Re: MLB 14 The Show Q&A with the Community

As someone who played last years version I was curious if anyone could tell me if the following issues were solved for the 14 version for PS3:

-how drastically do players, age 30 and above, decline on a yearly basis. and is there still an option not to allow attributes to change during the season itself (and does this vary in season vs franchise mode).

-do a lot of unrealistic cpu to cpu trades occur in the offseason.

-do key free agents hit the free agent market regularly. with last years edition not many did.

    Thanks.

All of your answers can be found in this thread but I'll help you out the best I can anyway.

Regression is a lot more realistic this year. There are some screen shots in the impressions thread showing a 37 year old Albert Pujols ranked in the 80's. Most people don't realize that in last year's game, regression had nothing to do with how old you were. Players usually regressed 3 years after hitting their peak potential. Players in their 20's regressed all the time...

If there is an option that attributes won't change during the season, I'm not aware of it lol.

Of course, unrealistic trades will always happen in video games and although I think they have improved over the past few years, this year it's apparently more frequent because of the budget room issues we are seeing so far...

Actually a couple guys have stated that less guys are hitting the market this year than last year even, again because of the budget issues. Teams are getting too much money this year in budget movement at year's end and are also signing A potential talent when they are young to 6-7 years deals of a million per...

Issues that may all be fixed so don't get down on the game yet... Using 30 team control, which is not time consuming at all actually, will help these issues if they aren't looked at by SCEA...

So when players regress their overall ratings don't decline more than a few points in a given season? In last years version there were 10+ overall rating declines.

Also is there still not an option to allow for no cpu to cpu trades? Seems like an easy to include option that could potentially appease a lot of people.

And this issue of teams having too much budget space, is this a realistic option to expect to be rectified in a future patch?

Thanks for answering my questions by the way.

Edit: as for controlling all 30 teams, is it possible only to do this in the offseason. in other words can i pick and choose when i can control certain teams.

I also notice that team strategies seem to default for some teams to rebuild at the start of franchise and carry over to the off season and subsequent seasons affecting trades. Yankees and Phillies seem to be most prevalent.

It could just be the default and live roster...not sure.

Teams like the Yankees are defaulting to rebuild at the start of the 14 season??? Not just mid-way through 14 and carrying over to 15?

Could that be why McCann and Soriano are already on the block in my Franchise (I'm 12 games in)? Though, I think a lot of teams do that in this game. I'll check out team strategies later.

Do you need the physical disc to save files to the cloud?

Or just the save file on the XMB?

Never done this before and don't want to trade in my PS3 copy for the PS4 only to realize I needed the disc to transfer my Franchise.

I doubt you would need the disc. The save file for your franchise or whatever mode you're transferring over should be all you need.

No....but I think you do need to upload your save from within the game.
It's not like a regular Online Save.
So.....your last one on the PS3 is your save for the4 I would think.

Right. That's exactly what I'm asking.

Do cloud saves function from within the online portion that you can only access within the game?

My original plan was to just trade in the disc and THEN do the save and transfer all at once. But now I'm wondering if that's a bad plan.

I believe you need to use the Save to Cloud option within the game menu. I don't think you can load the save file from your XMB into the PS4 copy of the game, pretty sure you have to go through the cloud. (If that's what you're asking)

I don't know for sure 'cause I haven't personally toyed with franchise, but I'd assume that they are regressing a lot less than 10 points...

I thought there was some sort of option to turn off trades but that's probably trades altogether right? Like I said I haven't even touched franchise yet myself but IMO trading is a big part of franchise. Players need to switch organizations to project the realism of MLB. You can pretty much turn off computer trading in 30 team control without that said option anyway. the 29 teams you are "controlling" with your CPU profile has an option to make trading manual or auto. Just set to manual and they won't make trades unless you initiate them. I use this option in the off season because you can't view pending trades. During the season I leave it on auto and play commissioner.

The right guys are talking to developers about the budget issue so perhaps it will be tweaked but never get your hopes up...

That's the beauty of 30 team control brother. You never, ever have to touch the other 29 teams at all, in fact you'd maybe even forget that you are using 30 team control during the duration of your personal franchise because the set up is so beautiful. The off season is usually the only time I play GM for all 30 teams. I like to try and control all major league free agents destinations to ensure a team doesn't have 2 A potential players at a positions and what not. also help smaller market teams improve their team so they can battle the likes of the Yanks and Dodgers.

30 team control lets you pick and choose whatever you want to do. I advise you to look at 30 team control tutorial threads and embark on a franchise using this because my friend, it's easy as pie. I did one for the first time last year and I'll never look back..

Player salaries seems great but, and almost every legacy Franchise bug has been fixed. Seriously, it's awesome. But young players are getting locked up to cheap long term deals, which causes an excess of funds around the league (which impacts renewable players, free agency, etc).

Small stuff that hopefully can and will get patched.

Thank you for the response and answer, but what do you mean that they served no purpose? They were way for teams to make more money (or not) and affected how much you would have to spend on everything else. Some teams would end up with drastically more money to spend than others, mirroring real life. Beyond that, it was a really enjoyable side to the game. For someone who only plays offline franchise, last year's game (and I presume this year's too), offers almost nothing other than straight gameplay.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.
