No idea how highly he will be rated, but Soler has been good for me in past years so i'll probably go for him first. I might not bring him up at once since i want to check out Brett Jackson aswell or I might get an outfielder in a trade when im getting rid of a few players aswell. So im not 100% sure how my outfield will look.

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
I will be trying to trade away Edwin Jackson, Jose Veras, Luis Valbuena, and Darwin Barney right away. I will look to move Nate Schierholtz and Jason Hammel near the trade deadline.
Prospects I may try and move are Brett Jackson, Josh Vitters, Christian Villanueva, and Dan Vogelbach.
My ideal end of first season roster will look something like:
SP:
Jeff Samardzija
Travis Wood
Jake Arietta
Chris Rusin
Jason Hammel or James McDonald
RP:
Pedro Strop
Wesley Wright
James Russell
Hector Rondon
Blake Parker
Carlos Villanueva
CP:
Kyuji Fujikawa
C:
Wellington Castillo
John Baker
1B:
Anthony Rizzo
2B:
Emilio Bonifacio (SS/3B/OF)
Arismendy Alcantara (SS) or Logan Watkins (3B/SS)
3B:
Mike Olt (1B)
SS:
Starlin Castro
LF:
Junior Lake (3B/SS)
Josh Vitters (1B/3B/RF)
CF:
Ryan Sweeney (OF)
Brett Jackson (OF)
RF:
Justin Ruggiano (OF)

I am going to try and trade for Sean Marshall from the Reds right of way, but that may be the only player I am looking for in particular.

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
Maybe a September call up if Iowa isn't in the playoffs, but they will be year two call ups. No need for Baez or Bryant with Bonifacio at 2B, Olt at 3B, and Castro at SS. Plus with Alcantara getting called up I would start to pigeon hole high level prospects for time when I make him my every day 2B and change Bonifacio to my everyday utility man.Comment

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
Will this be your opening day roster? I like that you have Hendricks up in the bigs. Do you plan on trading E Jackson right away because I don't see him. I also like Alcantara opening at 2B. But why are you going with 13 pitchers and 12 batters? I would have Sweeney in the Outfield and drop down Rusin. Also not sure if I would have Jackson as another outfielder. Not sure what he is rated because I am waiting for the PS4 version to drop. But either way I expect you would have more success with that roster than the team is having in real life.
I would try to make some early trades if not my roster would probably adjust.
I have 13 pitchers and 12 batters b/c that's actually the make up of the cubs right now.
If you dropped Rusin down who'd be your 5th starter?
I have Jackson up b/c he's a left handed hitter, and I wanted to have another one on my bench, which I just realized I put down his throwing arm not which side he bats from.
I'm certainly hoping for more success.Last edited by trackstar121388; 05-01-2014, 02:30 PM.Comment

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
It might not be my opening rosters depends on how easy some on the players are to trade.

Sweeney bats left handed too. I was just curious about that one, I don't know either of their specific ratings. I might consider Brett being another Outfielder depending on how I feel I swing with him vs Sweeney. I sometimes like to go off the feel that I have for a certain batter.Comment

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
I would have Jackson in there as my 5th starter. Well technically it would be Hendricks. Obviously if you were to trade him then that would open the door for him and I probably would have him there too. But I would look to keep Jackson probably until July, if not until his contract runs out.

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
As far as the game goes, Jackson is actually a very good player. He is a great defending outfielder with enough speed to play anywhere in the outfield and be dangerous on the base paths. He is well rounded at the plate, it has been very easy for me to lay down bunts to get on base. He has enough power to hit 20+ home runs every season with regular play. The only downside is his ability to get on base, which can be overcome with decent play by the user. Overall a pretty decent player on the game. If only he were like that in real lifeComment

Any idea on way Neil Ramirez isn't in the game yet? He's been called up for a while now. I mean I know he's only be in for two innings so far but still.Comment

Re: Cubs 2014 OSFM
Knight has my roster, a few notes.
- Barret Loux reportedly had TJ surgery. I opted to to replace him with Jeudy Valdez due to a lack of SS depth on the roster. I'll hopefully have Loux as an extra player post OSFM release since he's already created.
- I did not make Casper Wells as he is inactive and added Stephen Bruno instead.
- Torres and Jimenez are at 18 years old, you need to edit them back to 18 after one year in franchise. In RTTS and online franchise they'll just be a year older.
- About half the faces were created by authentic and other editors from past OSFM (edwards, Black, Ramirez), Bryant was a MLB 13 vault face that I edited a bit. I touched up a few as best I could, but I am not that great at editing faces. The rest are being handled by Knight or whoever he has create them.
- Only stance I am not happy with is Baez. Went with Adam Jones since it resembles his hand placement and leg kick, but no stance has anything similar to his timing mechanism/bat flick which is disappointing.
- Individual pitch ratings progress similarly to the /9 ratings so I had to drop them down a bit from what their actual current stuff is. This is to prevent someone like Neil Ramirez from having a 98-99 mph fastball a few years in with a 90 mph slider. So pitchers starting out should be a bit below what their actual stuff is, but will progress...probably beyond their current stuff since I probably didn't reduce them enough to start. But it should be more realistic than everyone throwing 3-4mph faster than usual a few years in with a 15 mph difference on their change.
- From what I have seen, potentials generally increase (about +0.4/yr POT). In a 4 year sim I saw several +9, +7, +6 and many +3-4 total increased over that 4 years. Only a few players dropped. Its nice that players will also drop in potential, but it felt very unbalanced in my sims. I'm not sure how the game handles this so maybe once the other OSFM players are in it will balance out.
- Overall rating calculations seem to be a bit lower, varying by position, this year compared to last. So a 79 player in MLB 13 could be 74 in MLB 14. Their ratings are identical, but the game calculates the overall differently this year and it seems universally lower.
This if my final roster I sent to Knight.Last edited by MrOldboy; 05-01-2014, 01:46 AM.Comment
