Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
Overall, the CPU chases more pitches and has a harder time reading pitch location. The explanation of every change wouldn't make sense without a lot of context, and in the end it's your experience with it that matters anyways. Like most tuning work, the change will have to speak for itself. -

Brian,
Try us…I think that more people than you think might get what you are talking about. For example…in the PCI thread…I think MOST people understood EXACTLY what the original idea of PCI was. Anyway…I would love to hear some of the thinking.
btw…if its just too damn long and you don't want to waste the time writing it out…thats cool too.Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
I hope the CPU pitchers got tweaked to so they are not so perfect all the time. It was improved upon last year, but still needed quite a bit of tweaking imo. Now you could get it right with slider adjustments, but I would like to see it closely resemble real life without having to mess with the sliders.
The more and more I hear about all the improvements this year, its definitely going to make it tough on me not to get it. Every year the Devs do such a great job on this game. Wish I could always say the same thing about the NBA2k devs, and the EA devs on football, but I cant sadly. MLBTS devs always amaze me each year with how much they improve on a already great game.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

This is really great to hear.
Is there any chance that this tuning would cause a CPU hitter to take a strike, or is it more geared to have lesser hitters swing at balls a little more frequently?Comment

Hopefully, the answer is "yes."Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
Did you guys find that the CPU did not take strikes? To me the CPU would not take early strikes but would get called out taking strike 3 quite often. I also found they would swing at a lot of 3-0 counts.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
Same here in my experience the CPU hardly ever takes early strikes.
Hopefully they do now in MLB 14 The Show.Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
Yeah a called strike 3 was the only strikeout I could consistently get. I wouldn't say it happened "often," but it wasn't as unattainable as a swinging strike or a "real" chaseComment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
This topic worries the heck out of me because no matter how the DEVs rework things there will always be pleasure and displeasure. There wouldn't have been any issues if they just left it the way it was but kudos to them if they think they can make it better.Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
There would have been plenty of issues if they left it the way it was. CPU batting AI has been a big sticking point for a few years now. There's a TON of threads about getting around it.Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
I'm just hoping the issue from last year where the first pitch was 9/10 a strike doesn't crop up again. They did a good job listening to feedback and fixing it though.Comment

Re: CPU plate discipline logic has been re-written
I'm pretty sure they look at MLB averages and tune the game towards that. Things like Swinging Strike %. It's not like they are making changes based on 'feel'. The Show does it right and it's why they have the best sports sim.

lol Ya that first pitch strike issue was crazy but got fixed quick and easy.Comment
