Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

After the OSFM rosters came out I began a new franchise with the dbacks.

I believe I'm around 17-24, somewhere around there. Our team ERA is great, under 3. But our offense is just so inconsistent. Worst average in the minors.

We're pulling together slowly but surely. I do player lock so I personally deal with lineups. Right now it's just a matter of finding combinations to score runs and getting my hitters on the right track.

With Ross back with me I'm going to move him to full time RF and Parra to full time CF.

With Bradley, Shipley, and Bolsinger down in the minors, pitching looks strong but we don't have a lot of notable position player prospects, we do have jake lamb.

Trades can happen for those kinds of players, Bradley is untouchable...

Ross always hits well vs. me, no matter which team I'm using. I like the AZ squad; I bet they'd be fun to use.

I just started my official OAK franchise with OSFM and am 4-1, riding some really hot performances from my pitching staff.

It's SO fun to be able to use the guys that area actually in the system. I'm salivating over Russell's eventual arrival!

I decided on an A's franchise instead of the Phillies solely to play with Russell. Kid has MVP potential based on what I've read.

He's sick in OSFM. The roster came in with him in AA and off the 40-man, so I'm going to be patient and let him tear up the minors this year, since I have Lowrie at SS and Sogard/Callaspo/Punto form a scrappy platoon of options at 2B.

But man, I'm salivating for the day when I can move Lowrie over and have Donaldson, Russell, Lowrie, and Moss in my IF (assuming I keep Moss--he always plays well for me, even vs. LHP).

I'm not as excited for the OF prospects, but we'll see what the draft yields.

Post up your training philosophies in the thread Armor & Sword created on prospect development if you have some good stuff. I'm curious how other Moneyballers train the prospects.

I'm thinking about moving Donaldson to 1B and adding Lowrie in a package for a decent OF, 2B or 3B in my franchise.

Franchise ready! OSFM Rosters all set and we are good to go!

                  New York Yankees Franchise

                  GAME 1: @ Houston Astros.

CC Sabathia was dominant the whole game. Started with 4 consecutive K's and surrendered the first hit in the fifth inning. His fastball was touching the 91 MPH, which was very low for him, but he was able to mix it up with some change ups and sinkers. Cosart in the other hand, began also dominant, retiring the first 9 batters but then he collapsed. Cosart surrendered 4 runs in the fifth inning. Matt Alberss gave up the rest 5 runs in the 8th, including a Grand Slam by new Yankee Jacoby Ellsbury for an spectacular performance in his first official game with a Yankees uniform.

I posted something in another thread about moving Donaldson to 1B, and one of the more knowledgeable guys, like ACMilan or Totte, said that would diminish his value greatly, owing to his rare combination of hitting and defensive ability at 3B, so from that perspective, maybe packaging Lowrie for a 1B might make better sense. Just thought I'd pass that perspective along.

But if you put aside what the real A's might do or how they value Donaldson, I agree that in-game, he'd be great at 1st and Russell would be great at SS.

Another note I got from the veterans on the forum was to build OAK as a defense and pitching team, as the park itself isn't conducive to great offense, so that might be a strategy to follow, only putting plus gloves on the field at each position if at all possible.

I think OAK is really fun because you have so many decent bats who are plus gloves at multiple positions. The number of lineups you can field with them is insane.

22 games into the season and I have a 15-7 record. I'm playing on Veteran Batting and All-Star pitching, at least that's what the Dynamic difficulty has me set at. I'm up 2 games on the Jays, while the O's have gotten off to a 1-9 start en route to a 6-16 record, 22 games in the season...9 games behind the Yankees.

                        Hello all, gostorm3 here.

i have started posting dynasty blogs for my new Atlanta Braves franchise in MLB 14 for the PS3. Instead of clogging this thread with summaries and box scores, you can stay updated on the Braves 2014 season through my dynasty blog.

*So far we're 1-1, a 2-1 victory in game 1 and a 4-3 walk-off loss in game 2 of the series against Milwaukee.

*Having trouble getting extra-base hits and home runs, especially with the homer-happy Braves ballclub. Chris Johnson has my only XBH, an RBI double.

Hope you stop by and peace.

From the games I've seen this year Donaldson has played well defensively at third, but not in the show. Maybe I need to bump his ratings a bit.

I like the idea of keeping plus gloves in the outfield over power bats, but I'll have to train my natural frame of mind of offense over defense.

I'm already happy with this team and can't wait to make them even better!

I was talking with some folks about this, particularly in connection with Reddick, who gives me trouble at the plate every year in The Show. The argument for keeping him was essentially that he saves runs with his range and arm, so what he doesn't give you on offense he gives you back and then some on defense. In-game, I really see his plus range at work, and the same for Coco.

I see it with Donaldson, but not at the upper echelon-type level that you see with guys like Zimmerman. I'm not saying he's that type of player, but you can tell the difference. He's CLEARLY better than a guy like Callaspo, though, whom I put at 3B every once in a blue moon if I have to DH Donaldson for rest or if I just give him the day off. Callaspo just plain makes me nervous. He's injured right now at the beginning of my franchise, so I have someone else filling in who is much better with the glove as a sub.
