Re: OS All-Time Classic Roster (The Show '12)

For game purposes I tweak all ratings for realism. Too many rosters have player ratings at 99. 93-95 is tops for me in any one category. Example Don Sutton and Greg Maddux fastball velocity at 99. These guys couldn't break a pain of glass and velocity isn't what made them Hall of Famers. I see avg outfielders who were great hitters with 99 arm strength. Clemente and Mays get 99 ratings, Reggie and Bo Jackson along with Ichiro get 96. For in game play purposes how they rate on the team rosters doesn't exactly cooincide with their play ability.

You guys are arguing about WAR ratings which is exactly the purpose of it's creation. To debate the perfect baseball player. It's an educated guess as to how players from different eras would stack up against each other. The great thing is everyone can test and sim their own fantasy. If you sim a multi season using the same roster and ratings, I guarantee no season will show identical stats. This includes team and individual categories. This is why I love classic roster play..

Seriously, Maddux is 99? My personal favorite pitcher of all-time, but that is just plain bad. I have been playing Oakland, so I haven't encountered Maddux for tweaking purposes. Maddux himself would be the first to tell you 99 is a joke, it was the incredible backspin and pinpoint accuracy that made him a "diety" in the baseball world. Tops, 94 MPH, more like 90-91, but with his back-up fastball (absolutely mastered) and smart tactical approach to each at-bat, THAT was what made him so good. NOT a fast-ball dominant pitcher in any form or fashion.

I'm not trying to argue, I just think it is a really stupid stat!!!

I'm pretty sure that Maddux, Sutton etc don't have 99 in velocity on this roster. I haven't checked it in awhile but I think that Ryan, maybe JR Richard, and a couple relievers have maxed out velocity on this roster.

I wasn't critisizing your roster PJ. What I do is take all the players from rosters and vaults that I like based on faces and then save them into one of my own 3-4 rosters. I play either exhibition, franchise, season or rivalry, then I tweak based on gameplay. I add or edit 6-8 players after every game to build up a base or trade players. This way I don't spend too much time away from gameplay. You can spend hours in roster creation and I don't have that much free time.

Because of the limited load roster options I save them as my own roster because they originate from soo many sources plus me and I can avoid corruption. (more of a 2K problem than any other genre) This helps me remember what mode I was playing for the corresponding roster. From there I do what I want, sim ahead or simply play the game.

Is the 40 man roster still going to happen with this classic 25 man?

Just wanted to post a quick "Thank You!" to all who were involved in putting this roster together.

Grabbed a cheap copy of MLB12 (haven't played this series since MLB08 or 09) and DL'd this roster a few weeks back and started a fantasy draft franchise with two other friends. There has been a ton of fun had since we started. Though, what we discovered was that the real fun is going to come in season two with so many one year deals on the books.

Season one has been a story of putting together your dream team and pitting it against 29 other dream teams. Season two will be "how many of these guys can I keep around, within my budget?".

Easily, one of the best multiplayer franchise/leagues I've been involved in. Thanks again for all of the effort.

Just an FYI and I realize I'm pretty late to the party and its off subject anyway, but WAR is not an imaginary stat on an imaginary player.

Its a stat that assigns value to an active player based on how well his replacement would play in the same position.

So for instance, David Wright's WAR in 2012 is 6.7.
So that means that the Mets won almost 7 more games with David Wright at 3B than they would have with Justin Turner at 3B who's WAR is only 0.2.

The stat dictates how many wins the team has with Wright above his Replacement, Turner.

Hello, all. I just purchased a ps3 and MLB 12 The Show. I would love nothing more than to be able to download the classic player rosters, but I can't find the vault! I've searched and searched but can't find it anywhere!!

Also, I'm not sure how to proceed once I do find the vault. I don't have my ps3 hooked up online, nor do I have an online account. Would it be possible to download the rosters to a flash drive and put it into my ps3?

Forgive my ignorance....I spent a few hours trying to figure this out on my own before signing up for an account here so I can post this question.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

                          Thanks and take care...
