Why are my players running away from the ball??

It happens at least 2-3 times a game. Just now Jose Reyes was running toward a ground ball then out of nowhere he stops and runs the opposite direction causing a base hit.

Perhaps you are pressing the stick in the wrong direction? The fielder starts in the right direction probably because of the fielding assist, but once your input kicks in he starts moving in the wrong direction? Just a thought.

This happens to me on fly balls multiple times in a game. Sometimes I make the catch, others not.. very frustrating regardless.

Someone should report this as a bug because it happens to me as well. I've played this game for yrs so it's not me. It has cost me runs and it cost me a base hit taking a no hitter into the 8th.

I've had this happen a lot recently. Mostly with the outfielders.

problem is the at least for me the outfielders first move is always back on balls hit to the gaps. So instead of the RF starting back and towards CF. Its just straight back towards right. It leads to not being able to control the fields right away and then takes longer for him to get going the direction he really needs to.

Yep I've had that same problem. You can point the stick in the right direction, but it's like a force field prevents your player from going that direction. I haven't seen it for a few games but it definitely happens on occasion.

It has happened to me multiple times also. The worst occurred when my third baseman ran away from a slow roller when he would have made the play. Instead my shortstop fired late and they gave him a hit. I pitched a one hitter that game with no walks, so basically it screwed me out of a perfect game.

I've had this happen to me once or twice myself. The fielder will make an initial move toward the ball and I will also be directing them toward the ball with the left stick. Then the fielder will suddenly run a few steps in a different direction before turning the right way again. I think it's happened with both controllers, but I'll try to pay more attention to that next time. It's just . . . odd.

this happens to me as well, i even bought a new controller, but it still happened, i think its a bug, cause when i make sure my stick is in the right direction my player vears away, it has cost me so many games.

Re: Why are my players running away from the ball??

I've had the same thing happen to me a few times when pressing the stick towards the ball while trying to field it. I don't recall this ever happening in previous versions of the game either.

It seems to occur when intervening with a fielding animation, causing the fielder to run wildly. I almost find myself letting the animation make the play and only run towards the ball if it's further away from my fielder. That does seem to help.

I've never seen this! Played multiple games, multiple controllers, multiple systems, settings, franchise, RTTS, quick game, etc. Never seen anything close to this! But if it's happening to as many people that are commenting than this could be a huge issue! Let's hope it never happens to me

I've also had this happen before. When I was trying to get a complete game with only 58 pitches for my SP one of my OF completely missed the play. I've seen a few infielders on hard hit balls also run away from the ball, or let them get through. One of the most annoying issues I have is that some players will just throw to the wrong base. Example, on a ball hit right at the pitcher I wanted to get an out at home vs 1B but CPU had him throw to 1st. My sliders are set to default.

Make sure you aren't pressing the analog stick in any direction before OR while the game transitions from "bat view" to "field mode" or whatever you'd call that... wait until after the camera fully turns around and you are assigned a fielder, before touching the stick.

                            See if it happens then.

Also make sure when you are trying to decelerate, you ease off the stick, and not just let it go, because if it snaps back to the center, the game might read that as a command in the other direction (because it snaps too far).

That's very helpful. I was thinking I was doing something terribly wrong, so it's nice to see I'm not the only one with fielding issues.

Out of curiosity, which fielding camera do you guys use if you're doing manual fielding?
