Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
That's the file that shows how I came to the averages etc that are used in the calculator.
You want to open the bigger of the two files and then it's just a case of selecting a name from the drop down menu on the home tab.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
Okay, had to download MS Office for Mac to be able to view it. Now I get to this page, how do I use it? How would I figure out stuff like ConR? I'm completely new to this kind of thing, sorry.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
The version of Excel you are using does not support the IFERROR function that I use in my formulas, hence all the hash marks etc.
The calclulator is designed for use with excel 2010 onwards.
I am about halfway through finishing a version that is compatable with older versons of excel and other free software, so if you give me about an hour, I will get it finished and upload this version for you to download.
The calculator works out all the figures for you via the calcs tab and you can see the formulas I use and other alternative formulas that could be used instead on this page as well.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
This is the link to the fully working calculator for those with Excel 2010 and later:
Below is the link for the compatability version that will work with older copies of Excel, as well as Open Office and pretty much any spreadsheet that can't handle the IFERROR function
As mentioned previously, the calculator is designed for use with Excel 2010 and later, so there may be some anomalies with the "compatability version" averages due to it trying to work out averages for when there are errors etc. The individual yearly figures will be ok though.Last edited by jimbo_1884; 08-29-2013, 07:16 PM.Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
So if I wanted to enter in stats from a different year to calculate the ratings, would i be able to?Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
The old version of the calculator had a user input tab where you could put in a players stats (either MLB or AAA) and it would work out figures based on the stats and at what level they were achieved.
Unfortunately, I took this out of the new version, as I prefer to use a comparative method for working out ratings and so it was pretty useless to me.
I may include it again in the next update though.
If you are talking about full year stats for all players, say for the 2001 season then I suppose you could just copy all the stats into the various 2009 pages for example (making sure all the headings are in the same place) and the calculator would work out all the figures for you in the 2009 headings (which would really be 2001).Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
Yeah.... the only problem would be if you used comparative formulas to work out your ratings, you would need to work out new yearly averages or top rated etc like those that are included in the figures excel file.
What year are you interested in doing??Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
The calculator works by looking up and pulling all the relevant stats needed for working out ALL the calculations onto the 'HOME' tab and then the 'CALCS' tab uses the figures on the home page to work out the ratings and then sends those back to 'HOME' tab.
So, if you substituted all the 2009 stats for 2001 stats (for example) then the 2009 ratings would actually be 2001 ratings... if that makes sense!!Comment

Re: My Ratings Calculator (with download)
Thanks to Fangraphs it would pretty much just be a copy and paste job of all the stats.
It would then be a case of you choosing which formulas you thought were best to use out of those listed in the 'CALCS' tab and if any need averages or maximums etc working them out.
You would also need to add the new (old)players into the drop down list.
Would probably take about an hour to do tops!!
I might actually look at a way for doing a custom year as it could be a good/popular option.
(Right it's past 2am over here in Scotland, so I'm off to bed!!)Comment
