Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
So I have been playing 16 The Show on PS3 for about half a week now, and I legit bought a PS3 at the same time because I needed baseball in my life as an Xbox One user, and the only gripes I have about it so far are:
1. The RTTS outfield animations and camera make me want to pull my hair out 90% of the time, but I can handle that.
2. More of a problem is the wackiness of RTTS equipment. My sunglasses have to either be on all the time, or none of the time. Even if I set them to just fielding, they will stay on when I bat, and it is really annoying. The other issue is that the equipment I have like Under Armour gloves or things of that nature don't look like the cards in game. I still have generic batting gloves and cleats, even with the upgraded stuff equipped even when I'm actually in game.
3. Game will randomly freeze up for a few seconds here and there. It has resulted in me missing pop flys and striking out a few times, but nothing too serious.
The equipment is way more frustrating than the gameplay problems, as it kills some of the immersion in the game.Comment

Yes they are in the PS3 version, and when you start a Franchise or a Season it gives you the option to allow them to be in or out of that Season or Franchise. In baseball, you don't know nothing.

was going to upgrade to PS4 but decided to save money by sticking to my PS3 for at least one more year. GREAT decision and zero regrets. the PS3 version looks better than i was expecting and plays smooth as silk!!!Comment

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
I think you have to pre-load earlier this year.
If I pre-load while he's fielding the ball (on the ground) or if I see him starting a "run up and catch and throw" animation, I'll pre-load before he actually catches the ball and so far I've not seen that annoying animation.
It's a bit silly any fielder other than a completely fish-out-of-water guy would do that, imo.

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
KB,
I thought it was my fault as well, but on the two instances that I actually recorded (Who knows where I can access them) I was preloading the throw home before the ball even got through the infield.
So, in an attempt to see if it was a pre-load issue, I thought maybe I pre-preloaded, and threw off the fielder, but I can get the outfielder to throw it correctly, if there is no impending runner taking an extra base.
Once the baserunner takes off for the next base, be it third or home, that is what triggers the crow hop, glove slap delay.
Then, maybe I thought it was because the outfielder was not playing his number one position, so I edited the outfielders so that they were in their #1 spots. I didn't know if maybe the "animations for out-of position fielders" had made its was to the PS3. But that did not help, and I am not sure what causes the animation to happen, or what triggers it to make the unnecessary motions.
Here the funniest thing to me... I am not sure why that glove-slap, crow-hop, glove-slap throw mo-cap was even made?? Who does that? Now, if the game is getting confused about the baserunners, and the animation was made for a single into right field, with no one on base, and the outfielder does a casual throw to second, or the cut off guy, and they wanted to add some realism of a crow-hop, glove slap and throw, I guess maybe??
But to have a runner on second, barreling towards the plate, on a pre-loaded throw and have a left fielder at Fenway, glove-slap crow hop etc, makes no sense. There is no reason for that animation to be there, and it was not ever a problem last year.
I saved both of the replays that showed this, and I saved them using the camera behind the leftfielder, so you can clearly see the ball fielded prior to the baserunner hitting third, which typically, on an accurate throw, is a clean out at the plate.
How do I view those saved movies, and how can I share them?

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
Okay, I am now under the impression that there is something more sinister at work than just the animation...
It appears to be tied into the base runner decision, as I have had the following happen at least three times.
Runner at first, ball hit to the center fielder, he fields the ball, I have pre-loaded a throw to third base, the runner, sensing the animation coming, runs towards third, and my third baseman catches the throw from CF in close proximity to the bag.
At this point, with my third baseman holding the ball, the runner inexplicably takes off for home, just rounding third, and never stopping, as my 3B holds the ball. An easy throw to the catcher, and the runner is out, and I get a cheap out, on a gaff running play.
So, I look at those outs as retribution for the runs allowed, due to the glove-slap crow hop, but it doesn't make it right.
TLDR: Somehow the throwing animation is tied to the runner, and his uncanny ability to sense the animation, and run accordingly.

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
Funny I started talking about this because I scored a run last night from the CPU outfielder doing that same animation and I doubt the CPU has issues "pre-loading" throws.
You are probably right that it's tied with the runner decision/determined result of his decision. It's might be a "this is how we show a play succeeding" animation. Just like almost every time a runner slides feet first on a steal attempt, it's an out.
I wish they didn't put it in the game, too. Don't know if any OF would do that when trying to cut down a runner. Casual throws back in would make sense, but not trying to start a relay throw to gun down a runner or trying to cut him down on his own.
For the videos, I don't know how to share directly from PS3 (never did it before), but if you can put it on a flash drive and then you can upload it to youtube or such from your PC. That's how I would do it."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
Another patch is here (1.03), here are the details:
Here is the link
The team behind Sony' "MLB The Show 16" has released another patch in hopes of fixing the ongoing online issues. The latest patch which comes in at 44 MB features a few fixes for Diamond Dynasty mode as well as crashes in Conquest, Season, Franchise and more.
1. FLS traffic reduced and signaling fixes. This should resolve the “Challenge Failed” issue encountered when connecting to any Head to Head Online game mode.
2. Play VS CPU (in Diamond Dynasty) had some pitcher energy issues. Entering conquest mode (3 inning games), then backing out, would negatively affect all Pitchers energy when returning back to Play vs CPU in Diamond Dynasty mode. This is now fixed.
3. Entitlement pending popup fix on boot up. For new users (with entitlements) or for users who purchase on the website. When those users logged in, they were not being alerted that they had entitlements pending. This is now fixed and users will be prompted upon boot up to redeem these products.
4. Within Diamond Dynasty, the PA Announcer would often say the user's location audio as opposed to the opponent who is up to bat. This is now fixed.
5. Within Franchise mode, the title could crash when attempting to navigate the Schedule during the Offseason with a Year-to-Year save file. The game could crash trying to access pitcher stats in the offseason. We added a check to prevent updating the pitcher data during the offseason. This issue is now resolved.
6. We've removed the reward popup from screen flow to speed up services. We still show it on login and when returning from game so this should have no issues
7. The game would crash in defensive positioning quick screen during online head to head games. This is now resolved.
8. Card Rewards in DD had misnamed animations in the post-game reward screen, causing the wrong cards to disappear, which caused user to think he was getting a different card in some situations. This has been fixed.
9. Within Season/Franchise mode, all games on the schedule were said to be starting at 1 PM. This UI visual but has been fixed.
10. Within Conquest mode and Diamond Dynasty-Play vs CPU, there was a crash in the pause menu within the Advanced Pitching options.
11. The Ball Trail was stuck on at all times in RTTS modes, no matter what the option was set to. This should now be fixed.
12. Within Season/Franchise, when progressing with a Year to Year save, the game could crash during the offseason while scrolling through particular parts of the menu. This is now fixed.
13. During online games, if the batter called a timeout (or practice swung) at the same time the pitcher was attempting to pitch, the game would occasionally freeze, and neither user could progress or use their pause menu. One user would have to quit the application. This is now believed to be fixed.
14. Fix for online entry options getting reset before going into an online game. Retractable roofs would not close, night and day, weather options, and month of the year would function. This is now fixed.
15. Sounds of the Show could crash within its menus, if you had certain music files with large amounts of metadata. Rare enough but could affect a number of users. This is now fixed.
16. Please refrain from using Perks as a RTTS pitcher as it will cause the game to crash for the time being. We have a fix and it will be included in our next update.
Earlier this week, the first official roster update for the game was released.
Included in the update is the Colorado Rockies' Trevor Story who comes in with a 76 overall rating and an "A" rating for potential. Other high-rated rookies include Kenta Maeda (77) of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Jeremy Hazelbaker (70) of the St. Louis Cardinals.
While the update added more than 20 players to the game, there are still a few missing such as a Dae-Ho Lee, Tony Wolters, Tim Melville, Brett Nicholas and more.In baseball, you don't know nothing.

yep, 157 MB download.
Looks like they are attempting to get the network fixes and online stuff done, but I have yet to hear about any gameplay stuff.
In fact, is there even a "Bug-Fixes and Issues" link for the PS3 that is officially being looked at?
I know we have the red-headed step child to the PS4, but golly, we still matter, right?

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
I never played online but at one point it was messing with even offline players.
I don't know why they can't get it right. It can't be a surprise any more...
Hopefully now they'll focus on gameplay. Autobaserunning turning off when you lead/steal is going to be addressed as well as other issues. Hopefully it means smarter runners as well."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

If they have the online issues taken care of in the first two patches, then I'm sure the next one will have to help the gameplay. I haven't been burned too much by this... yet. When the Giants come to town, it's Bye Bye Baby...Comment

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
This happened to me earlier in a Conquest game. Speedy guy on first, single to center, I load my throw to third and the runner goes past second while my centerfielder does the YMCA. I fire an offline throw to third and Mr. Speed just keeps on running like he had a green light. A medium strength throw to home gets him out by a mile. Almost felt like a "make-good" call on the part of the computer.
See that kind of stuff is what really gets me about base running, even more than auto turning off when steal/lead.
That's just ridiculous base running decision. Not only should fielders not being doing that "double clutch" animation like they have to reset their throw but that runner should have sat on 3rd.

Re: MLB 16 The Show Impressions from us puny "last gen" PS3 Consoles
So the work-around for the double clutch crow-hop is to double pre-load the throw from the outfielder.
Ball is hit to right field, and you know the guy is going to try and score from second, as the ball passes through the infield, you preload the throw home (I use Analog throwing), and then, just as the guy is about to get the ball, you pro-load again.
I have had some moderate success in double-loading, and actually got the animation of the outfielder throwing the ball so hard, he does the tumble/roll/throwing animation, and we did cut down the runner at he plate.
Not exactly fixing it, but making it work.
