Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
I posted something in another thread about moving Donaldson to 1B, and one of the more knowledgeable guys, like ACMilan or Totte, said that would diminish his value greatly, owing to his rare combination of hitting and defensive ability at 3B, so from that perspective, maybe packaging Lowrie for a 1B might make better sense. Just thought I'd pass that perspective along.
But if you put aside what the real A's might do or how they value Donaldson, I agree that in-game, he'd be great at 1st and Russell would be great at SS.
Another note I got from the veterans on the forum was to build OAK as a defense and pitching team, as the park itself isn't conducive to great offense, so that might be a strategy to follow, only putting plus gloves on the field at each position if at all possible.
I think OAK is really fun because you have so many decent bats who are plus gloves at multiple positions. The number of lineups you can field with them is insane.
You have a great young rotation, an awesome bullpen chalk full of power arms (pick from 1 of any 4 or 5 guys to be your closer) and let's not forget their versatile line up. You can really mix and match any number of guys, basically anywhere in the lineup to keep things fresh and interesting. I love the fact that they platoon at 3 or 4 positions too. Just adds an extra exciting element to the game. Did I mention their uniforms?! The yellow ones are my favorite. Lastly, Addison Russell? Billy Burns?! I'm getting carried away, but honestly, this is one of, if not THE best team to roll with in a Franchise this year!Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Started as the Twins, love me some Joe Mauer and looking forward to seeing Buxton and Sano develop. 4-1 after the first 4 games on the back of some solid pitching from my starters (apart from the opening day from Nolasco). The bullpen has tried it's best to sabotage some of starters efforts so seems to be an area of concern for me and maybe grabbing another starter.NFL - Giants]

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
So far I'm 22-8 this season. After a rough Yankee debut, Cliff Lee has been money and the reassuring factor I needed ni the Yankee rotation.
IN his last two starts i've gone 16 innings of 2 run ball against the Angels and Rays...not too shabby. I think I may adjust the sliders as I'm on Veteran++++ difficulty(Dynamic) but i'm still winning pretty convincingly.
On the other hand, Michael Pineda has been struggling, so I may look to move him at the deadline if I can build up his trade value.
Pitching Stats: W L ERA GS QS CG SO SV BSV WHIP
Masahiro Tanaka 6 0 0.53 6 6 4 3 0 0 0.88
Hiroki Kuroda 5 0 2.57 6 5 0 0 0 1.14
Cliff Lee 3 3 4.95 7 3 1 0 0 1.37
Michael Pindeda 2 3 4.58 6 3 0 0 0 1.22
David Phelps 1 2 5.14 6 2 0 0 0 1.33
My bullpen has been solid, not great but they've done enough to keep me afloat.
Meanwhile in the division...
I'm up two games on the Jays who are just as hot...while the O's are about 8 games back in the Cellar after a terrible start.
More to come soon!Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
So far I'm 7-6 with the Red Sox. Just lost a series to the Yankees 3-1 due to a heartbreaking 10th inning loss where my outfield forgot how to catch. My pitching staff is doing well and Big Papi is smashing the cover off the ball but Pedroia isn't doing great, he's hitting .212 with 2HR and 6RBI in the lead off spot. Grady Sizemore has been a pleasant surprise and is hitting .400 with a couple dingers and half a dozen RBI. Daniel Nava is struggling as is Mike Napoli, hitting .162 and .208 respectively. Getting solid performances out of Jonathan Herrera and Will Middlebrook. Just gotta get defense down better and figure out how to hit better with risp.

Those of you who don't play all 162, how do you determine which games you will play?"Hate my game, hate my swagger, my hunger. Hate that I'm a veteran, a champion. Hate that, hate it with all your heart...

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
The alternative methods I see most are: play one, sim 5, which allows you to play with each starter in the rotation in order; play one game per series, which obviously allows you to play more games while also simming a good number; and pick a starter and play all his starts, which splits the difference in terms of games played vs. simmed and allows you to really feel like you earned the stats of your favorite pitcher.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
I also use QC, my method is play 3 or 4 games in a row or then sim the next. Depends on if I like the matchup, if it's a home or road game, as I like to play on the road.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Started out 1-2 with the pirates. Starting a series with the cardinals. Alvarez has started out horrible. Has 1 hit through 3 games. McCutchen has started out well .333 2 home runs 3 RBI and Russell Martin batting 364....

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
Year 6 of my Rockies sim chise and I finished 97-65. I play all the playoff games. I beat up on the National League beating STL 3-1 and Pitt 4-0. Met the Red Sox in the WS, playing at Fenway is just awesome. Wound up winning the series 4-2 for the Rockies first world title. Here is the final lineup for the world champs.

With QC, I'll be playing at least 3/4 of my games, most likely all 162.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress
I just played Opening Day with my fantasy drafted Houston Astros team. I thought the draft went really well as my lineup and pitching staff are both very good on paper. I'm thinking about dangling Matt Adams out there in an attempt to acquire more right handed pitching for my bullpen, but it's still early in the season.
