But there's still too much offense from both sides. I'm having so much fun that I'm not sure if I should care about unrealistic stats, but it is starting to bother me a bit.

Instead of comparing my stats to real life, I figured it would be useful to compare how I do in the games I play compared to the simmed games.

Overall, I think my stats look really good compared to the simmed games -- kudos to you for that! I probably cost myself quite a few doubles in my first 10-15 games while I struggled to learn the new baserunning controls, so I think 2B-3B-HR are almost perfect. As you can see, the only problem is the high batting avg. After the first 22 games I played, I reduced User contact from 5 to 4. And strangely enough, I hit .323 in the 20 games since then, compared to .312 before. I guess this is probably just due to my skill improving.

The high user batting avg has been an ongoing problem for me with the MLB series since the very beginning. Its always been a little too easy for me to get singles up the middle. At this point I figure I'll drop User contact down to 2 or 3 and see if that helps. My K's are still pretty low so it seems like I have room to lower it (they increased from 5.00 to 5.40 after lowering contact from 5 to 4).

I would consider moving up to HoF, but my pitching is still getting destroyed, even after lowering CPU power from 7 to 6. I give up an avg of 5.90 runs per game, compared to 4.65 in simmed games. The biggest problem is HRs -- in simmed games, Tribe pitching has given up only 0.88 HRs/game, while my number is 1.55! On the bright side, over the last 10 games, I've only surrendered an avg of 4.40 runs & 1.20 HRs. Hopefully the trend continues. A bean ball after back-to-back HRs seems to help!

Travis Hafner is having an incredible year for me -- too bad it doesn't mirror real life. Through 119 games, he's at .341-32HR-104RBI. He leads the league in batting avg. In the last game I played in Cleveland, the fans were chanting "MVP". Losing 6-4 in the bottom of the 8th, Shoppach hits a 2-run blast to RCF to tie it up, and in the bottom of the 9th Hafner crushes a hanging change-up to RF for a walkoff 8-6 victory!
Yea, I know what you mean. I am a stat freak, but my OBP sucks in this game even with my tweaks and it bothers me. My batting average was the highest in the league and that was kind of offsetting the OBP sort of, but now I am around 5th in the league in hitting (hit a funk) and my OBP still sucks. But, whenever I try tweaking my sliders to fix BA or try other sliders, I can get better BA, but then the games aren't any damn fun and the CPU "cheese" gets to frustrating me too much and then I don't want to play anymore. I wish I could find that balance, but I think it is just the nature of the game this year and sliders can only go so far. So, at the end of the day, I just have to have fun contests and deal with the BA and OBP. My other stats fall pretty much fall in line for me.

it really changes the game and makes it seem alot more interesting then what i am used to. i think the hitting is really dumbed down and pretty easy, ill play a months worth of games to get a better idea though. there are so many walks and good hitting counts with these sliders, so anyone who is struggling to hit will definately like this.

what ive seen is the cpu pitch confidence being destroyed making what pitch or pitches to look for easier during clutch situations. what i do really like the most though is that im finally able to score runs from singles and doubles, where before my only RBI's came from homeruns. hits and runs are pretty high i think im seeing several games where both me and the cpu are scoring 8-10 runs.

i have mixed feelings about these sliders. i like what im seeing with runners in scoring position but with the absurdly high batting averages it seems like there is always someone in scoring position.
I would give it 15 games if you can, but these sliders aren't for everyone. If you are really good at hitting with the L stick, they probably aren't for you since I don't use the L stick much. You could also try them on a higher level and see how that works, but I haven't tried them on anything higher than All-Star.
I feel that CPU pitch confidence is waaaaaay overdone in this years game, and that is one of the things that these sliders address, but it can work the opposite way too much at times. Like I mentioned before, I hope that this is addressed in next years games. Even the best sliders aren't combating some of the issues many of us feel exist with the game this year (pitch confidence, lack of manufacturing of runs, relievers getting used to much without player edits like done by Knight and company, CPU scoring in bunches, a sometimes "scripted" feel to games like when the CPU jacks a waay low and outside pitch for a timely HR to come back or win the game, lol, fielding errors mostly from throwing only, CPU roster control ON not working, sketchy lineup logic, etc. etc.)

i gave these sliders a try just now, and i love them.

mainly because i SUCK at hitting. i mean i suck so bad that i only managed 4 hits with the rays against the padres . (AND im on veteran...i have only just got the game )

but it felt fair, and fun all the way. these are definitely tuned into my play style

once i improve i will tweak the sliders a bit more, but for now i like how the ai is playing and the intesity and difficulty is still there.

Weird as it sounds, I think the hitting on Veteran is harder, but the pitching is easier on veteran. I think its because the batting window is too big on veteran and you don't hit the sweet spot dead on like you do in All Star. Anyone else ever try veteran? Do you think hitting is harder on veteran? Pitching is definitely easier on veteran however.
I'm glad you found a good starting point. Sometimes I think arm accuracy could go up one or two notches. Anyone else have an opinion on this? Maybe its just a flaw in the game, but it seems like its not close enough at the plate very often. Maybe its just the teams I play with (Cubs, Red Sox, Twins)

They definitely level the playing field. Glad they are working out for you CommisionerHBK9! I am in the midst of another losing streak, and I just can't figure out why I am sucking now. I am sitting closer to the TV now, maybe that's the problem, I don't know, but I can't hit for crap lately.

I'm curious if this is true. That would work perfect for me, since I'm pretty good at hitting but stink at pitching (using Classic).

Even the best sliders aren't combating some of the issues many of us feel exist with the game this year (pitch confidence, lack of manufacturing of runs, relievers getting used to much without player edits like done by Knight and company, CPU scoring in bunches, a sometimes "scripted" feel to games like when the CPU jacks a waay low and outside pitch for a timely HR to come back or win the game, lol, fielding errors mostly from throwing only, CPU roster control ON not working, sketchy lineup logic, etc. etc.)
yeah i had a feeling if i give it more games i could get a better feel for the sliders. the cpu ai is adjusting pretty well and its giving me pitches i have hard time with, mostly curveballs in the dirt and some great changeups. also seeing more intentional walks, i guess they figured out when i have them beat at the plate.

everything seems to be playing pretty well now, i am seeing less walks but still a realistic amount. i say around 2-3 a game, when i first started using sliders it was easily 5-6 a game.

batting averages are evening out too. past couple of series i have been hitting around .280 - .290 as a team, which is still a little high but realistic average at the same time. i am really happy with the RBI's i have been seeing too.

i can hit pretty well even on hall of fame, however my pitching has only been about average to less then average for allstar difficulty, so thats the only thing keeping me back right now. however it seems to be only from my starters. my relievers have been pitching very well.

record wise im at .600 winning percentage and holding 2nd place in the NL east with the braves, im 9 games back from the mets, and 1 game behind the brewers and dbacks for the wildcard. so i feel its very realistic with the talent i have with the braves. i just traded Prado and a AA cf to the white sox for Kanerko and Betamit. it may not seem like a realistic trade, however i need to catch up to the mets

DrUrsus, you pretty much saved this game for me.I was about to shelve it, but decided to give it another go w/ your set.

These sliders really make a difference! I'm in a heated battle for first in the AL Central playing as the Tribe, and I'm starting a three game series with the Tigers, who are 1/2 game above me in first.

Game one, Verlander walked a total of 4 guys in the game. Last year, I was lucky to see one walk. CPU is also much more patient; I myself walked two guys in the game. Hits are still plentiful, however, but the scores seem more realistic. (I lost 3-1 )

Thanks and good job with these!!!

I tried these sliders and scored ten runs in the game. Then scored 13 in another. If you change the pitching to Physco then its much better.

Well at least you gave them a shot for 2 WHOLE GAMES! You can't judge sliders based on only 2 games (even Psycho will tell you that). Heck, I think its hard to judge them after 20 games. My very first game with these sliders I scored 10 runs. I also had a game where I hit 6 HRs & the CPU had 7. Big deal, its only a few games. These things average out over time. FYI, Psycho's & Dr.Ursus' sliders really aren't that much different, so I think you're overreacting without having a representative sample.

Re: DrUrsus All-Star Sliders to draw walks, be selective & CPU plays "fairer" game

Over the last 15 games my pitching has suddenly improved from dreadful to mediocre. At one point in the season I was giving up 1.55 HRs/game. Over the last 15, I've only given up 12 HRs, and I've got a streak of 5 straight games without giving up a homer!

What's even more amazing is that without the HRs, the CPU is manufacturing runs. In one recent game against the Orioles, I hit 3 HRs in the 3rd inning to take a 4-0 lead, but ended up losing 5-4 even though the O's didn't hit a single HR. They had a couple of key bloop singles. They scored 2 runs on sac flies, and took the lead on a suicide squeeze that I was completely unprepared for.

Also, maybe this is common knowledge, but I had no idea how much your SP energy is tied to confidence. Carl Pavano (who I pitch much better with than his ratings would indicate!) has a low stamina rating, and normally I can't go past 80 pitches before his energy bar is empty. But in a recent game after he gave up 4 runs in the first few innings, he calmed down and became nearly unhittable. As usual, after about 75-80 pitches, the green energy bar was down to a sliver. But his confidence bar was completely full. As long as his confidence was high, his energy never dropped to 0% -- even when I kept him in the game for 125 pitches!

I wasnt putting the sliders down. They are very good. It was way to easy to make contact. I was killing the ball. Not fun. Then I saw someone say try to pump up the pitching, I changed it to Physco;s pitching and boom. Harder to hit but you still hit.
