I don't think you understand the way options work totally. When he was sent down to Iowa out of spring training that activated his third option year. During an option year said player can be promoted and demoted an infinite number of times. Each player has 3 option years, once those are used up a team has to keep the player on the active roster or take him off the 40-man, which puts him through waivers, in order to send him down.

Yeah, for some reason I didn't realize that sending him down in ST activated his option. Once I saw you post I realized how stupd that was.

Regarding OSFM the overall rating calculation has been changed this year and it is affecting how players' ratings are at their peak/ceiling.

OK, in the end it seems like its not that big of a deal if the potential is a bit higher than what the player's actual peak overall rating is. So even though when I rate Baez at peak he goes from a 96 in MLB 13 to a 90 in MLB 14 with the same exact ratings, he'll still get a mid A potential as I think that is what other OSFM editors are doing.

I'm thinking Blake Parker is going to get the chance to be the Cubs closer going forward, only a save here and there at first, but a chance to prove he can be the man. Jake Arietta must be getting close to the end of his rehabilitation stint for Chris Rusin to come up from AAA, pitch 5 good innings, and get sent right back down. So when Arietta comes up, who goes down? What is going to happen with Villanueva? So far he hasn't shown to be capable of starting or relieving this year. Maybe Villanueva is about to get sent down or even DFA'd, either way I don't see him in Chicago much longer.

I had my pick, I'd get rid of Veras. He has looked terrible. Although that probably isn't going to happen so either Parker goes back down or Villanueva does one Arrieta is up.

We need someone to step up bad as the late inning losses are just depressing to the fan base. As of now Strop will probably get first dibs on the closer spot even if he is not an ideal candidate for that spot.

The secret weapon though may be Rondon, he didn't look that sharp with his control in ST, but he has been throwing the ball harder and spotting his pitches well so far this year. Others have noted it seems like he has a lot more confidence in his fastball than he did in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if Renteria goes to him if a situation comes up soon.

It is really depressing. Not sure who I would like to see as the closer though. Samardzija or Wood? If they could start and close that would be good for me haha

It is just like last year except this time we are actually scoring runs and the bullpen is still blowing it. I could see Rondon taking the position. A lot of times, when the manager knows the guy is going to make the roster after spring training, they will tell the pitcher "focus on spotting this pitch" or "take something off this pitch" to the point where they are pitching out of their comfort zone, but once the season starts, then they start using their arsenal the way they like and focusing more on getting outs than learning to control pitches, and they do just fine. Probably what they did with him.

                  Hi I'm new here.

First I wanted to thank MrOldboy for his work on the Cubs roster.

Second I was just curious how the roster was progressing. I'm not trying to rush you or seem impatient I'm just curious on where you're at in the process. If there was a place you posted that. I'm sorry I must have missed it.

Third I was curious how you guys do your cubs Franchise? Do you call up players around the same time as the Cubs do in real life? Do you trade away prospects for established players? Do you call up a lot of prospects and start them instead of some of the players who are currently starting? If you do call up a lot of prospects what does your line up look like?

Fourth What are your guys feelings on Darwin Barney? I know he's not the greatest with the bat. I personally like him despite he's struggle with the bat sometimes b/c of he's defense, and at least in the game I can get him to have a respectable percentage.

I'd like to start to be active around the forums getting input and providing input when necessary.

Again thank you for your work on the Cubs roster.

                    Cubs 2014 OSFM

I am currently about 75% done entering in players and rating them. The top prospects are done, doing the fillers/ previous MLB players with service time.

After that faces will get copied over from 13. Once I get the roster to knight he'll get the remaining faces done or I can get someone to do something.

I usually play it somewhat realistic. I'll probably end up calling Bryant, and Baez up in the first year sometime around August. I won't trade away any of the top prospects. I might look to trade Samardzija, Hammel, or Jackson though. I like to keep things somewhat realistic but still do what I want at times.

For me Barney won't be a starter. I'll have Bonifacio and Valbuena at second. With another platoon in center. I'm just not a huge Barney fan. I'll probably bring up Baez and then at that point I will trade/release Barney.

I am a combination of everything personally, for example:

I will try and trade Hammel or Jackson to open up a starting spot for Chris Rusin (I like Rusin). I probably won't call up any of the SP prospects until next season (but I will play many of my AAA games to play with my prospects).
                          SP:
                          1) Samardzija
                          2) Wood
                          3) Hammel
                          4) Arietta
                          5) Rusin

as for the relievers, I am also not trying to "rush" anyone, plus I like most of the current MLB relievers (even if they suck this year ). I will try and trade Jose Veras though, let's be real, he is a sign and flip, so I'll flip him. My relievers will look something like:
                          RP:
                          1) Pedro Strop
                          2) Wesley Wright
                          3) James Russell
                          4) Hector Rondon
                          5) Carlos Villanueva (swing man)
                          6) Blake Parker
                          CP:
                          1) Kyuji Fujikawa
Since I traded Veras as my closer I will just use Kyuji Fujikawa in the closer role.

As far as Catchers go, for now I will leave it at Castillo and Baker; however, if I can get a decent catcher in a trade while uploading these vets, I will. I always seem to get Christian Bethancourt from the Braves.

I like Rizzo at first, a left handed power hitter, what's not to like. No reason to bring up any of the minor leagers, I'll probably leave Vogelbach at AA.

At second, I may try and unload Barney. He is a great defender, but he is not the future. I could keep him and use him for my backup middle infielder (2B/SS). Bonifacio is doing great though and I do not see any reason to get rid of him, should be a fun player, plus he is still young. I could call up Alcantara to use as my utility infielder, but I don't feel like I have enough playing time for him to rate calling up such a high prospect, so I'll probably keep him in AAA and if I need to fill the spot, probably call up Logan Watkins

At third I will keep Olt as my primary player, and probably try and unload Valbuena (not a fan). I can use Junior Lake as my back up third baseman. I will probably keep him though since he can play 2B and 3B, and the closest prospects I have that play those positions are superstars.

At short, keep Castro and leave Baez at AAA.

                          infield looks like
                          C- Wellington Castillo
                          1B- Anthony Rizzo
                          2B- Emilio Bonifacio
                          3B- Mike Olt
                          SS- Starlin Castro
                          C- John Baker
                          2B/SS- Darwin Barney/Logan Watkins
                          3B/2B- Luis Valbuena

At outfield, I like what we have and see no reason to change anything. I may try to offload Schierholtz, but that is about it and doubtful.

                          LF- Junior Lake
                          CF- Justin Ruggiano
                          RF- Nate Schierholtz
                          OF- Ryan Sweeney
                          OF- Ryan Kalish

That rounds out my MLB team, but what is more important is who I have to use on my AAA team, it's stacked

                          SP:
                          James McDonald
                          Kyle Hendricks
                          Pierce Johnson
                          C.J. Edwards
                          Neil Ramirez

                          RP:
                          Alberto Cabrera
                          Arodys Vizcaino
                          Justin Grimm (Swing Man)
                          Brian Schlitter
                          Zac Rosscup
                          Marcos Mateo
                          Frank Batista

                          C- Luis Flores
                          1B- Lars Anderson
                          2B- Arismendy Alcantara
                          3B- Kris Bryant
                          SS- Javier Baez
                          LF- Brett Jackson
                          CF- Matt Szczur
                          RF- Josh Vitters
                          OF- Chris Coghlan
                          C- Eli Whiteside
                          2B- Chris Valaika/Logan Watkins
                          3B- Christian Villanueva

Makes the AAA games worth playing to me. This is just my view though, just wanted to let you know how I do my dynasty. Sorry it took so much room.

At third I will keep Olt as my primary player, and probably try and unload Valbuena (not a fan). I can use Junior Lake as my back up third baseman. I will probably keep him though since he can play 2B and 3B, and the closest prospects I have that play those positions are superstars.

At short, keep Castro and leave Baez at AAA.

                            infield looks like
                            C- Wellington Castillo
                            1B- Anthony Rizzo
                            2B- Emilio Bonifacio
                            3B- Mike Olt
                            SS- Starlin Castro
                            C- John Baker
                            2B/SS- Darwin Barney/Logan Watkins
                            3B/2B- Luis Valbuena

At outfield, I like what we have and see no reason to change anything. I may try to offload Schierholtz, but that is about it and doubtful.

                            LF- Junior Lake
                            CF- Justin Ruggiano
                            RF- Nate Schierholtz
                            OF- Ryan Sweeney
                            OF- Ryan Kalish

That rounds out my MLB team, but what is more important is who I have to use on my AAA team, it's stacked

                            SP:
                            James McDonald
                            Kyle Hendricks
                            Pierce Johnson
                            C.J. Edwards
                            Neil Ramirez

                            RP:
                            Alberto Cabrera
                            Arodys Vizcaino
                            Justin Grimm (Swing Man)
                            Brian Schlitter
                            Zac Rosscup
                            Marcos Mateo
                            Frank Batista

                            C- Luis Flores
                            1B- Lars Anderson
                            2B- Arismendy Alcantara
                            3B- Kris Bryant
                            SS- Javier Baez
                            LF- Brett Jackson
                            CF- Matt Szczur
                            RF- Josh Vitters
                            OF- Chris Coghlan
                            C- Eli Whiteside
                            2B- Chris Valaika/Logan Watkins
                            3B- Christian Villanueva

Makes the AAA games worth playing to me. This is just my view though, just wanted to let you know how I do my dynasty. Sorry it took so much room.
That's an awesome breakdown I appreciate it. I was taking a look at the cubs top prospects and a lot of them seem to be outfielders. Would you try to trade some of them for some prospects at other positions?

I get too caught up in the prospects. I prefer to groom my prospects in house, so eventually I will have:
                              LF Junior Lake
                              CF Albert Almora
                              RF Jorge Soler
                              OF Matt Szczur
as my primary outfield team with maybe Josh Vitters who can also play 3B & 1B. I will get rid of Brett Jackson though.

Sorry I should have made that more clear I didn't mean you had too many I was referring to the when I looked on the cubs website at their prospects there seemed to be a lot of them so I was wondering if you'd trade them for other prospects.
