Re: ***The 'Perfect' Slider Set*** MLB 09 - The Show

A few random thoughts/comments I thought I'd share in regards to some recent questions about these:

First off, these are working very well! Nicely done Psycho!

    1) To the guy who has the stealing home issue. I'm 99.9% positive you have a faulty or broken controller. If you've tried other controllers there might be something wrong with your actual PS3.

    2) For anyone seeing different results in exhibition versus season/franchise mode. There is a difference, it happened like that last year too. You wont notice it at first but just wait about a week or 2. Some of it is streaky but the AI certainly seems to play a bit tougher on the mound and they do throw more strikes.

I had one more but I forget now! Doh!

Psycho, what strike percentages are you seeing with these? I was using pbz06's, and the percentages were about right, but he had consistency at 3 instead of 4 and strike percentage at 0 instead of 2. I'm just curious.

In my opening 4 franchise games ive been plunked only once. It will even out, i wouldnt worry about it, sadly theres no "plunking" slider

Definately more streaky, but so it should be, thats what happens over the course of a season, one off exhibition games dont take into account form boosts etc. On the pitches more strikes argument, aces may do for sure, naturally, i only walked 3 times in my first 2 games of the season in Toronto with Detroit, the last 2 games of the set i walked 6 times in both games to give me 15 walks in 4 games and in the top 10 in MLB, albeit so early on. Walks, as with everything else, will depend a lot on whos on the mound against you.

Seemingly spot on really, around 65-70% for aces, 60-70% for average guys and sometimes between 50-60% when a pitcher is very off and walking a lot of batters. Its going to vary a lot obviously.

I was playing A's style ball, taking a lot of pitches, and I was seeing omre 70-75% for aces. I'm going to have to do more labbing, but the strike percentage slider seems key this year. I can see consistency at 4, to keep passed balls to a minimum (as opposed to 3), but I'm still unsure about the strike %. I'd be curious to see what others using these sliders are finding.

I haven't been seeing many CPU wild pitches or hit batters (barely any at all, or at least not more than default) with CPU Consistency at 3. I'm actually testing at 2 right now and still not seeing problems from the CPU. It's kind of personal opinion in a way because I personally like to see a wider range of pitch locations from the CPU. The more consistency they have, the more they pelt the corners, and the Balls/Strikes are a bit harder to differentiate. With lower Consistency, it broadens their pitch locations a bit. A lot more Balls are easier to distinguish from a Strike. This is more evident with lower tier pitchers. Going against their 4 and 5 pitchers makes you feel a bit mroe confident in drawing walks.

Im now 3rd in the league with 19 walks from 5 games, i see plenty of balls and thats due to the strike %age being fine, just superb for me.

                  Stick with it!

I'm a big stickler for walks, and trust me, you will get a good amount with these sliders.

Yeah, you will get some walks with these sliders for sure. I have 25 or so through 12 games. I am a hacker too!

I guess I'm just not patient enough.. In my Redsox franchise I'm 1-5 with only generating 3 walks... I know I've been hearing stick with these sliders.. They will work.. I'm still waiting.. I think it's the pitching I suck at.. The CPU hammers me most of the time and they always get the lead before me... I think my only win came with Wakefield pitching..

I'm using meter pitching with catcher calling the pitches.

Is anybody seeing better results with these on Veteran other than All-Star. I stink at this game and I'm thinking about going down to Veteran. I have the lead up until the 9th inning and I always blow the lead, always.

I was at first but then I got too comfy with veteran. I was starting to rack up anywhere from 15-25 hits a game and score around 12 runs. Wasn't challenging enough anymore.
I have since switched to all-star and am getting some good games. My hitting is struggling a bit right now but my pitching has gotten better so I am able to hang in most games, giving me a chance to win in the later innings.
