    Re: Fictional Rosters 13

Since we've had a setback with Woj's real life getting in the way, as it often does, the project is set way behind. I'm just not gonna have the time until June to put any work into these. Soccer season is in its last couple weeks before State, then as soon as thats over Spring Football heats up. In June things slow down a lot. Unfortunately thats quite a ways off. :-/ Oh and a baby coming the second week of July! lol

I vote that bloodwerth take the lead, as he was instrumental in last year's version. I haven't talked with him about that, so others may have to beg him as well Its a big undertaking, and not be taken lightly. It's a great project though and definitely worth being done.

I for one do not mind the wait just hope the rosters can be completed at some point. The 2011 ones had me playing that game nonstop until I decided I needed 13 for the new realignment and playoff structure. Without the fictional rosters the game will have a much shorter shelf life for me. So please take your time these rosters are amazing and well worth the wait.

Unfortunately I don't have time to work on these for a while. I'm coaching t-ball & soccer, teaching Sunday School, plus work and family.

              Re: Fictional Rosters 13

OK guys, I did it. I have created a clean roster for us to build upon. All MLB service time players have been removed. The name of the roster is "Clean Slate" [Look for it under my name].

Now with this out of the way, hopefully we can knock out this roster in no time. I don't want to just come in and take over, so I will defer to the veterans (like Sluggbugg, bloodwerth and HustlinOwl) to get this organized. I will, however; begin creating players this evening [starting in reverse order -- I will start with the NL west). Hopefully some others will begin now as well, although I guess the best way to do it is just let one person at a time work on the roster, but I personally don't feel like waiting a month or more to PLAY the game.

I will check back later this afternoon (I am EST here) to see what, if anything has been hashed out. If I have not heard anything by tonight, I will probably just go ahead and start, and upload the new roster with NL west sometime tomorrow.

By the way, DeathMetal released an updated version of his Fictional Roster spreadsheet, so I would suggest using that. He added almost all the new features from this years game (except the the new follow through animations). You should really get it, and be sure to thank him for his hard work!

Please contact me with any questions, requests or whatever. The naming convention I used is easy to understand, and you will notice that I left in the occasional player whose secondary position is something other than what can be user-selected (all positions [think Mike Morse], corner positions, etc).

The link for the generator seems to be the one used last year, at least it's the one I downloaded a few weeks ago. Is the one I have the most up to date? I noted some teams that I would do in bloodwerth's google doc, is that we are still going by. Sorry to ask, just want to help out and do this correctly. If anyone has any tips I'll take them.

                    Re: Fictional Rosters 13

I know I said I didn't want to just walk in and "Take Charge", but I think that's what I am going to do, barring objections. The reasons for this are three fold:

                    1) I imagine I have more free time than most of you -- I am presently unemployed, and spend 10-12 hours gaming each day.
                    2) I am very anal (OCD?) -- I check, and double check EVERYTHING. I am not a perfectionist, but many would say I am close.
                    3) This is a very personal project for me, something I have been doing since the show 09 -- by my self. This is the first year I decided to look to the community, I just never thought there were other people like me. Because of this, I have notebooks full of players I have created in past years (many of you may as well).

Anyway, my plans for this are as such:
The blank roster file is in the Roster Vault [called 'Clean Slate' -- look for it under my name]. I suggest those of you who want to help download this file, and start with the teams (I see many of you have already agreed on) you like/are willing to create for. When you are finished with your team, send the file to me, where I will export all the players, and import them into the "clean" roster, making a balance/quality check as I go. I will set the Lineups and Pitching Rotation for the teams (MLB, AAA, AA, A) as the cloning process may leave many players playing the wrong positions on the lineup cards. I realize most people will probably use a fantasy draft, but not everyone, so it would be nice to have these rosters as professional as possible. I will also Check for duplicate names, omissions, and the little things like that. Please don't be offended by this, as you can see by point 2 above, I like things to be 'right'). I respond very well to constructive criticism, so feel free to the same with mine. As we progress, I will upload the merged together rosters under different version names (v1, v2, v3; you get the idea). At this point, feel free to look through what is done and make suggestions/requests.
I feel this method is better than letting just one person at a time work with the roster, especially as I have the time to do all the exporting/importing. The thing we need to do now is get a definite sense of who is doing which teams- so we don't end up doing double the work. Although if someone does do a duplicate team, It is not the end of the world, as I can simply export/import them to another, unfinished team.

Things to think about while working (yes, this is work, although fun work!):

Please check all 90 players per team for quality. Many of these are SCEA blank players, and they should all have audible names, but check to make sure. Please make sure that every player has an AUDIBLE name, it is no fun when a player gets announced as "number twenty-eight". I don't expect everyone to edit every single player of their chosen team, but customizing some of them will make the whole roster set seem more "realistic". Many SCEA players use simply 'Generic 1' for batting stance and 'generic 1' as a pitching windup. At the bare minimum, please randomize these, and make other edits as you see fit (face edits are nice, but I know this is VERY time consuming). I recommend using DeathMetal's fictional Player Creator(version 2.1 has more options, but either will work), as this will speed up the process greatly; but use your judgement! It is a fantastic tool, but it is not perfect. Many of the names are not in the audio bank, which is unfortunate. Also the palmball has been removed by SCEA, but still shows up in random pitcher repertoires. Again, use your judgement.

Okay so here is the deal -- I may have underestimated the time commitment necessary to deliver an entire division by tomorrow. I am almost done with the Giants, but I just don't think it will be possible to have the entire NL West by Friday (especially as thorough as I am trying to be). I will share what I have done (Giants) to interested parties. So I will finish the Giants, and check the status of what is going on. Again, my plan is go backward from the bottom, so unless I hear otherwise, when I finish with the Giants (sometime tomorrow[Friday]); I will start on the Padres.

So go ahead and get started guys! Just let us know who you are working on!

                    ETA:

I don't know how realistic it is to have a May 1st release, but I would like to try for that. Just need to find out how many people are working on this, and how many teams they can do in a day.

Ok guys here's where we stand:

I completed the Giants and Padres (took a little longer than I realized, about 9 hours all told -- but I am OCD). I am waiting on Mr Random to finish Athletics, Rockies, and Houston. When I receive these (along with whatever anyone else has been working on) I will merge the rosters and post the result, for anyone to see what we have been up to and offer suggestions (or just praise!). I would like to post the first merge version sometime tomorrow (Saturday)-- if possible.

Here is what I have seen people said they are working on:

Mr Random - Athletics, Rockies, and Houston [Also an unnamed team, since I did the Giants without realizing he had started on them]

                        D2theb86 - Diamondbacks, Braves, Reds

                        Bloodwerth - AL East

                        RushfanO2721 - Royals and Nationals

If this is incorrect, or things have changed, please let me know. I will continue my work in this order: Dodgers, Cubs, Pirates, Brewers, Cardinals.

It is a TON of work and the guys should really get a lot of love from the community!

Ok, I am going to start this evening... sorry to ask these questions, again this is my first time. Am I just creating the name and look (off of DM's generator) I am not changing their attributes right? That has been set up already?
I ask only because I took my first player and he had a potential of C, and put in the generator's ratings and he ended up A potential. We don't want that, or do we?
