Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

I have games with 10+ hits but I'm only scoring 3 or 4 runs in some of those games. I hit into my fair share of DP's but since the Yanks aren't the fastest team out there it doesn't seem so bad. But I agree, 10 hits a game is certainly not out of the question.

How has human HR's been for everyone?
Since restarting and using these sliders exclusively I have hit I think 5 in 8 games with the NYY (Damon-1, Jeter-1, ARoid-1, Nady-1, Swisher-1). Quite a few deep flies though so I am getting close. Are you guys getting similar numbers?

      Shady,

Nope, L stick all the way for me.

However, just last night Omar Vizquel(!) homered and the pitch was right down the middle, I just hit X and he homered lol.

I only just hit X if I think it's exactly in the middle of the zone, which is rare. So maybe once every other game I just hit X on a swing.

I've got 19 in 14 games with Texas. They'll come. Be patient.

Oh and just wait until the cpu robs you. Kinsler's had two hr's brought back in 14 games...man that sets me on fire!

Spyder when you use the L stick do you pick a spot before the pitch and move your stick there or do you actually wait and follow the pitch? I seem to have more luck focusing on 1 spot.
In my last game I had 2 runners on, Cano up. Price for TB has been struggling to get anything near the plate so I figure I'd look for a high fastball so before the pitch I move the stick up and hold it there. The pitch comes in and I hit it over Upton's head in the gap for a triple. But when I wait and try following the pitch I end up often missing badly.

Thanks Spyder. I used to use the L stick with MVP 05 all the time and someone told me to always swing up (even if the pitch was down) and my homeruns started coming in bunches. Don't suppose that logic works in The Show by any chance.

I use the zone hitting option, and you have to definitely push the stick to the zone a (milli-second) before you hit the "x" button. If the pitch is right down the middle i will hit "x" only. This sort of pitch is rare though, so most of the time i am picking a zone + pitch type ( depending on the count) and moving the stick just before i hit "x". Try this in BP and you will get a great feel for it.

It depends on game situation for me but I normally don't look for a specific zone/spot.

I never hold the L stick in a certain position either. I react to the pitch. Depending on the pitcher obviously, I have my good games and bad games. This game seems to have a snowball effect on me sometimes, where I'm seeing everything, laying off bad pitches and ripping the meaty ones.

Then...like tonight vs McGowan, I got tore up. He had me off balance all game. I got a 1st inning homer from Hamilton, followed by back to back doubles by Cruz and Davis...I'm up 2-0, and then he was lights out. I was frustrated and pressing, and it showed b/c I ended up becoming impatients. I couldn't hit a thing after that.

haha yeah good old MVP pre-loading...you definitely can't do that in The Show, at least I can't. I don't touch the L stick until the ball is pitched, and sometimes not at all if I know it's off the plate.

Hitting is very frustrating in this game, but its oh so rewarding. It's by far the most realistic hitting engine I've ever played with.

Psycho...what are your thoughts on the pitch control slider? i am using a set very similar to yours, but have pitch control for cpu at 0 to try and up walks and pitch counts. i also have it at 0 for me too (classic) in order to make it a little more difficult to pitch. i know control sliders don't control it totally, so i also have consistency down 2 for each. just wanted to know your thoughts.

Here are some stats, I'm thinking about starting the season over as this was more of a trial run. I had to change the sliders so much to fit my style of play. I just now have gotten the set I want to play with. But here are stats after 17 games...

                      Offense

                      .257 Average
                      .306 OBP %
                      .378 SLG %
                      .684 OPS

                      Pitching

                      3.70 ERA
                      123 K's
                      42 Walks
                      1.14 WHIP
                      .225 Average vs Righties
                      .241 Average vs Lefties

I think by starting the season over and playing with a consistent slider set the stats will look better than these do. Like I said I was just having to play around with them to much. I have them the way I want them now though.

lowering Control doesn't increase walks. It actually has the opposite effect because it usually results in "meatball" pitches and mistakes that end up middle of the plate.

Lowering the Consistency and Strike Frequency gives the best results for walks.

Ok Psycho after doing some tweaking of my own over the last few weeks and playing lots of games with these sliders this is what I've settled on. The only changes I've made are the following.

                          Pitch speed 0 (-5)
Base Runner Steal Frequency 3 (-2)
                          Injury Frequency 4 (-1)
                          CPU Pickoffs 1 (-4)

I had previously messed with CPU Consistency and Strike Frequency but I think you have it perfect at 4 (-1) and 2 (-3) so I've gone back to using your set there.

I think I'm ready to play ball for real this time. Thanks for all the hard work in getting this set up and letting us play around with it. I think I've finally found the perfect set for me.

                              Hi ,
walks are there maybe just lower pitch speed a bit to get better reads thats what I did and it works fine

Bulk how has Throw errors at 4 been working four you ?

Its seems to have eliminated the random BS throw error at the worst time without losing the realistic ones !
                              Nice job mate !

Walks are absolutely fine, im averaging about 3.5 walks per game at the moment, MLB teams average between 3-5 over a whole season roughly. As pbz said, control is not how to affect walks. Show patience and you will walk.

Thats exactly what ive been seeing, still getting the odd error which is good, we should be, but the ridiculous number of easy throws hurled way over the first basemans head has almost been eliminated, the odd one still happens but thats fine, it does happen irl, but there were far too many.

Braves, thanks for the stats mate and yes, even through 17 games the stats dont represent a big sample, i would 100% suggest starting a new chise now you have your set down, ill look forward to the results of that
