    Re: 2012 OSFM: Seattle Mariners

Mike Stanton makes me drool...one of the few young hitters I might've liked to have had over Montero. I don't see Pimintel approaching anything close to Mike Stanton level...BUT, he is a lefty, which could translate to nice power numbers in Safeco. He has that going for him.

Apostle, how do you like the Hawks new set? I'm loving them, particularly the gray they've incorporated.

Jackson named the most talented minor league team by Baseball America

Man oh man moving to Tennessee sounds so good right now...

Don't know how you want to handle this R&S, but Carter Capps is gonna be a bullpen guy this year, should we make the change in the next set or do you see this as only being temporary? From the bullpen his fastball needs to be 95-99mph

Is he a left fielder in the manage roster screen or the lineup screen? If its the lineup screen, don't worry about it, as long as his primary position is still third its fine

Hmmm thats weird i guess knight or ridin must have edited his position then. Its possible he didnt have LF in his secondary positions before, so the only way to make him qualify for that plus 3B and 2B was to make LF his primary

James Paxton is a MAAAAAAAAAAAAN! Wow. Kid dominated tonight, 5+ IP with 10 K's and only two hits allowed... Capps had 4 K's in 1.2 IP, gave up 2 hits though... It's going to be a fun year in Jackson... So much talent on that club.

Loved seeing the M's swinging the bats well tonight... Figgins and Ackley with three hits... Seager and Saunders had good games... Montero and Smoak will both get it going before too long.

Saunders needs a new stance. Not sure what it should be. I like stance 202 for Ackley, even though it's not an open stance. Seems like the hands are close and the two handed follow through is nice.

Yeah for some reason in the OSFM set Paxton has a lower k/9 rating than Walker when last year he had a higher k/9 at a higher level... Paxton's calling card is strikeouts, and since he's a B in-game it should already be in the 80's, if the 0 walks is a sign of things to come He definitely becomes an A for me.

I've thought he was an A all along. I don't hate the B rating, but felt he deserved an A. I just think for a guy that many believe has a ceiling of a #2 on a good team and a possible future ace... People forget he was a first round pick a couple of years ago and he has been impressive in the minors... Still only 23 and like you said, if he keeps the walks down, he will be in Seattle sooner rather than later.

Agree on his K/9... It should be in the upper 70's/low 80's right now.

When I asked Ksig about it here was his reasoning:

As much as I want to tell you that he could be a number 1 or number 2 which I dont have any doubt that he could be, I just dont see it right now. He is extremely fragile and is always tired or sore which leads to shut downs.

Worse case scenario is that he becomes a dirty shut down lefty out of the pen.

I think that a B is a fair grade for him.
Makes sense since we have no idea why he was taken out after only 80 pitches (probably just a pitch count), I don't mind a B either as long as the ratings match up. I'm sure if the M's called up the big three right now they'd struggle but I guarantee they wouldn't suck. I firmly stand by my belief that Walker and Paxton would have no problem racking up 220+ K's in their prime, the way its set up in OSFM they would be lucky to get 180.

I think the 80 pitches was purely an early season thing. Very few young pitchers are going to be stretched out further than that this early in the season. I've never read that Paxton gets tired easily, only that the one year he basically missed has been a factor in getting his endurance back up. I don't see that as being a viable reason for not giving him an A, but I guess I can see the reasoning from his point of view and I don't mean to knock it. An A potential grade, IMO, should not be as rare as it is now only because the lack of progression that I've seen in simulations. I said earlier that my results could have just been an anomaly and the sliders might have played a factor, but very, very few elite prospects turned in to good MLB level guys. Even fewer became all-stars.

He is right though, a B is fair and maybe I need to not be such a homer, but many just believe Paxton has ace potential. It may never be realized, but if I had my way, he would be an A. As much as I love Hultzen, I think Paxton has better stuff. Both will be very good, though.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work on the OSFM set. As I'm playing one of my franchises with the Mariners, I really appreciate your attention to detail on all the minor leaguers. I noticed that Alex Liddi had a nice spring and made the team, but SCEA has him rated quite low. I was wondering if you'd mind sharing how you'd rate him if you created him. Thanks!
