Re: New to "The Show" orientation

Thanks romanoj. I'm hoping to get more of an overview of how each hitting mode works as opposed to which one is better...I'd just like to know the differences in how they work.

I think the actual game mode that intrigues me the most is Diamond Dynasty...I love using my own team that I have that much control over. The only problem I see is that I think DD is heavily dependent upon online play (right?) and from what I've heard, online play completely borked right now.

Re: New to "The Show" orientation

      So here's a vid from MLBTS 12:

Sports fans - Zone Analog Batting is a by-product of our original Zone Batting hit mechanic and our most recent Analog Batting feature so we wanted to give users the best of both. From talking to our community, we found that some of our Zone Batting players weren't using the Analog Batting because they couldn't [...]

I'm deducing from this video that it goes as follows:

Timing - single button press as previously mentioned
Analog - Stick down to stride, stick up to swing
Zone - Move the reticle around to attempt to line up where the ball is located as it comes to you (Is pure zone using single button to swing then?)
Zone + Analog one stick for reticle, one stick for stride

Still don't know what modes the PCI is available on and if it's not necessary for some of these hitting modes.

      Am I missing anything?

Re: New to "The Show" orientation

Like some of you guys, I just bought a PS3 to play the Show, after having to play MLB 2K for the last few years on 360. The best feature in MLB 2K was obviously the analog pitching control, where you have a different motion for each type of pitch. What pitching interface is similar for the Show, and/or what interface do you recommend that would be good for me?

          Thread hijackers!!!!

Since we're not garnering any responses, I'll tell you what I know (also coming from MLB2K), and that is there are two types of pitching...pulse pitching (a blinking circle that gives you more accuracy and speed the smaller you can stop the pulsing circle, and meter pitching where you start and stop a meter on two spots, one for power, one for accuracy...

That was a cool feature in MLB2K though...made pitching a little challenging...

For the show, there are four types of pitching.

Classic- select a pitch and select a spot to throw it. Pretty basic.

Pure Analog- select a pitch and you then go down on the stick to start the motion to get as close as possible to a yellow line. Once there you push up to get into a little circle.

Pulse- select a pitch and it will give you an oscillating circle and you need to create as small a circle as possible. Easier to understand when seen.

Meter- select a pitch. Then you will see a meter (shocker). To begin press x. Your moving point can either go to the read or the yellow. If closer to yellow it will have better control. If closer to red it will be thrown with more velocity. You press x to pick a spot. Then once again the point will come back and you need to get it as close as possible to a yellow line. It's different then the yellow zone I mentioned earlier. Once again it is easier seen then explained.

            Hope I could help.

Husker, can you do the same summary for hitting?

I apologize to anyone who views this as common knowledge, but having never actually seen the game in action and having to wait until May 6 to play it, I'd like to try and get some working knowledge before I sit down and play it.

Re: New to "The Show" orientation

Hello everyone I am a PS & The Show noob. I've ran some pretty active MLB2k leagues on the 360 from 2008-2012 but every year the game got worse and worse. I've also been an xbox guy since day 1 but now the nexgen consoles gave me a reason to finally make the switch so i have purchased a PS4 the other day and will once again be running a league but this time with a true baseball game! We have a solid group that have been with us for years and also just started recruiting on the various forums and are already halfway full so if any of you guys are looking for an Active/Well Established league then you should join TS4L Baseball! We also provide quality Madden leagues that we have been running since 2010. Opening Day will be in Mid May so message me if you are interested and would like to know more.

Those swing types are summed up accurately. As far as terms, PCI is interchangeable with reticle. It's the halo that us shown in your Zone hitting modes. It indicates the contact area of your bat.

The different swing types are power, normal, contact. Power decreases your PCI size and contact rates, contact swing increases the PCI size and decreases power.

It's been a long time since I've played anything without Zone but you can turn on/off the PCI in all modes. You can also change the visual look of the PCI halo. So if you're watching videos and see different types, that's why.

Yes Zone uses the left analog to aim PCI and then three buttons to determine swing type. The PCI can be moved pre pitch so you can sit in a zone or moved with the pitch to aim anywhere in the zone (2 strikes).

Daruff, when I get initiated if love a league, though I'd wait until the brewers were available. It's my OCD thing though, I've heard that mlbts online play is awful, worse than mlb2k which was actually really good.

Does anyone know if the historic teams that are discussed earlier in this thread will work on the ps4?

Re: New to "The Show" orientation

Well boys, I got the game, finally. (I'm the OP who started this thread) I've been having a blast thus far, wading through menus and trying to get a handle on what everything means. I do have some questions, and then I'll follow up with the modes I've settled on!

I see the popup for the new roster update (Juan Francisco is still on the Brewers in my game). There were like 98 changes, but I can't seem to figure out how to download them or install them. Can someone help?

Also, when I create a player, I noticed that there's no option for "none" for the name audio. I created my son as a player, but our last name doesn't exist, so I'm forced to pick a name that sounds close. Is there any way around that, or am I kind of stuck? Same with team names...

Onto the modes! For hitting, I went with analog at first, but I was swinging at everything and even though like the concept, it was too hard. So, I switched to zone hitting and I found it easier to concentrate. Pitching I'm torn between meter and analog. We'll see what wins.

Diamond Dynasty is by far my favorite mode. I love fake teams and fake players and the fact that I can play vs. other people's fake teams. I made the "Appleton Foxes" who are now defunct (they've basically become the Wisconsin Timberrattlers), but used to be part of the KC Royals minor league system. Playing with the logo editor was a blast! So much fun...

So what's the difference between Season and Franchise mode? No scouting, etc?

Season only uses the 40-man roster, Franchise covers AA & AAA.
