Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Finished my first season. Created a 2B and was drafted by the Giants in round 1.
    Spent a little over a month in AA. .284, 0HR, 12RBI. I'm a speedy contact guy for now. Called up to AAA .268, 10HR, 51 RBI, 13SB, 7Triples.

I get hurt beginning of August out for the rest of season. I obvi resign with SF and am the top 2B in the system at a 71 ovr. But I begin in AAA. After the first game of 2015 Marco Scutaro goes on the 60 day DL. Here's my shot! Quicker then expected!

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Was promoted to the MLB club with the Rays the week before the trade deadline. In 87 games combined between AA and AAA I hit .279 with 96 hits, 43 runs scored, 14 doubles, 7 triples, 16 home runs, 62 RBI, 14 stolen bases, 27 walks, 43 strikeouts, and made 7 errors in the field.

Through my first 9 games with the Rays I am hitting .200 with 6 hits, 4 runs scored, 1 double, 1 triple, 0 home runs, 3 RBI, 1 stolen base, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts, .300 SLG%, .250 OBP, .550 OPS, and have not made an error yet.

Have pretty much been hitting 7th in the order behind James Loney, but have also seen time in the 6 spot and also had a game batting leadoff.

I am currently a B potential with an 80 overall rating.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Just finished up my first season with 18yo SS Michael Anthony (Marking his 5th RTTS since The Show '06). A pretty poor outing in the prospect showcase led to a late draft in the 2nd round by Oakland, but was pretty fine with that.

A decent showing in 36 games of AA ball hitting .360 with 54 hits. Getting called up to AAA broke all momentum and led to a lengthy, cold start. A real struggle until just past the All-Star break when switching focus to improving Plate Vision and Clutch hitting leading to a 10 game hit streak in August. Ended the season with 85 games played and a batting average of .267, which isnt all that bad considering it was hovering around .180 for a good chunk of the season. 97 hits and 29 RBI's wasnt enough to get the River Cats into the Post Season unfortunately as we finished 3 games back in the division with a record of 70-74. Finished on a victory at home and a celebration to wrap up the season. (In the majors, the Giants beat the Red Sox to capture the 2014 World Series Championship)

Signed a new 2 Year contract with Oakland for $100k, although being sent back down to AA as a starter to begin the season, the hopes of making the majors in the 2015 season isnt too hopeful. Off to Spring Training...

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

I am loving this game so far. The attention to detail is amazing and the developers should be very proud of their work. Here is my story:

I have started with a switch hitting CF modeled after Mike Trout. Joel Elliot (ya, guess I still have playing The Last of Us on the brain) had an awfull series of showcase games with some key errors in the field. He ended up being drafted in the 4th round to the SF Giants. Just 18 years old, anxious and not really interested in going back to school, Joel accepted the Giants offer and reported to the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Joel's ability to field the CF position has always been suspect, but his speed and prowness at the plate quickly earned him promotion to the AAA team. Finally, after a good start to the season, the Giants were starting to loose their race with the LA Dodgers for the western division lead and promoted Joel to The Show after the all star break. The plan was for Joel to replace the slumping Angel Pagon, shake things up and provide some pop at the top of the order. Joel has proven to be a solid 300 hitter with good speed on the bases. However, his defense is still a liability in CF.

In one game of note, playing the Pirates with a runners at 1st and 3rd, Gaints third baseman Pablo Sandoval approached the mound to talk to starting piticher Matt Cain. After a brief discussion, Pablo returned to his position and, with the ball hidden in his glove, tried to tag out the runner at third. Although this hidden ball trick did not work, it had everyone on both teams, including the new center fielder, laughing for the rest of the game.

          Cheers,

Anybody else having trouble with manual catch?

My CF has 3 recorded replays of 3 separate "errors" where the ball literally bounced out of my glove on a fly ball.

Last one was one of those 'runner about to tag' ones, where I stand back and get ready for the throw... Ball halo never turned from red.

Another problem is with the throwing. The analog sticks are so loose that when I let go on any throw, it sends the ball home. This is killing me with so many 'bad decision' throws every few fielding opportunities.

My left fielder was having a stellar season in AA Corpus Cristi 2014 and got called up to the big club ( Rays on July 18 ) as the new starter in left field ( 81 A potential ) then just before the trading deadline my competition for the left field starting spot Matt Joyce ( had been demoted to AAA ) was traded away leaving yours truly as the now full time starter in left field. Got my first hit in my second game a double against the Twins and the next at bat my first HR, so a 2-4 start to my career. This game is awesome fun especially RTTS.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Managed to get a cycle with my SS the other day. Came up to bat in the 7th needing only a double and I'm pretty sure I was shaking while holding the controller.

Currently 69 games into my career with the Nationals organization, 68 of them at AAA. Hitting .312/.316(I wish I could draw a walk)/.492, with 9 HR and 38 RBi in 266 ABs. Typically start at DH, but I get the occasional game at SS and 3B. Hoping I can be the starting SS at some point, but I've got Jamey Carroll ahead of me, and he's hitting pretty well as well as has a few points on me in overall and adjusted overall rating.

I said this a few days ago, but I'm loving RTTS this year. I'm guessing I have more time with it so far this year, than I did in the previous years combined. Thank you for removing the in-game goals, SCEA.

I preordered from GameStop and now have 30,000 in stubs points to use!
What to do with them? Spend all 30,000 on my second basemen or spend 6,000 for a 2x boost for 120 games and I could do that 5 times! Just not sure which one to choose. Anyone else preorder from GameStop?

So stupid question but the game doesn't spell it out. Is there any benefit to getting drafted in the 1st round instead of 5th?

Higher potential leading you to get to the show faster

Your draft position does not determine your Potential, your Potential (which is given by your performance) determines your draft position. Speaking of which potential changes throughout your career based on your performance so having a higher potential to start with doesn't mean you'll always be that potential, nor does it mean you'll hit the show faster. xD

I know they advertised that it would change depending on performance but the RTTS potential progression is broken from my expierecne.

I tanked in the showcase and was drafted in the 7th round. Started with a D potential.

I'm now 24 and am 95 overall while batting in the .310's and chasing a 50-50 season (I'll get the steals, but need to hit more homers).

However, eventhough my overall is 95 and my adjusted overall has been 99 this whole season, my potential is still at a D. I have seen my talent performance label change, though. I've seen it go from "major league hopeful" to "career minor leaguer" to "young talent."

I was surprised, happy, and sad at the same time. I always felt weird that I never had injuries happen in RTTS. My guy tore his groin, and was out for 60 days. Finally had an injury, hopefully that's the last one though.

Update #6 - OF Pakari Pogba

After not being offered arb by the Orioles after the 2018 season, I hit the UFA market at age 22. Only 1 team was interested in me, so I decided to sign with them for a 2 year deal worth a total of 2.8 million. That team being the Cincinnati Reds.

During the 2019 at age 23 I had a fairly decent year. Started out slow and was dropped to #8 in the line up, but I ended the season with a line of .268 avg - 23 hr - 69 - rbi - 49 steals with 25 dbls and 10 trips (in 148 games). Lead the NL in triples and won the Gold Glove Award for LF! No All Star Game and No Playoffs.

During the 2010 season at age 24, my guy turned the corner and took it to another level. In only 137 games, I finished the year with a .320 avg - 35 hr - 105 rbi - 57 steals with 27 dbls and 11 trips. I finally made the All-Star team (as a starter), joined the 30-30 club, and got my 100th hr during this season, but again we missed the playoffs.

My contract is up with the Reds and I am about to sim to the offseason, so we'll see what happens.

EDIT: I also ended Edward Mujica's career. Last week of the season I hit a line drive up the middle and it hit him right in the head. Went on the DL with a concussion but now I look at the retirement screen and Mujica has retired. Sorry virtual Mujica
