if they were to get a new broadcast team in the future i would suggest Duaine Kuiper & Mike Krukow (Giants announcers and MVP 2005 announcers), the Mets broadcast crew, or the Phillies broadcast crew. All 3 these would be great additions, they call great games.

SCAE/989 is well aware of this fact, since they used to have Vin Scully call the games back in the day.
But this game definitely is evolving, and when the other presentation aspects attempt to "keep up" to the contemporary style of the game, the commentary still falls behind in that regard.Comment

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
It really doesn't matter who they have. The voices aren't the problem. They need to re-evaluate the way they write lines, and the way the entire system is built. No more event-line-event-line monotony. Commentate on the actual game.Comment

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
Agree. Fresh voices would help IMO. However I don't want the next team to have a ton of "OMG! Did you see that!!!!!!" moments as there's very few of those in an average baseball game. Now postseason play......I'm with you as there's big time pressure there. But I don't want to hear a guy wet his pants over stand up double or finely turned DP in July
One thing that no game has quite yet done is be incredibly dynamic. In other words, the game will always talk about the 2012 World Series matchup between the Tigers and Giants, but if you play your Brewers franchise and take them to the World Series against the Angels in 2013, you won't ever hear them bring that up if they play each other.
To save space, they're going to have to find a way to eliminate "specific" commentary, and fill it in with something generic and play Madlibs with the rest.
Here is an example... let's say that the game wants to access the team's performance in the past series. It calculates the numbers, recognizes it was a three-game sweep, and cues a "positive" script and fills in the variables:
Matt: "Well last series ____________ (commentator's name), the ____________ (team name) took care of the ____________ (other team name) in a ___ (number) game sweep at ________________ (stadium name). ____________ (starting pitcher name), ____________ (starting pitcher name), and ____________ (starting pitcher name) looked phenomenal and did what needed to be done."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Then the game gives Steve a bit of commentary, figuring out if there was an offensive standout, talks more about the pitchers, or finds something defensive-related.
Steve: "Yeah, but let's not ignore the offensive contributions by ____________ (batter name), who hit _____ (batting average) in the ___ (number) games and drove in ____ (number) runs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Then the game sees his offensive performance today and decides whether or not he is on par with everything.
Eric: "He is ___ (number of hits) for ___ (number of at-bats) so far today, so let's hope he can get back to form."
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not saying this is easy coding whatsoever, but what is good about this "zero-stitch commentary" is that it allows you to insert banks of lines and keep the conversation going throughout franchise, and it's not just recalling information that happened in 2012. Yeah, they have it a bit when they say that my player's "hitting woes continue by batting in the .230's early on," but what if I just acquired a new player? What if my home run went into the upper deck? What if my team just suffered a bad injury? What if the trade deadline is coming up? There are things that can help improve this commentary... but unfortunately it means completely starting over from scratch, something which I don't really think the team (or Matty V.) would be invested in doing.
And I know this thread was about Matt, but it seems to go beyond that if you're going to replace him. Plus, I think the one that needs replacing more than anybody else is the PA announcer. He sounds like he's speaking through a toilet paper roll, and is not the least bit engaging. I think it would be nice if they re-did the PA system in this regard.Last edited by Blzer; 03-08-2013, 04:14 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Geez that was coincidental. I thought the guys name was Hawk or something. When I lived in Chicago and watched the Cubs on WGN I would randomly see Sox games on and it was unbearable listening to a Sox broadcastGal 2:20Comment

Nobody ever said that. In fact, I'm not so much about "excitement" as much as I am about keeping good filler.

To me the best announcers are the ones who have the mix of energy at appropriate times as well as sharing stories, knowledge, and experiences in between pitches and at bats.NHL-Minnesota Wild
NHL-San Jose Sharks
MLB-Minnesota Twins
NFL-Minnesota Vikings
NCAAF-Michigan Wolverines
NCAAH-St. Cloud State Huskies

Re: Matty V thank you but it's over...
Honestly, it sounds just like the commentary of a real game. A lot of time, it's boring commentary in real life.
Most of the time, I don't even hear it. And it's the same when I'm playing The Show. It's just background noise. Once in a while I'll notice something they said, but it's just supposed to be ambient, not distracting.
I think it's fine the way it is; and it's one of the best commentaries in sports games.#24Comment
