious hitting three different corners in three straight AB's before going outside the zone for the final three. Here's Romero's complete breakdown after 27 at bats:
18 first pitch strikes
9 first pitch balls
17 four seam fastballs
7 two seam fastballs
3 twelve to six curveballs
For his career Romero is about a 56% first strike thrower, so where a bit high but obviously 24 pitches is in no way is a complete study, that would take about 300 AB. As it stands, a swing of just two pitches puts you in the acceptable range for this player.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I love spending 12 hours on Saturday testing sliders to try and correct this issue, only to find out that I wasn't crazy. I played at least 10 games in a marathon session on Saturday, and no matter what slider combo I used, the CPU was still throwing at a very high first strike percentage. Had I paid attention to the forums and found out about the workaround, I would've felt a lot better about my life instead of.....
I hope to get at least a game in tonight to test the workaround....but I really hope that the devs patch this very obvious issue.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I have been interested in what would happen if someone uninstalled the game and did this. If you can get around to it, all-star default with some swinging at pitches would be nice. The sample is just small there with only the one game without swinging. Since i have the download version, i would have to be pretty certain to test it out myself.Comment

I thought it was weird that I had hit like 5 lead-off home runs already.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I've tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, default sliders/All-Star. Still seem to always get a first pitch strike with the pitcher's primary pitch. Tried multiple games and it's always the same.
I did notice that even if you don't change any settings the game will still allow me to "Apply Settings". If I change settings to HOF then back to AS in exhibition, I see no change in first pitch of the innings, if I do this in good-at bat mode of BP I THINK I see a change occasionally. Would be nice if someone else could try it and confirm.
This all seems to me like the game is not recognising difficulty settings/going back to beginner (started my settings from experienced, not beginner) more then a logic issue. I don't see stepping out affecting pitching logic)
Nomo17k actually mentions something similar in the Community day thread and I've seen him post a few times in this thread.
"The first impression that I had with hitting at the CD event is that hitting had become AWFULLY EASIER for myself. I was always driving the very first pitch for an extra base hit, and wondered what happened. I have never juiced in my life. What I just had was Mountain Dew. It turned out my difficulty setting kept getting reset to the (much talked about) beginner's mode."(1-28-13 can't quote, mobile forum"
So Nomo17k did it actually say it had defaulted to beginner's mode, or was it more of a bug, just trying to eliminate it being either difficulty setting bug or an AI bug.
Sorry if the post is sloppy, forced to use mobile forum.PSN: Lynx2069
