Ya, that's what I was so excited for and expecting when I picked up my copy of 13.

I was expecting more hit variety and better ball physics, but not a total reworking of the pitch speed and timing window.

    Game would have been perfect

agreed! so true! really hope the downward trend will be reversed with next years version, but ill for sure wait till we get some post release impressions until i purchase a ps4.

I agree with the OP, too.

I don't know what specifically, but its just became pretty stale over the years. (I played since '10)

Its a beautiful game - visually. The "bells and whistles" (SotS, animations..etc) are amazing. BUT the gameplay - which I feel is the most important is okay..almost seems scripted and boring. Again - I have been playing since '10 For example.....

...I understand in the last few innings there is going to be a comeback from the CPU. I know that on 0 - 2 not to swing cause the next pitch will be always wayyyy out of the zone. The errors - balls seem to sail over the head too often - which seem to happen more often during those late inning comebacks. Its definitely been more frustration because of this which takes away from the FUN FACTOR of the gameplay.

And the Presentation......Same as last year which was the same the previous year. Switching people in the booth doesn't help when it seems that they are so robotic.

But the Show Live was the biggest disappointment.....Nothing that was happening in real life was even mentioned while playing those games. Just like playing an exhibition game with somewhat updated line ups.

I think I need to take a break with this game for a while...which is kinda sad considering its not even the all star break.

In short...No. Although I did find MLB 12 to be a bit smoother.

No, not if I'm considering Beginner Mode, which I think is the single best addition this year. Of course, Beginner Mode is not for everyone, but I'll be 71 on August 2nd, and for people around my age, Beginner Mode is just what the doctor ordered.

However, the one thing that hasn't been improved and bugs me the most is auto fielding. If the game can control CPU fielders and make them play beyond their ratings, I don't understand why it can't control my fielders and do the same, or at least up to their capabilities, specifically infielders.

Of course that also means I spend an entire weekend staying up from 12-4am in the morning while my wife is sleep for every off-season.

So while I disagree that this game was disappointing, I could certainly see how someone would be frustrated with the things I mentioned above.
I wouldn't say 09 was the best. The new cam options were a welcome addition in 11 which was nearly identical to 12. I am trying very hard to like 13 intend to play it more going forward but it feels floaty and they messed up the hitting. I've heard the devs say the pitch speed was only tweaked a shade but it feels a lot slower to me.

I actually liked the old scouting system. I imagine if I bought the game I'd probably not like the new system.

BTW-I don't think you can vote on posts-just on threads.

I have to say no, but the only reference I have for comparison is MLB 2K11 that I bought on the 360 few years ago. Just for the fun factor and the time I spent playing the game, there's no denying that The Show 13 is one of the best baseball game I've ever played, and one of the best sports game too.

Maybe after 3-4 years of playing, I'll be like I'm with the NHL series and ask too much from the game, but I have a feeling it won't happen since The Show have that little thing that makes all game feel different.

12 was my first and I absolutely loved it, it was super realistic, challenging but rewarding, played it nonstop.

13 feels like a totally different game. Pitch speed, bat swing speed, timing windows all drastically changed. Feels like they fell into the trap of catering to those complaining about the difficulty and instead of creating a lower difficulty or developing a better training mode, they just fiddled with timing and speed until they broke the game.

I will be staying away from future versions of the show unless they revert back to the formula in 12.
I agree, last year I felt like I went into every game not knowing what I was going to get. Sometimes I would get a slugfest wih the final score being 10-9. Sometimes a pitchers duel, sometimes a blow out on either side. That kept it fresh, and every game feeling different. This year I feel like every game is the same. I score 1, they score 2, I score 2 they score 3 more, and every game turns into an all out slugfest with whoever is batting last winning. This is on All Star mind you. And that just makes the game stale in a hurry. I'm a month and a half into my season and I am so sick of it I don't think I can stomache to play another game. Glad I ended up buying The Last Of Us. Maybe that can occupy me for a while and I can get back into the mood for the Show. But for now, I just can't do it anymore. This was a classic example of "if it isn't brke, don't fix it."

It is a disappointment for me from stand point of stats and changing of the shoes. Style 1 this year is terrible. But I like the season opener package and post season package. After your 162 grind its now worth having to complete the task with post season presentation.

The series peaked in 2009. They've added features which are good, but I haven't found much that has been done in the way of adding the fun factor.

This years is by far the worst for a while in my opinion.

The progression system was untested (no way someone tested that over a full season and said "yeah, that's realistic") and is just ridiculous.

EVERY game is a slug fest over the level of Veteran.

Just done a franchise year and the majority of pitchers finished the season with losing records...Verlander, Sabathia, Felix, Kershaw all losing records and 5+ ERA's...

The stats system is broken. AA and AAA stats aren't generated properly.

Stats are also completely ignored. Players have been completely omitted from League Leaders and Awards sections. Miggy hit 46 HR's, 150 RBI's and doesn't appear anywhere. Had to look him up to see if he'd been injured all year. Couple of pitchers (including Ivan Nova with 20 wins) don't appear in the league leaders sections either.

The gameplay - in terms of forced walks where you can hit the sweet spot in the middle of a plate and walk a batter on 4 straight pitches, then followed by 3 or 4 hits in what the programmers have instaleld to make the CPU rally is just unrealistic. You can tell when it's coming and there's nothing you can do to stop the bleeding. CPU all of a sudden stop chasing and foul EVERY decent pitch off. This is the worst thing. The CPU score in bunches. I don't have single run innings against me. It's a 5 spot then nothing for the rest of the game.

Personally, I can't see that they bothered to test RTTS or Franchise modes. If they did, they should fire their testers. More about presentation now-a-days from developers rather than gameplay.

Could be worse though...EA could be the developers....

Some good points, BUT when it comes to the developers, SCEA are probably one of the best by listening to the community, reading the forum comments and (this is the impression that I get prior to each years release) sending a lot of people from this forum to playtest and give their opinions.

To me SCEA are passionate baseball fans and support their product throughout the year. The stuff that is brought up on this thread is actually pretty minute if you compare it with flaws with other games. I feel that '13 had more bugs in it than previous years versions, but the major ones were taken care of in a timely manner.

I said it before...its an amazing game - both visually and depth-wise, The gameplay has some flaws that become frustrating and it has just gotten a little stale for me over the years. That is why I am taking a break for a while.

But I have absolutely NO issues with the development team.
