Not sure if this is directed at my calculator but if it is:

Using the calculator will provide the pitchers with their own unique ratings but they are all calculated using the same formula, so no distinction is made between the NL and AL.

The difference is generally seen in the ratings however through plate vision, discipline etc.

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

A couple of people have asked if I have created a roster with my calculator and not surprisingly I have!!

The roster is (I think) a modified version of the OSFM that was posted by Hustlin Owl in the 25 man thread. Full credit goes to Hustlin Owl, the OSFM team and anybody else who had anything to do with the creation of the roster.

Where possible I have used the three year average but failing that, it is either average or single season stats that I have used. I have re-rated every player (I think) that appears in the calculator and I have not made allowances, just put in the ratings that the calculator gave me.

The game plays well on all levels, although having simmed a few seasons, pitching has the slight upper hand... possible the pitcher k/9 figures are slightly high.

The file is in the vault uploaded today 04/15/13 under the name OS RATINGS CALCULATOR and the owner is SAINTJIMBO1884.

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

Have put a new version of the calculator available for download in the opening post.

The new version now has a "user input" tab that allows you to put stats in for players that are not included in the calculator and it then provides ratings.

By choosing the level in which the stats were obtained, it also makes allowances in the ratings for MLB or AAA (both leagues).

Still a bit of a work in progress!!

There has also been a slight modification to the vision formula.

The compatabilty version that works with older version of Excel and Open Office has been updated to include the "User Input" tab.

Download from link in opening post.

I have also been asked to make the roster available online as well and you can download it via the link below.

Jimbo, Great spread sheet. I was just messing around with it, and a few questions came up. If we were looking to create some legends, should we input career totals or just career highs for each category? Also, what values are needed to get a number for fielding and reaction?

I'm not sure if inputting historical players will work out ok with the calculator, especially if it's players during the PED era. You will probably end up with players with power ratings of 150+ and similar vision or discipline ratings due to the amount of free passes issued.

However, it would be entirely up to yourself whether or not you chose to put in career totals or careers high... the important thing would be to do the same with every player.

Also, I'm guessing but if you were to just use career highs, again it would probably be a lot of ratings over 100??

If you click on the "Calcs" tab you will see all the formulas that I use - the only problem with historical players would be (for example) working out what the average RF/9 for that year was.

im relatively new to baseball so, i have alot of questions naturally

should pitch count factor into stamina, or just IP/GS/7x100?

also for power how does, if it does at all, the rating calculator take into account a guy getting XBH do to his speed rather than his power swing?

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

I suppose you could use a formula that incorporates pitch count instead... something like number of pitches/games and then using the player with the highest figure as a 99 rating and basing everyone from it.

Re. the power issue this link should explain why I went down this road, instead of using slugging or iso.

                    Great spreadsheet!!!!

Does anyone have formulae for pitching control and pitching break?

                    Thank you in advance...

Yeah sorry about that, I actually removed the link the other day, as I have been working on a new one that I will be uploading soon.

You can download the latest version (of the old version) here:

And I should point out that a lot of the formulas that I use on the above one, I no longer use in the (yet to be released) newer version, as I have improved upon them.

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

The good news is that the new version of my calculator is now available.

The bad news is that due to it's size (14mb), I am unable to upload it to Operation Sports!!

You can however download it from here:

The calculator now produces ratings for every player attribute... apart from infielder arm strength... based on players MLB stats.

Also included in the .rar file is another Excel worksheet that shows the Maximum/Minimums that I use in the worksheets.

I have used the actual MAX/MIN figures in the calculations but you may feel it more appropriate to use the 5th top etc. hence me including this file.

As with previous versions, all the formulas in the calculator can easily be adjusted to your preferences via the 'Calcs' tab.

The User Input tab has been scrapped for the moment but it may reappear and unfortunately, if you are using an old copy of Excel, it won't work due to all the 'IF' statements - I will hopefully get around to releasing a 'compatablity version' like I did with the previous version.

Oh and it goes without saying that there could be the odd error, so if you spot one, feel free to highlight it!!

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)

Have updated the calculator with pages/stats for 2013.

I have not worked out any maximum/minimun figures etc. so I would ignore the figures for 2013, unless of course you choose to use any of the formulas that don't require this info.

This is mainly me doing preparation work for the end of season!!

Also, a couple of people have asked me about what I think are the best formulas to use but to be honest, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. It is all down to personal choice and a lot depends on which skill level and hitting style you play with etc.

I have chosen mainly to go down the comparison path, so the best stat for each attribute gets a 99 and everyone works down from that.

The biggest issues I have though are trying to work out suitable vision and discipline formulas/ratios, especially as a player's plate vision has such a huge impact on the game.
