    Re: 1989 Complete Rosters

I see thebaseballcube.com has amazing historical batting order information.

Looks like the A's order was very complicated, with McGwire bouncing between 4/5, and the main real constants Hendu at 2 and Canseco at 3. I would defer to playoff / world series lineups to set teams' final lineups.

I usually don't mess with the lineups too much. Every time you try to start a new season, or change anything, they get messed up anyway. Also the numbers get messed up (retired numbers revert back) and I always manually change them back. I usually just use my A's and set the line up for the best match ups. The lineups were changed routinely in '88, Hendu hit anywhere from 2nd -5th. Parker hit 4th-7th, McGwire hit a lot of 4th-6th. I'm using Hassey vs' Righty's with Steiny playing every third game, and Steiny against lefties. In '89 they had more of a set line up once Canseco came back. The lineup in '89 was:

      Henderson
      Lansford
      Canseco
      Parker
      McGwire
      Henderson
      Steinbach/Hassey
      Phillips
      Weiss/Gallego

        Re: 1989 Complete Rosters

FINALLY got a chance to play another game with these and I'm beginning to notice a pattern here...of awesomeness!! I decided to try out the Reds so I chose the Pirates as my opponent. Going into the bottom of the 9th the score was knotted up at 1 off solo homers by Chris Sabo and Mike LaValliere (sp?). One of my favorite players of the era, Eric Davis, doubles to lead our half of the inning so things are looking good. Sabo comes up next and I'm thinking the game is in the bag. Whiff! Down on strikes! Next up is Bo Diaz and after working to a full count I start getting nervous that I may not get him home. But Diaz launched one out for the 2-run walkoff HR - my second walkoff hit in as many games with these! If all goes as planned I'll be starting a season with these tonight. Still have to decide who I'm going to be but I think it will be between the Reds and the Mets.

        Thanks, PJ!

Just about done with everyone from '89. I've got every player on the roster minus a few Braves. Everything is done except for the new players faces, about 141 I believe. I'm also going to remove retired players and move them the Rockies/Marlins/DBacks. I'll try to get these done ever the next few weeks. Summer starts for me in a couple weeks, they should be done soon.

In other news, my '88 season is going pretty well. I'm still messing with my sliders, I've got about 10 guys hitting over .300 right now. Canseco, Henderson and McGwire are hitting a combined .350 26 HR's 90's RBI's through 40 games. Most everything else looks normal. Still tweaking the the sliders though.

I gotcha. I guess lineups don't make much sense for season mode, but they're nice for exhibition mode.

You know what would be a nice feature? A way to "stamp" or "imprint" preferred baseline lineups/batting order. It's obvious that the AI will never independently decide on real-life lineup and batting order. But if a roster set had some memory of a "default" lineup/batting order, it could default to those when possible (depending on trades/injuries.)

It would add a lot of realism to season mode.

Are these finished? If so where can we find them?

I've got about 40 more faces to do and then they will be done. I hope to have them out by the end of the week. When finished, I'll upload them to the vault.

Ok everyone is created, gear is fixed, and the players shoes have have all been changed to reflect their new team. All I need to do is move retired players to the Marlins/Rockies/DBacks, and mess with the retired jersey # fix. Should be done very soon.

Currently playing a game using the 1988 rosters. One thing about your rosters that I like is most if not all the players seemed to be named and are announced. Some of the other classic rosters I use didn't get that to work. You must have a secret huh?

I try to get them as detailed as possible.

The 1989 rosters are almost done, retired players are moved, all I've got left to do is re-rate all of the AAA guys. I'm about half done with the NL. As soon as my wife lets me, I should be able to finish the rest in the next sitting.

Ok, 1989 is up and in the vault. Rosters are set and ready to go for season play. Guys who were injured or didn't play in the majors (Wegman, Winfield) are not on the 40 man rosters, but they're still there. If you want to add them for season play, you'll have to add them manually.

If there's still enough interest I may do a '90 set to pass the time. Enjoy!

If I read correctly these rosters include the minor leaguers, as well? Kudos, to you then. Haven't even played with them yet but I don't need to, sounds like you put a lot of time and effort and care into them.

On a related note, it's a terrible shame that historical rosters need to be redone for each year's version of the game. I wish SCEA could develop a way to transfer rosters forward from the previous years' version.

Think of the time it would save. It seems that if the new code precludes this from happening, at the very least a roster conversion utility could allow some data (names, vitals, and ratings) to be transferred, setting problematic categories to some type of default value. It's too bad SCEA hasn't found the time to do so.

But I don't even know how much of a headache such an undertaking would be.
