I ask only because I took my first player and he had a potential of C, and put in the generator's ratings and he ended up A potential. We don't want that, or do we?

I find the generator is a useful tool for names and appearances, but it does tend to create high ranked players, so it is best to set the stats yourself. Also pitch selections, because the generator uses a staright RNG when picking pitches, meaning (outside of the first type) there is an equal chance of all pitch types, and there just are not that many screwball or forkball throwers, for example.

I am going to post what I have completed tomorrow, so people can see what I have been doing, and offer suggestions as needed-- or to use as a guide. I have been re-tweaking faces, I'm not sure what everyones expectations are (they look good to me, but I want to see what the community thinks).

          Re: Fictional Rosters 13

All right - so I have uploaded here my work in progress, for people to see. After some questions about the quality of this project, I decided it best to let everyone look at what is done to see if these created players are up to the standards of the community. I think they look good, but a parent never thinks he has ugly children, right?

Anyway, look through (Giants and Padres) and see what you think. I think the accessory edits and pitch selections are pretty good, but again that is my opinion. I was also careful to be check that no batting stances/pitching windups are re-used, but I may have let one slip through the cracks. In regards to accessories, I think I went for a realistic approach -- you will see no wild colors or players who look like an advertising billboard.

I would also appreciate any comments on the names (this is my favorite part of creating players) -- in case I accidentally used a real name, or an actor or something, any and all suggestions are welcome.

If you guys think these look good, I will start merging the file with the other teams I have completed, along with any other teams I receive from you guys.

I really hope some of you take the time to look through what I have done, so I can judge what areas need work. I know this is a fictional roster, but I still want it to look good (semi-realistic). Thanks for all of you who continue to work, and as I hear feedback, I will make changes as needed and proceed with my other teams! Thanks again!

(Remember, this file has only Giants and Padres 100% complete)

I had a question about ratings and potential.

Suppose if a pitcher has a B potential but I dont up his ratings to a B potential..maybe mid to high 70s?

            Is that ok or nah?

Btw I got the starting rotation and line up done for dbacks

I find you need to use your judgement. Depending on what age you made the player, a B player in his 30's should be where he needs to be for the most part (there will not be much change in his stats over the next few years) while a B player who is 19 or 20 could still have a long way to go reach that B level. i.e., a 20 year old may only have an overall of 52, while the 32 year old is at 82 right now. Of course there are exceptions (thnk young phenoms like Harper or Strasburg). I hope this helps.

                  Re: Fictional Rosters 13

Having not heard any response to the partial roster I posted last week, I took that to mean that perhaps people were unhappy/unsatisfied with the players I have created. I have spent the last few days tweaking the appearances (faces) of the players, to hopefully give them a 'less generic' look. As I have stated earlier, this is a project I have a lot invested in, and I want it to be good. I have not heard much from the others who were assisting in this project, but rest assured -- my work continues. I have (after several days of re-tweaking, as stated above) 3 teams at 100% (SF, SD, LAD) -- along with most of the NL central, which I am presently giving a QA pass. I really hope people are still interested in this, but regardless, I shall soldier on, if for no ones benefit other than my own. This of course means that this roster is going to take longer than I initially thought, but I think the quality of the finished product will be well worth it. My plans are to post my second update sometime in the next few days (by Friday, surely) so that people may evaluate the state of this project. I really hope for some feedback, be it positive or negative. Negative feedback is a chance for me to improve!

As a side note, if anyone creates any knuckleballers in their teams, could you please let me know (I have not made any) who they are? I would like to limit the total number to 2 or possibly 3 (and maybe 1 or 2 in the minors), but surely not more than 4 overall.

                          Quality Poiners <cracks whip>

                          Some notes/pointers about quality:

We need to strive to make this a quality project. The higher the quality, the more people will download, use, and enjoy our roster. To this, please take keep in mind the following pointers when working on your selected teams.

                          1) Every team has 90 players, and all 90 need to be edited. That is, all 90 should have names (both written and audio) and positions (suited to the teams' needs), a unique face and stats. Simply changing the names of two cloned players while leaving everything else the same (appearance, stats, accessories) is not good enough. We need to imagine that each of the 90 is an individual person.

                          2) Realism (to an extent) is important. It is unrealistic to have every player on a teams' lineup be a right-handed hitter, just as it is unrealistic to have 4 of the starting pitchers throw left-handed.

                          3) Top 50 prospects. For the most part, these players do not need editing. Sure you can edit their name and appearance, and even tweak stats a little, but it is unrealistic (and just plain odd) to have a 34 old 99 rated top 50 prospect.

                          4) DeathMetals' player generator is a great tool, but it is just that -- a tool. Use your judgement when editing players, please don't simply enter values blindly and move on.

                          5) Batting stances / Pitching Windups As a general rule, try to not have anyone on one team share a batting stance or pitching windup. Preferably, every player in the league should be different, but this would be mind-boggling difficult to control. I think the one per team rule is good.

                          6) Depth - where possible, try to ensure some A level players in the minors as well. (Not every team is equal, I know, but don't simply make the MLB team full of A prospects and leave AA full of D's)

I know that this project is a lot of work, and I truly appreciate all of you who are helping. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Soccer season is over so I will have a couple days this weekend to check out the file. Football practice starts on Monday so it's back to 12-14 hr days for me but I hope to get some time with the game soon.

Huge thank you to comatosedragon and team for picking this daunting task up this year!

I played a couple of games with the rosters from 12 and think they were great. Surprised to see so few downloads of these rosters in the vault. I hope you get these together for 13. Looking forward to it.

We released several updated versions of the rosters from 12. It had a pretty hard core following but it's a pretty niche project in the scheme of things.
