Re: Does The Show Attract more Mature players?

i am 24. this is the greatest video game to date. "that which is like itself is drawn to itself" and i agree us fans of the show and baseball fans in general have an acquired taste and zest for life which is uniquely apparent on these forums and the show allows us to manifest that within ourselves, or for myself at least. i use a lot of baseball analogies for my own personal truths and idiosyncrasies.

Yeah I am a Atari 2600 pioneer. And I play statis-pro baseball. Play it with my son time to time as we will each pick a team and play a 7 game series.

Statis-Pro is amazing. I liked it better than Strato-Matic which is also a great table top game.

No doubt The Show is supreme, and this years game is the best yet.

It is a year round title. No other sports game is this deep. Only NBA 2K IMO is at the level of The Show.

We are a unique group of gamers. It is obvious in how we post about this game. And baseball is such a cerebral sport.

This is what I have always liked about gaming today--forums like this. I appreciate you guys reading my ramblings and sharing your own personal paths through gaming history. I'm showing this thread to my wife, as she is convinced there cannot be anyone anywhere with the passion I have for sports games. I told her a few years ago that I was gonna finally retire from computer gaming when MVP Baseball 2005 and the NBA Live Series seemed dead on the PC. She was the one that wanted a Blu-Ray disk player to include in our home theater system during a remodeling last year. So I asked my younger brother for advice and he suggested the PS3.
Then I got The Show and NBA2k13. Now there is no looking back. I'm now thinking about playing the NFL, NHL and the PGA. My only problem is not enough time. Real life does get in the way!

Re: Does The Show Attract more Mature players?

Checking in at 35 years old. The older I get, the more I like baseball. I grew up when the NES first came out and have been gaming ever since.

To me, baseball is more of an intellectual game than basketball or football, and that's why I like it more.

I also find the tenor of the baseball boards more to my liking. It seems like the general maturity level in The Show boards especially is quite high.

I think we all agree about the draw of this game. The more I play it the more I wonder why I even have a 360.

Re: Does The Show Attract more Mature players?

I think the average age for this game is definitely higher. I believe it's because it takes a great baseball mind to play the game. You see all of the threads on "comeback code" and what not. The reason is because a younger gamer will not figure out that they have to switch up how they play, resulting in them getting bored and frustrated so they never come back. What fun would a game be if you could just throw the same pitch to get someone out? None. Maybe when I was age 7-15, but not anymore at the age of 23.

As we all know the biggest part of baseball is changing up your gameplan, strategy, and routine, and The Show forces you to. It's the reason the game is so fun and challenging, and why it seems to be one for the older crowd that can handle the ups and downs of the game. To me no other sports game has nailed the CPU AI down, the way The Show does. I have never had more satisfaction from winning and losing than I have in this game. I may want to throw my controller at times but I never feel cheated (unless it's an occasional fielding issue) and every loss I can go back and say this cost me the game. The same can be said when I win games.

I cannot wait to see how this game turns out on PS4. The beauty of it is, I no longer have to spend $400 plus games on a system I don't play any exclusives on. Now I can just get a PS4 for The Show and the other sports games I play. I'll be saving a lot more money this next gaming cycle.

In fact, I'll wager that there are some out there that would own or play The Show, and that's the only game they own.
Maybe it's because it's Baseball.. Maybe it's the attention to detail, maybe it's because the Show rewards patience over button smashing.
                I dunno.
But I bet that the average age of The Show owner is slightly higher than other games.
(And we're probably higher IQ too, not to mention better looking)
Well, I have to agree with you. I'll be 71 on August 2nd. Higher IQ? Of course Better Looking? You sure got that right, just ask my wife

In retrospect, this is about what we should expect. Guys in 30s and 40s these days are the first generation who really grew up with playing video games when young, and it's no surprise they keep the hobby. In fact, I remember reading a blog article saying that the average video gamers are 35 y.o., married male. I don't know if it was in UK or US, but the result was something like that.

Wow, nice - so I'm average, except for the married part. That's cool Gamerz 4evah

I think we all have our little gripes about The Show and sports gaming in general (chief being overemphasis on online gaming and Ultimate Team stuff, cha-ching), but to think where we are now as opposed to even 10 yrs ago is simply amazing.

Re: Does The Show Attract more Mature players?

I'm stepping into the batter's box at 36 yrs. old and I bought a PS3 just for this game....it's the only game I've ever had for the system. I've been a fan of baseball my whole life and the game brings such realism in so many aspects of baseball, that I can't help but be obsessed with it.
It's great to see guy's in their 50's, 60's and beyond enjoying this game....I plan to be doing the same and seeing the ages of some makes me see that I don't have to give up something I enjoy later down the road.
....and I have no doubts that we are all high I.Q.'d handsome gentlemen.

Re: Does The Show Attract more Mature players?

I'm 19 and I love the show and baseball in general. Lifelong Braves fan raised north of Atlanta. I think 13 The Show is the best sports game ever created, their attention to detail, gameplay, and atmosphere of the game is outstanding.

I'm the only one out of my group of friends that owns the show so I guess everyone's point about the show gamers usually being "older" is somewhat correct. Most guys my age aren't patient enough to play 9+ innings of a baseball game but I just love it. The Show requires you to be patient and selective, just like baseball in real life. There also isn't an "easy way out" like there is in other sports games where you can cheese your way to a win. I play Madden, NCAA, FIFA, and NBA 2K but The Show is my favorite series and the main reason I bought a PS3 when I was 15.

To all of you guys older than me that are still going strong and gaming it up, I salute you. I think that's so cool and hopefully when I get married someday my wife will understand the importance of it

Re: Does The Show Attract more Mature players?

I bought Strat-o-Matic baseball at a department store called Crowley's for $8 on Aug. 23, 1976. Yes, I remember the precise date. I don't know why. Just goes to show how much I loved baseball as a kid.

Over the years, however, I became disenfranchised with the sport for some reason. Maybe because free agency created such a huge gap between the big-market teams like the Yankees and small-market clubs I grew up watching like the Pirates -- and the fact that players changed teams so often, unlike when I was a kid and top players tended to stay with one team for longer periods. And of course the frauds created by the steroid era didn't help. I stopped following the sport in the late 80s, as I gravitated toward football, hockey and basketball.

Not to sound corny, but I can honestly say the Show, which I began playing almost one year ago after I purchased a PS3, has rekindled my love of baseball. It's just that good of a game. Like someone else mentioned, it's a 12-month a year game, one that holds your interest in the off-season, unlike other sports titles. In fact, I find myself only playing The Show (I'm debating whether to get NCAA 14 -- it used to be my favorite series pre-Show).

There is just something about this game that resonates like no other -- an immersion factor that Madden, NCAA, NBA 2k or NHL cannot replicate as far as I'm concerned.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

This culture of app games and quickie play money grab simple stuff doesn't help.

Nice to know there are still gamers who like a longer/more methodical game.
