Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

The 2015 season is wrapped up for young Shortstop Michael Anthony.
Was a bit disappointed having to sign a contract as a Double-A starter again after doing decent in Triple-A in the 2014 season. Was tearing it up in AA which lead to a call up to Triple-A on May 30th while batting .372 and leading the league in both Doubles and Triples after 43 games. Building up speed and plate vision has made a huge difference in extra base hits this year.

Took a few games to get in to a good flow in Triple-A but got hot for the first half of the season once was placed in the 3rd spot. Alot of well played games though only few highlights to speak of through the season such as 2 grand slams (including 1 in the final game of the season that gave us a 1 run victory) and a 14 game hit streak in June. The last full month of the season was a bit brutal, falling into a nasty cold slump. Ended the season with a far better performance than last season's run in Triple-A, including 105 hits 19 doubles 3 triples and 10 homeruns, 2 of which were grand slams. Also batted a solid .289 with 55 RBIs through 81 games and was easily a top player for the club. Though a losing club as we finished in last place of the division, a whole 20 games back. Very sad season team wise.

Going into Spring Training, the 20 Year Old Shortstop is currently sitting at a B Potential with an 87 overall, mainly a strong fielder who is just recently turned alot of his training towards hitting. A day 1 starter this coming season for the Triple-A River Cats, though hopefully 2016 will be the year we get the first taste of Show.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

So... Oliver Thornton, Centre Fielder "from The International Region" has reached the end of the Regular Season. He remains, like the North Sea off the coast of his native England, largely fish free. The only significant difference in this aquatic void is that one is caused by over-fishing and the other by a fastidious resolve to only eat the finest Sushi. I'll let you judge which is which. What we can learn from all this though is that Oliver Thornton remains entrenched in AAA "Ball" with the Tacoma Rainiers.

It is of course reasonable to ask why not jump in my car and drive to Seattle for this damned Sushi. After all it's a mere 32 miles South-West. Well, it's the principle of the matter. I was drafted by Seattle, excited by their culinary offerings, only to be sent to Jackson. A place I spent a lot of times and am still unsure where exactly I was. The Sushi that I am told is on offer in Seattle has become a symbol of what it means to make it to The Show. That... and the fact that I'm pretty sure this is TV show or video game. Whenever I try to leave the stadium all roads lead nowhere and they have Power Plants melt down and such. It's most disconcerting.

I'm willing to bet many of you are confused or bored ant this juncture. Therefore, like some literary Oligarch I am going to throw the 99% a bone by linking to my Initial Post on this fine young specimen's early career (for context). Last thing we need is Occupy Tacoma, the 1% wandering the streets confused as to what they are reading and why they are even here. Probably ill advised too since Tacoma's Hilltop neighbourhood has had it's struggles with crime. In fact, said neighbourhood was once nicknamed "Tacompton" by some highly creative individuals due to it's high crime rate (I would have gone for Comptacoma!). I discovered this thanks to some American dude who moved to London called Jimmy Wales.

So, back on the field things have been pretty good for Oliver. He finished the regular season hitting an impressive .320, with 16 Homers and 52 RBIs, not to mention some 8 Stolen Bases. Considering how things began it represents quite a turnaround.

I am firmly entrenched in Centre Field now after starting out with a truly embarrassing stint in Left Field and then an extended run as DH. Defence is also much improved, due in no large part to the fact than nobody has hit the ball off the wall in months. My boy does occasionally forget to pick-up the ball sometimes, but I feel like the team understand his limitations and accept him for who he is. A diving catch is not a possibility. It probably will never be. Better improve my speed.

The highlight of the season to date is two fold, depending on your point of view....

From a baseball perspective the best moment was on the road against the Omaha Storm Chasers (I always thought storms chased you? and how can a team who get "rained off" be called the storm chasers. Think it through Omaha.) was my first two homer game, with 5 RBIs AND a single AND a Stolen base AND a walk!!! Yeah!! You heard me a ****ing walk!!!! Honestly, walks are harder to get than home runs. My aim next season is to hit for 74 walks. Screw you Barry Bonds. My performance enhancers include a new pair of hiking boots, a nice ham sandwich and a flask of tea. Why??? Because I am going to be doing so much damned walking to first base.

The alternative highlight of the year was another road trip. Baseball purists might not see it this way but it was when I went 2 for 5 (both singles) against the Las Vegas 51's!!!! The LAS VEGAS 51's!!! It's a real thing! I was so happy. That's where you want to be as a young player, from a different country. No woman (sorry Meryl Streep but it was over when I left Jackson), no responsibilities. You play baseball, go to the casino, get messed up of an evening. lovely. Plus the team logo is an alien. Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory. Come to think of it that series was the prelude to my biggest slump of the season. In no way to do with a hangover.. Actually in real life it was a hangover after the Arsenal FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. I cannot play video games with a hangover. It's a real hardship... Anyway, if I ever get traded to the Mets I plan to never hit anything. Obviously, walks are always welcome. I will then get demoted to AAA and live out my career in Vegas playing for the coolest team in baseball. Plus, they had Bobby Abreu. I got his autograph.

As far as other things go it's all very straight forward. I am now 71 ovarall. My potential remains a C. There are apparently three guys obstructing my path to stardom. That seems counter-intuitive since I am starting CF at AAA. My AAA team-mate Dustin Ackley is playing well and ahead of me in the list, despite him paying LF. Then two other dudes. One called Gutierrez and the other Almonte.

Still, playoffs are afoot. We have El Paso. I hope there is a cactus in the out-field.

This year I'm stepping away from the "All-Around" type and going with a beastly red-headed Irishman named Rory McMahon (which means "Red" "Son of the Bear"). He's pure power and on a mission to smash the career home run record.

Awesome, this is my plan too with one of my players once PS4 comes out. I'm planning on going to the Astros to try and exploit the short porch in left with a right-handed power hitter. Time for a new Home Run King.

Any one know why I might have received a 500 point bonus in training points? I didn't see anything in the post game report and didn't do anything special. Definitely a nice surprise, my guy just got a lot faster.

                  *long update*

Update 7 - OF Pakari Pogba

                  Update 1, Update 2, Update 3, Update 4, Update 5, Update 6

After a very good 2020 season with the Cincinnati Reds, I entered the offseason and was immediately offered arbitration. Reds offered me like 1.4 million, and I asked for 5 million and won the arbitration hearing.

Going into 2021, in the back of my mind I knew that the season could go tits up because the Reds on paper stunk (they had just let Bruce go to San Francisco). I knew that I would have 6.000 years service time at years end and I would hit the UFA market, I was going to ask for a trade in July so the Reds would at least get something for me.

Wouldn't you know it: we sucked and were well out of the playoff mix by the ASG break. So, I bid farewell to Cincinnati and was traded to the Detroit Tigers.

I had a memorable 64 games in Detroit and posted a total stat line of .314 avg - 50 hr - 135 rbi - 50 sb. I completed a historic feat by being the first player in MLB history to be in the 50-50 club! Made the All-Star team and won the Silver Slugger. Would have won the MVP had it not been for Giancarlo Stanton of the Red Sox. Despite my player's efforts, the Tigers missed the playoffs by 1 game.

Entered into the off-season as a 26 year old free agent and waited to see who signed where. More specifically, I was waiting to see where free agent Bryce Harper signed because I wanted to team with him. Harper signed with the Yankees (who had also acquired 97 ovr Buxton to play CF) and I really really REALLY wanted to play for the NYY. However, they never even made me an offer. I know I could have done the spring training invite thing, but that's not realistic.

The Yankees didn't want a piece of Pakari Pogba... with that being said, the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants did.

Boston offered me the most with 9 years at 18 million per... so I picked them. However, I worked out a 4 year deal with a player opt out after year 3. Although I missed out on teaming with Harper and Buxton, I now get to recreate the Bash Bros. with Giancarlo Stanton in Boston.

2022 I finally won the MVP award and made a run at the Triple Crown by posting a line of .323 avg - 51 hr - 163 rbi - 24 sb. we won 89 games and played the Wild Card game against those damn Yankees. Sigh.... we lost. The Giants went on to win the World Series... so that stings knowing I picked the Red Sox over them.

                  Onward to 2023...

No, it was game 70, year one, AAA. I did not pre order the game so there should be no bonus for that. I earned 52 points that game, plus 10 from prior balance. When I got back to the home page I had 562 points.

I really wish the trades would die down. First of all, and correct me if I'm wrong, but in real life you cannot be traded immediately following being drafted, correct? I'm in July, and just got dealt to the Marlins. I'm a 19-year-old CF hitting .344 in AA. 15 HR, 61 RBI, and 22 SB's. I am in the Mariners' organization. 64 overall, A potential. I got traded for a reliever. If I was a piece in a deal for Stanton, I'd understand. Oh, and when the Mariners drafted me, I was the #6 overall pick in the 2015 Draft.

RTTS is awesome, but the excessive, illogical trades need to be heavily looked at. It kills the mode for me.

in real life the soonest you can be traded is a year after the draft. so imagining that the rtts draft takes place in june of 2013 for you to be playing in the 2014 season you would be eligible to be traded in june of 2014. although, i do believe drew pomeranz was taded with less than one year, but had to be a called a "player to be named later"
