Re: 1987 90 man roster with correct vitals

I had made a flurry of trades near the deadline.

The CPU came to me with offers I could not turn away.

I was able to trade away Dave Winfield, Ron Guidry, Orestes Destrade and some other prospects in exchange for

    Eric Hanson
    Kevin Brown

My rotation in year 2 could be:

    Hanson
    Brown
    Appier
    Rhoden
    Leiter

So I am pleased with my rebuilding of the 87 Yankees in addressing the pitching staff. They will be very young but full of upside.

Mattingly is having a fantastic year as well as Ricky Henderson and Ron Kittle.

Playing out the string and will bring up a lot of kids (Roberto Kelly the pitchers I traded for, Kevin Mass etc) for the September call ups.

I am looking forward to year two and actually being more competitive.

Again amazing roster set and I am very much looking forward to the 84 set. Also sorry about your loss.

    Hope all is well.

Re: 1987 90 man roster with correct vitals

I think I may have just landed a gem in my Rule 5 draft at catcher.

Some unknown 25 year old kid who I never heard of.

I also landed Juan Gonzalez and Edgar Martinez in some big trades sending Ron Kittle and Ron Guidry out (Guidry went to Texas with Kittle for Gonzalez and Kevin Brown)

The CPU does not value prospects when gunning for a pennant as Texas made the post season and lost to the Seattle Mariners in the ACLS. Seattle also traded me for Dave Winfield and Orestes Destrade for Eric Hanson and Edgar Martinez.

So my starting lineup for years 2

      Ricky Henderson - CF
      Willie Randolph - 2B
      Don Mattingly - 1B
      Jay Buhner - RF
      Claudel Washington - DH
      Edgar Martinez - 3B
      Juan Gonzalez - LF
      Rick Cerone - C
      Bob Meecham - SS

      Starting rotation:

      Eric Hanson
      Kevin Brown
      Kevin Appier
      Rick Rhoden
      Al Leiter

My staff is very young and I am sure will have some serious growing pains this season.

My question is can I hurt their development if they get bombed a lot in The Show? I feel they need to play now to get their feet wet. Or should I send down Appier and Brown for some more seasoning.

Tough decision as I was throwing out guys like Tommy John and Joe Nikero, Charles Hudson and Dennis Rasmmusen in year one.....blech!

How is everyone else doing in their 87 franchises?

As you can see I am playing fantasty baseball with my Yankees LOL. But I am having a blast reshaping the league as their have been numerous trades between the cpu teams

Re: 1987 90 man roster with correct vitals

Yeah its good to see how someone is doing with these and reshaping history. I am currently 8-10 with my Tigers. Have been getting pretty good starting pitching, but my bullpen has blown quite a bit of leads and Hennemen has blown at least two saves. Its been quite frustrating. I wanted to get some more speed up top and made a trade for Vince Coleman. St. Louis accepted Larry Herndon and Darnell Coles. I have also been hit with the injury bug losing Pat Sheridan and Baker for 1-2 months b/c of shoulder problems. Young and upcoming Smoltz is my #5 starter, he is 0-2 with a 7.49 ERA. Probably could send him down, but will continue to use him. As far as trades go, that is about it, I am kind of strapped as the Tigers Farm System is not that great. with the Exception of Smoltz, Fryman, Cuyler, and Hoiles, which I don't remember him being in the system. I am playing the younger guys like Beane, and Baker, and have Called up Walewander. Guess I am a little bit more patient than Sparky....(LOL) RIP Sparky!!

Man, you are in Year 2 already? I need to get started on Year 1. I plan on diving in this weekend. I think I've finally settled in on sliders for this set, too.

Yeah after the all-star break I was way out of the playoff hunt. So I started playing one game every series and focused on being a GM to reshape the team.
My pitching staff was horrid year one. I could not get any traction going in the season, had an aging staff big time.

I am playing my normal 100 plus games in year 2. So it will be a long while before I get to year 3.

I have never had this much fun with a baseball game ever. And I played MVP 2005 for 4 straight years. This game will challenge that record thanks to this roster set!

              Bumping this.

For those that have not DL this roster set. You owe it to yourself to do so.

              Serious fun. Great work guys.

It's one of the highest-rated sets in the vault, so move your cursor over the Ratings % tab and then hit the button (not at my PS3, so can't remember which one) to sort by %, and it should be on the first or second page.

This roster really is great. I'm planning on diving back into my Mets season soon.

Yeah this set is just so money. I will continue to play MLB 11 even though I will be getting 12 as I love what i am reading here about the massively improved ball physics. That is a huge game changer.

But this may be my favorite roster set ever for any baseball game I have ever played. It is my golden age of baseball. I just love playing against all these teams with so many players I know and watched for years.

I just swept the Blue Jays and remembered that the Yankees picked up Jessie Barfield. I will try to pry him away from them! Meantime they are starting Cecil Fielder over Fred McGriff. I wonder if a few years in they will get Mcgriff in there and trade Fielder. I can see playing at least 6-7 seasons with this current chise I have going.

About to download these rosters, excited to start a franchise with my Blue Jays, I had a question though,

What stadiums do you use for teams that had their ballpark built after 87 such as the Blue Jays or White Sox?

I use the classic Yankee stadium. However for those teams without a classic park available....I just use the current one.

                        No biggie.

                        The set rocks.

Oh most definitely, started my Blue Jays franchise by beating the Twins 2-0 on a George Bell walk off, Jimmy Key was outstanding too!
