The only spot for Jesus Montero is a Catcher... Jorge Posada is like 40 years old and cant catch nemore... expect Francisco Cervelli to do alot of catching this year and next year Jesus Montero to be there catcher full time... I was watching Yankees Magazine on tv and they profiled Austin Romine and hes hit 28 homers and had like 110 or 120 RBI the last 2 season for Single A Tampa Yankees... Overall there is no spot for Montero besides catcher... Mark has 1st locked down for a while... Cano, Jeter and ARod got there positions locked down for a another couple years... Granderson and Swisher have there positions locked down for a while... the only other position open is Left Field and there is alot of rumors going around they expect Carl Crawford to be in a Yankee Uniform at the latest during the next offseason and as early as now or as a more likely timeframe the trading deadline..... overall there is no spot for montero other than Catcher...

Padre request. I just came home from Best Buy and looked over the roster, i know he's not much of a prospect anymore but could you include 2b Matt Antonelli? He was left out of this years game

I hate to burst your bubble....but
since Montero at this time, is progressing as more a one-dimensional player (offense), don't be surprised that he will be used in a trade...perhpas not this year...but in the future...

I am fully aware of who the Yanks have in their system...and if Jorge has another great year, you figure he will be THE catcher for the Yanks for perhaps another two years....he won't catch 130 games, Girarid has stated recently that he should be good in the 120 game range. No matter what, he will still be the man. He turns 40 in August of 2011.

Cervelli or Mike Rivera will be the #2 guy...but don't fool yourself, there's a reason why the Yanks ARE (not a rumor) looking at him (Montero) in other spots...to ship him off...

At the worse, he's a DH/part time catcher for someone else

Time will tell...but don't believe for a second 'that his only position is a catcher...' That won't be with the Yankees, and it may not be with another club either.

I'm not even a Yankees fan and I know that if they have someone who does not progress as they like or who is a few nothes down on their depth chart....as Michael Kay so aptly calls it, "seeeeee ya!"

          LOL

and youre basing that on what information?
if the yankees wanted to trade montero they would have to get halladay from the blue jays. the blue jays wouldnt make any deal with the yankees unless montero was the center piece for it.
so that really shows how anxious the yankees are to trade him huh? lol

I think that in a trade situation Montero would probably have more value as a catcher. Any team can switch him to a new position, so I can't really buy the whole "they're doing it to ship him" argument either.

First, yes Montero did get some practice in at first base, but so did every other catcher in the Yanks farm system. It's standard and not because they are showcasing him for a future trade.

Second, to say that he isn't progressing is laughable. Forget his bat and the 460 ft bomb he hit in spring training bp, defensively he has been improving. His % runners thrown out went up when he got promoted to AA last year. He has a strong arm, but also slow foot work since he is large. Tony Pena is working with him on an unique move that keeps his right foot planted. He will never be the second coming of Pudge, but he doesn't need to be. He is only 19 and is determined to stay in the position.

Cervelli is the #2 catcher and Rivera is the #2 in AAA and the one called up because of an injury unless something drastic happens. The Yanks have no intention to rush Montero and you won't see him in the majors till Sept when the rosters expand and the AAA season is over. The Yanks didn't trade away Joba or Hughes for Santana / Halladay, so I can't see them trade away their best hitting prospect in a long time either.
                  very well put.
                  montero isnt going anywhere.

I hate to burt all your bubbles, but Austin Romine will most likely be the Catcher of the future for the Yanks. I personally know that they are grooming him. Montero will be a DH most likely in the big leagues.

TD, Francisco will be an SCEA guy and I think I speak for a lot of us that we all have love for Heisey and he will be included in our rosters.

I honestly dont see how he wont be in the opening day lineup. He is solid and I think he could be a dark horse to win the NL ROY given enough playing time. People do not realize that he has three maybe four above average tools that play. He is an educated thief on the base paths, has exceptional power, above average speed and arm that all play. I am not a Reds fan, but I will be routing for him this season.

Knight do you have any time table on how long it will take to get the first official release of these rosters once the game comes out? Not that I am trying to rush you guys or anything, but I'm thinking about not rushing out to get the game on opening day and instead waiting for the release of the rosters w/ actual prospects.

But then again, I might just get it so I can play in an online league or something.

I agree. My plan is for me to apply the ratings edits to the set after the pitch edits are inputted which is usually version 2 based on last year.

Oh that sort of means I have the pitching spreadsheet done too, as I said I would
