I wouldn't say this new baserunning engine has ruined the game for me, but it definitely sucks when you have a guy with high baserunning ability and speed unable to score from second on a base hit. Heck, even if I hold L1 at the cracks of the bat I still get that stupid slowdown at times. Now I just stop the guy at third with less than two outs figuring he'll score on a sac fly or other ball in play. This feature definitely needs tweaking in 14.

Folks,
You do know that L1 is an advance all button, not a preloaded base option, right?
You have to actively hold L1 the entire way around the base to continue an advance. That is NOT preloading the baserunner.
Use the D-pad and X to preload for home. I have had absolutely no issues with stumbling around bases since I did this. Hell, watch your runner rounding first. UNLESS it is a high BRA runner on a ball hit in the air to the outfield, if you hold L1 you stumble around first every time.
Someone tell me they are preloading with the D-pad and still seeing this issue.

These are true, that you either need to preload with D-pad or keep holding L1 to round the base smoothly. However, I think the issue is that the command needs to be issued quite a bit earlier than reaching the specific base to avoid stumbling.Comment

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
That works for most situations except for the runner at second attempting to score on a base hit. The reason it does not work is because there is not enough time to tell him to go home. In most cases the runner is already past the point where it will let you send him home without getting caught on the base. It is an error and hopefully will be patched.Comment

That said, I have NEVER seen it when preloading a runner on first to go home. NEVER.
This makes me believe that the timing window to preload the runner from second to go home is way too small, and needs to be increased. Even if I preload the runner home IMMEDIATELY, I still get the slowdown.Comment

With a runner on second, and less than 2 outs, I preload the runner to go home on a base hit every time. And EVERY time, I have had the slowdown happen around third. EVERY time.

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
I had Matt Kemp on second and I hit a rope to center field. The slowdown rounding third happened to Kemp but he still scored because the outfielders were playing deep. After the play I watched the replay and analyzed everything. There was one out, and the third base coach was waving Kemp home the entire time.
This kind of disappointed me because I felt that under the same circumstances in real life, it would have been no different. Kemp would have been waved home, it's a no brainer. The only thing was that it wasn't a sure base hit. It was a rope that just made it passed the short stop. But I didn't notice Kemp make any kind of hesitation.
Still trying to figure it out.Comment

I'll have to try the button instead of holding L1, like I normally do.Currently Playing:

Re: Runners slowing down rounding third
Still seeing this with great base runners and hitting the buttons to send him home before the ball is out of the infield.
Most runners on second base take a deeper lead so that they don't have to loop around third, they are already there. In this game though, 85% of the time the runner slows down because Sony says that we aren't giving him enough time to make his loop.
This is the least I've played any version of the show since 08, and this is one of the big reasons.Comment
